RESUMEN

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the leading threat to human health in China, and severe cognitive impairment often occurs in most T2DM patients. Although Sagacious Confucius' Pillow Elixir is a type of classical traditional Chinese medicine for cognitive impairment in clinic, the mechanism has not yet been completely defined. In this study, an experimental model of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was established by injecting Sprague Dawley (SD) rats with streptozocin (STZ), so as to compare the learning and memory ability, hippocampal neurons pathological changes, beta amyloid protein (A beta) content, degree of Tau protein phosphorylation, blood glucose and insulin level. The results showed that the Sagacious Confucius' Pillow Elixir could improve the learning and memory ability of STZ injected rats, reduce the level of A beta content both in hippocampus and serum, effectively reduce Tau protein phosphorylation degree, and also significantly alleviate hippocampal pathological injury, blood glucose, insulin and other basic indicators. The results showed that Sagacious Confucius' Pillow Elixir can alleviate the hippocampal pathological damage caused by STZ, and is expected to provide a theoretical basis for human T2DM patients in clinical adjuvant therapy.

RESUMEN

It is not only the problem of the real life, but also the challenge of the biomedical ethics for how to get the balance and compromise between the principlism and situationism. The fairness in Confucian is constructed on the basis of the external nature, and also is a standard and content-full ethical principle, which is different from the political one in the western culture. The Confucian basis is the principlism but does not refuse the situationism. In the four principles of Confucian, both fairness and respect for autonomy belong to the principlism, while the other two of knowing where to stop and no harm or the principle of benefit of utilitarianism are the basis of the situationism. The principle of knowing where to stop is the internal core spirit of the Confucian moral virtue and ethical principles, but fairness is the first principle of its all external principles.

RESUMEN

Professionalism was featured in this scientific journal the other day, and a paper on whether or not bushido, or Japanese chivalry, could serve as a model of professionalism required for Japanese physicians was published in it. Following this, the issue was also discussed in a paper written by Iwata. From my point of view, Japanese physicians should learn professionalism from Confucianism including the teachings of Confucius, the basis of Japanese chivalry, rather than bushido itself, as recommended in a paper written by Nishigori.

On the other hand, Sanpo-yoshi (benefits for all three sides), or a business philosophy, introduced by Nomura in his paper, is family profit-oriented and irrelevant to the above-mentioned "not-for-profit" professionalism. It has been said that "medicine is benevolent art" , and the basis of education on professionalism for Japanese physicians will be developed by learning about "benevolence" from the Analects of Confucius.

RESUMEN

In the traditional Chinese culture, the three major philosophical doctrines including Buddhism,Confucianism, and Taoism all contain different and significant views and recognitions towards life.Confucianism builds the morality origin by benevolence, takes a positive look at human existence, and stresses the harmony and balance in the complex relations among individual, family, society, nation, and the whole universe. In the basic bioethical orientation,Confucianism takes human as morality actioners, and the human world as morality community. All those ideas are not only precious bioethical values, but also significant revelations in modifying the direction of western bioethics. Therefore, the western research method of reason analysis can be applied in analyzing the Confucian morality orientation which cares life and sympathizes the weak, and addressing basic arguments in current Confucian bioethics.
