RESUMEN

Background The converter stations of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines generate special total electric fields. At present, few investigations have been conducted on total electric fields in the workplace of converter stations from an perspective of occupational health. Objective To understand the current situation of total electric field strength in the workplace of converter stations. Methods Using purposive sampling, a calibrated HDEM-1 direct current (DC) total electric field strength measurement system was used to measure the total electric fields of 12 converter stations serving 6 DC lines in Southeast and Southwest China according to the Measurement method for total electric field strength and ion current density of the converter stations and DC transmission lines (DL/T 1089—2008). The results were evaluated according to occupational exposure limits recommended by The limits of electromagnetic environment at ±800 kV UHV DC converter station (DL/T 275—2012), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). Results A total of 615 check points were planned, the total electric field strength was 0.05-37.05 kV·m−1, and the median was 10.45 kV·m−1. The total electric field strength of 39 check points (6.3%) exceeded 25 kV·m−1 (the limits of ACGIH and ICNIRP), and the total electric field strength of 12 check points (2.0%) exceeded 30 kV·m−1 (the limit of DL/T 275—2012). There were statistically significant differences in the total electric field strength values and the proportions of exceeding 25 kV·m−1 between the neutral regions and the positive regions and between the neutral regions and the negative regions (P < 0.01). The proportion of total electric field strength exceeding 30 kV·m−1 in the negative regions was higher than that in the positive regions (P < 0.01). There were no significant differences in the total electric field strength of converter stations at different voltage levels and different altitudes (P > 0.05). There were no significant differences in the proportions of total electric field exceeding 25 kV·m−1 and exceeding 30 kV·m−1 in converter stations at different voltage levels and different altitudes (P > 0.05). Conclusion The total electric field in some workplace of converter stations exceeds selected limits. Converter station operators may be exposed to high-strength total electric field for a short time.

RESUMEN

Objective:To investigate the effect of pulsed electric field (PEF) combined with low temperature plasma (LTP) on mouse liver cancer cell.Methods:H22 mouse liver cancer cells were divided into liver cancer group, PEF treatment group, LTP treatment group, combined group A (first PEF treatment immediately after LTP treatment), combined group B (first LTP treatment immediately after PEF treatment), combined group C (same as combined group A, but 20 minutes interval) and combined group D (same as combined group B, but 20 minutes interval). Cell viability was detected by cell counting, apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry, intracellular reative oxygen species (ROS) was marked by fluorescence and counted. Twenty healthy female Kunming mouse aged 4-6 weeks without specific pathogens were subcutaneous injected with liver cancer cells, and then were randomly divided into model group, PBS control group, PEF experimental group, LTP experimental group and combined group (LTP+ PEF, no interval) ( n=4). Tumor relative volume and tumor inhibition rate were measured. Results:The survival rates were liver cancer cell group (98.3±0.9)%, PEF treatment group (66.8±4.4)%, LTP treatment group (62.1±3.9)%, combined group A (43.7±3.7)%, combined group B (31.0±1.4)%, combined group C (46.8±2.9)%, combined group D (39.0±2.3)%. Compared with liver cancer cell group, the cell survival rate of all treatment groups was decreased, and the cell survival rate of the four combined treatment group was lower than that of PEF treatment group and LTP treatment group, the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.05). The survival rate of combined B group was the lowest. The results of apoptosis detection were consistent with those of cell survival rate. Under fluorescence microscope, the ROS fluorescence of cells in the combined group B was significantly increased, and the ROS fluorescence of cells in the LTP treatment group was more than that in the PEF treatment group, and the percentage of ROS positive cells in the combined group B was higher than that in the LTP treatment group and the PEF treatment group, with statistical significance (all P<0.05). Tumor relative volume and tumor inhibition rate in the combined group were better than those in the PEF and LTP groups, and the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.05). Conclusion:LTP combined with PEF has a better killing effect on H22 cells than PEF or LTP treatment, which is expected to be a new tumor therapy.

