Introduction: Positive development is a stage of psychosocial adjustment that accentuates the potentials and resources of young people and their close contexts. The first positive development model for emerging adulthood was developed in Australia, which includes five components: social; life satisfaction; trust and tolerance of others; trust in the authorities and institutions; and action and civic engagement. However, this model has not been investigated in Chile. Objective: To analyze the evidence available in the scientific literature on the five components of the positive development model in emerging adults universities. Materials and methods: A narrative review of the literature published between 2013 and 2023 in the Web of Science, Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc, and Dialnet databases was conducted. Results: 83 articles were selected, of which 53 met the inclusion criteria; most of them were qualitative studies (81.13%) and in Spanish (75.47%). RESUMEN

Age-related neurological disorders (ANDs), including neurodegenerative diseases, are complex illnesses with an increasing risk with advancing years. The central nervous system's neuropathological conditions, including oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and protein misfolding, are what define ANDs. Due to the rise in age-dependent prevalence, efforts have been made to combat ANDs. Vitis viniferahas a long history of usageto treat a variety of illness symptoms. Because multiple ligand sites may be targeted, Vitis viniferacomponents can be employed to treat ANDs. This is demonstrated by the link between the structure and action of these compounds. This review demonstrates that Vitis viniferaand its constituents, including flavonoids, phenolic compounds, stilbenoidsandaromatic acids, are effective at reducing the neurological symptoms and pathological conditions of ANDs. This is done by acting as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. The active Vitis vinifera ingredients have therapeutic effects on ANDs, as this review explains.

The clinical changes of ulcerative colitis (UC) with the main syndrome of large intestine dampness-heat and the alterations of intestinal flora in UC were summarized to reveal the underlying mechanism. After review of the treatment methods for UC with the syndrome of large intestine dampness-heat, we identified the representative traditional Chinese medicines and compound prescriptions and explored the treatment mechanisms. Furthermore, we probed into the associations of UC and the treatment methods with the intestinal flora. The related articles were retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The available studies have shown that Akkermansia muciniphila, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus, and probiotics such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are closely associated with Chinese medicines in UC patients with the syndrome of large intestine dampness-heat. However, due to the shortcomings in clinical research and the susceptibility of intestinal flora to diverse factors, it is still challenging to accurately characterize the intestinal flora changes associated with diseases. Additionally, the research on the mechanisms of Chinese medicines in regulating intestinal flora in UC patients with the syndrome of large intestine dampness-heat remains to be improved. The feasibility of using Chinese medicines and compound prescriptions for precise regulation of intestinal flora in these patients is still debatable. In this regard, scientific issues such as the biological connotation of UC with the syndrome of large intestine dampness-heat and the correlation between syndrome and intestinal flora have become primary research tasks. Additionally, attention should also be paid to the interactions between the intestinal lumen exposure profile of Chinese medicines and intestinal flora. Finally, the thinking of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the concepts of modern medicine should be combined for the research on the formulation of TCM regimens for regulating intestinal flora in treating UC.

RESUMEN

Diabetic retinopathy(DR)represents the primary cause of blindness among the global working-age population, and the disruption of the blood-retinal barrier is a crucial factor. Research in recent years has elucidated that DR transcends the scope of a mere microvascular disorder into a complex interplay of retinal glial cells and neurodegeneration microvascular pathology. Neuronal damage may precede vascular endothelial changes in the retinal neurovascular unit(RNVU)in the early stage of DR, and glial cell activation further exacerbates vascular barrier dysfunction. Retinal microglia are immune cells that reside in the retina and are involved in chronic inflammatory responses induced by long-term exposure to high glucose levels. Microglia secrete various inflammatory factors in response to high glucose levels, which can lead to the destruction of the blood-retinal barrier structure, increased neuronal apoptosis, and altered gliosis of Muller cells, thus affecting the retina's homeostatic balance. The RNVU has received increasing attention in recent years as a unitary structural study, and the mechanism of microglia in the RNVU and the progress of the study are reviewed.

RESUMEN

@#Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Despite growing efforts for its early detection by screening populations at risk, the majority of lung cancer patients are still diagnosed in an advanced stage. In the last decade, the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been improved significantly. Emerging options of targeted therapies and immunotherapies have shifted the management of lung cancer to a more personalized treatment approach, significantly influencing the clinical course and outcome of the disease. At present, molecular biomarkers are becoming a powerful tool for diagnosing cancer, predicting treatment response outcomes, and assessing prognosis. In this review, we summarized the biomarkers relevant to the diagnosis, prediction, and prognosis of NSCLC as well as promising novel predictive biomarkers in the future.

RESUMEN

@#Since the advent of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), the selection of bypass conduits has always been one of the most controversial topics in this field. Arterial conduits have received extensive attention due to their excellent biological features and high patency. In recent years, the application of arterial grafting and total arterial grafting in China keeps increasing in recent years, but there is still a gap compared to the Europe and America. Previous clinical studies have indicated the benefits of the total arterial grafting in terms of patency and long-term outcomes, but the advantage of multiple arterial grafting over other procedures is still in need to be confirmed with high-quality randomized controlled trials. This article reviews the clinical application and strategy of total-arterial CABG, aiming to provide objective reference for future clinical research and application.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo review the characteristics of interbrain synchrony between individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and healthy individuals during interactions. MethodsResearches on interbrain synchrony during interactions in individuals with ASD were retrieved from databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and CNKI in November, 2023. Researches were screened and the relevant data were extracted. The quality of the methodology was evaluated using critical appraisal tool for analytic cross sectional study. ResultsFive researches were returned, publicated mainly from 2020 to 2023, including 130 individuals with ASD. Interbrain synchrony was lower during the interaction task in the individuals with ASD compared with the healthy, mainly involving the prefrontal and temporo-parietal joint regions; as well as the interbrain synchrony of theta, alpha and beta bands of electroencephalography. There was difference in interbrain synchrony between genders in individuals with ASD; furthermore, abnormal interbrain synchrony in individuals with ASD associated with social impairment. ConclusionInterbrain synchrony deficits may be a potential neural mechanism for social impairment in individuals with ASD, and the abnormalities mainly happen in the brain areas related with mirror nervous system and theories of mind network.

ObjectiveTo systematically review the health benefits of different physical activities for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy. MethodsCombined with MeSH terms and free words, randomized controlled trials regarding health and functional outcomes of physical activity intervention for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy published up to December, 2023 in databases of Web of Science, PubMed, EBSCO, Cochrane and CNKI were retrieved and systematically reviewed. ResultsTen randomized controlled trials were included, involving 402 participants (aged three to 24 years), with Physiotherapy Evidence Database Scale scores of six to eight, from Australia, the United States, Brazil and Netherlands, mainly in the fields of rehabilitation medicine, neuroscience, disability research and physiotherapy, with publication dates concentrated between 2013 and 2020. The physical activities included three types: fitness-related (physical fitness, skill-related fitness), motor skill-related (gross motor skills, fine motor skills) and adaptive physical activity-related (mobility skills, recreational types); 20 to 60 minutes a time, one to five times a week, for seven to 26 weeks; the intensity was moderate to high. Intervention settings involved community and home, schools and rehabilitation institutions. The guidance and support models included sports rehabilitation, adaptive physical activity, and a combined model of sports rehabilitation and adaptive physical activity. The health benefits were reflected in physical activity-related health behaviors, physical function, activities and participation, and quality of life, such as improving the level of physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior; enhancing muscle strength, improving cardiopulmonary function, cardiovascular function, body mass and aerobic capacity, increasing gait speed, joint mobility, balance function and muscle endurance; improving motor function (mobility, movement coordination ability, balance and postural control ability, gait function); improving self-care, promoting participation in family, school and social activities, increasing social performance behaviors, and improving mental health (self-confidence, emotions, self-worth, self-esteem). ConclusionThis study reviewed the health benefits of different physical activities for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy. There are three kinds of major physical activities: fitness-related, motor skill-related and adaptive physical activity-related. Physical fitness-related activities help to improve gait function, increase walking speed, enhance muscle strength, improve cardiovascular function, optimize body mass index; skill fitness-related activities can improve balance function. Gross motor skill-related activities can improve postural control ability and muscle endurance; fine motor skill-related activities can enhance the use of fine hands. Adaptive ball-related activities help to increase physical activity levels, increase leisure activity time, improve aerobic capacity, promote family activity participation and social activity participation; adaptive leisure-related activities can improve the quality of life and well-being, improve self-care, enhance self-worth, and increase life satisfaction.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo systematically review the intervention effect of cognitively engaging physical activity (CEPA) on executive function of children and adolescents. MethodsLiteratures in Chinese and English were retrieved from databases of Web of Science, PubMed, Medline, EBSCO and CNKI, from the establishment to November 30th, 2023. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the literatures that met the requirements were screened, and their quality was evaluated and systematically reviewed. ResultsA total of 15 literatures were included, published between 2014 and 2023, from eight countries, involving 1 806 subjects aged four to 16 years. The average score of PEDro scale was 6.6. The intensity of the CEPA intervention ranged from 64% to 93% HRmax, the duration of a single session ranged from ten to 60 minutes, and the frequency of the intervention was two to five sessions a week, for four to 24 weeks. Specific forms of CEPA included football, basketball and floorball combined with cognitive tasks; running, jumping, squatting, sitting, spinning and balancing combined with cognitive tasks; and exergaming combined with cognitive tasks. Eleven researches showed positive effects of CEPA intervention on at least one component of executive function. However, six of the seven researches involving working memory failed to verify the positive effects. Twelve researches compared the intervention effects of CEPA and rutine exercise or regular physical education classes, and nine researches found that CEPA was more effective on executive function. ConclusionThe CEPA is effective on the executive function of children and adolescents, specifically on cognitive flexibility; it shows inconsistent effects on inhibitory control, and its effect on working memory has not been verified. The intervention types of CEPA are divided into ball games combined with cognitive tasks, basic motor skills training combined with cognitive tasks, and exergaming combined with cognitive tasks.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo conduct a systematic review of the effect of active music therapy on cognitive function for older adults with cognitive impairment based on International Classification of Diseases, the 11th Revision (ICD-11), and International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). MethodsA PICO framework was constructed. Thematic keyword searches were conducted in databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang data, for literature on the effect of active music therapy on cognitive function for older adults with cognitive impairment, published up to November 5th, 2023. Information on authors, countries, publication date, sample characteristics, study designs, intervention methods, measurement tools and outcomes were extracted. The methodological quality of the researches was evaluated using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. ResultsEight researches from six countries were included, which were all randomized controlled trials involving 356 older adults with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. The articles were published from 2014 to 2020, with an average of 7.4 of the PEDro scale. Active music therapy was used by singing and playing instruments. Interventions took place in hospitals, nursing homes, and health centers. The intervention duration ranged from mostly 30 to 60 minutes a time, with a few 120 minutes a time. Interventions were implemented mostly one to three times a week, lasting from eight to twelve weeks. Health outcomes focused on cognitive function, including overall cognitive function, executive function, attention function and memory function. ConclusionA theoretical framework for the benefits of active music therapy on the cognitive function for older adults with cognitive impairment has been constructed based on ICD-11 and ICF. Active music therapy can improve overall cognitive function, executive function, attention function and memory function for older adults with cognitive impairment.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo review the effect of response interruption and redirection intervention on vocal stereotypy in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). MethodsLiteratures on response interruption and redirection intervention for vocal stereotypy in children with ASD were retrieved from databases of EBSCO, PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, and Wanfang data. The information of the literatures was extracted to conduct a scoping review. ResultsA total of 16 English literatures were included. All researches employed a single-subject time series study design. A total of 41 children with ASD were involved. Significant differences were found in levels of basic verbal functioning of children with ASD. Vocal stereotypy was characterized by both verbal and nonverbal forms. Most of the reviewed researches used experimental functional assessment to analyze the function of vocal stereotypy. In most cases, the function of vocal stereotypy was automatic reinforcement. Iwata et al.'s paradigm was dominantly adopted in performing experimental functional assessment across researches. Other related paradigms developed based on Iwata et al.'s paradigm to make operating process more concise were also used for experimental functional assessment in reviewed researches. Response disruption and redirection was often conducted in individualized setting, with a few researches conducted in special education classes. The time and frequency of interventions varied widely across subjects due to the levels of impairment in vocal stereotypy and other behaviors. According to a comparison of the effects of traditional response interruption and redirection and its morphing procedures, it was found that changing the content of the redirection task, reducing the number of redirection tasks, and varying the duration of execution did not impact the improvement of vocal stereotypy. Based on the comparisons of response interruption and redirection with matched stimuli, response cost, verbal manipulation training, and medication, it was found that both response interruption and redirection and other methods (except for medication) could reduce vocal stereotypy and promote the emergence of appropriate behaviors in children with ASD. Combining response interruption and redirection with other techniques, such as stimulus matching and response costs, yielded more favorable improvement of vocal stereotypy in children with ASD. ConclusionASD children with vocal stereotypy show different levels of functional language, and vocal stereotypy is generally characterized by both verbal and nonverbal formats. The function of vocal stereotypy is mostly automatic reinforcement. Response interruption and redirection as a behavioral intervention is mostly conducted in individualized setting, and the time and frequency of interventions depend on the levels of vocal stereotypy and other behaviors problems. Changing the content and number of redirection instructions does not significantly influence the improvement of vocal stereotypy in children with ASD. Other intervention methods such as matching stimulus and response cost are able to reduce vocal stereotypy in children with ASD, but response interruption and redirection used in conjunction with these methods show more favorable improvements. Response interruption and redirection interventions can not only reduce vocal stereotypy in children with ASD, but also increase appropriate vocalizations, task engagement and command obedience.