RESUMEN

【Objective】 To explore the influencing factors of blood transfusion in burn patients during hospitalization, so as to provide references for the development of individualized blood transfusion strategies. 【Methods】 116 cases of flame burns and 46 cases of high-voltage burns from Jan 2015 to Jan 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The gender, age, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), burn surface area, burn depth, burn site, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative flow, number of operations, hospital stays, blood transfusion amount, whether complicated with inhalation injury, stress ulcer, amalgamative infection, hypertension, diabetes, cardio-related diseases, abnormal liver and kidney function and hypoalbuminemia in those two groups were statistically analyzed. 【Results】 During hospitalization, the mean blood volume of flame burn cases was (29.26±26.18)U, significantly higher than high-voltage burn cases as (13.26±10.32)U. The mean hemoglobin concentration (g/L) before blood transfusion of flame burn cases was (91.49±15.11)g/L, significantly higher than high-voltage burn cases as (81.70±14.49)g/L. There were statistically significant differences in gender, BMI, burn surface area, burn depth and burn site between flame burn cases and high-voltage burn cases (P<0.05). The average volume of blood transfusion during hospitalization was significantly affected by such factors as large burn area, trunk involvement, total intraoperative blood loss ≥2 000 mL, number of operations ≥6 times, hospital stay≥100 days, hypertension, cardio-related diseases, abnormal liver and kidney function, hypoproteinemia and so on (P<0.05), among which the total amount of intraoperative blood loss had the most significant effect on the flame burn patients (P<0.05), and the burn site had the most significant effect on the high voltage burn patients (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 Large burn area, deep burn depth, important organs and/or large blood vessels involvement, number of operations ≥6, and the total intraoperative blood loss ≥2 000 mL contribute to the increase of average volume of blood transfusion. The hypertension, cardio-related diseases, abnormal liver and kidney function, and hypoproteinemia were high risk factors for increased blood transfusion volume during hospitalization, which deserves great attention.

RESUMEN

High-voltage-activated (HVA) Ca channels are widely expressed in the nervous system. They play an important role in pain conduction by participating in various physiological processes such as synaptic transmission, changes in synaptic plasticity, and neuronal excitability. Available evidence suggests that the HVA channel is an important therapeutic target for pain management. In this review, we summarize the changes in different subtypes of HVA channel during pain and present the currently available evidence from the clinical application of HVA channel blockers. We also review novel drugs in various phases of development. Moreover, we discuss the future prospects of HVA channel blockers in order to promote "bench-to-bedside" translation.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Chronic inflammation can lower the seizure threshold and have influence on epileptogenesis. The components of red ginseng (RG) have anti-inflammatory effects. The abundance of peripherally derived immune cells in resected epileptic tissue suggests that the immune system is a potential target for anti-epileptogenic therapies. The present study used continuous electroencephalography (EEG) to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of RG in intrahippocampal kainic acid (IHKA) animal model of temporal lobe epilepsy.METHODS: Prolonged status epilepticus (SE) was induced in 7-week-old C57BL/6J mice via stereotaxic injection of kainic acid (KA, 150 nL; 1 mg/mL) into the right CA3/dorsal hippocampus. The animals were implanted electrodes and monitored for spontaneous seizures. Following the IHKA injections, one group received treatments of RG (250 mg/kg/day) for 4 weeks (RG group, n=7) while another group received valproic acid (VPA, 30 mg/kg/day) (VPA group, n=7). Laboratory findings and pathological results were assessed at D29 and continuous (24 h/week) EEG monitoring was used to evaluate high-voltage sharp waves on D7, D14, D21, and D28.RESULTS: At D29, there were no differences between the groups in liver function test but RG group had higher blood urea nitrogen levels. Immunohistochemistry analyses revealed that RG reduced the infiltration of immune cells into the brain and EEG analyses showed that it had anticonvulsant effects.CONCLUSION: Repeated treatments with RG after IHKA-induced SE decreased immune cell infiltration into the brain and resulted in a marked decrease in electrographic seizures. RG had anticonvulsant effects that were similar to those of VPA without serious side effects.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the influence of high-voltage electrical burn on the throm-bomodulin (TM), protein C (PC), protein S (PS) and D-Dimer (D-D) in SD rats. Methods One hundred and twenty healthy SD rats were divided into the fake high-voltage electrical burn groups (FHEB), high-voltage electrical burn groups (HEB) according to the random number table, with 60 rats in each group. Ten rats were taken from each group at 15 minutes before injury. Plasma were collected from heart blood. Fifty SD rats of HEB group with voltage regulator and experimental transformer. The remaining fifty SD rats of FHEB group were sham injured with the same devices without electric current. At 5 minutes and 1, 2, 4, 8 hour (s) post injury, 10 rats of every group were randomly chosen at each time point for observation of the concentrations of TM, PC, PS and D-D. Plasma were collected from heart blood. Data were processed with analysis of variance of factorial design and LSD test. Results Compared with the FHEB group, the concentration of TM from 5 minutes to 8 hours post injury in HEB group was higher significantly (P < 0.05). Exception of the concentrations of PC and PS at 15 minutes before injury, the concentrations of PC and PS were lower than those of FHEB group (P < 0.05). The concentration of D-D in HEB group peaked at 8 hours post injury in (173.05 ± 4.08) ng/mL. Conclusion High-voltage electrical burn at early stage can increase the concentrations of TM, D-D, as well as decrease the concentrations of PC and PS, which are not only causing the vascular endothelium damage but also possessing serious effect on the thromboplastin function of SD rats.

RESUMEN

Atrial fibrillation is amongst the various arrhythmias resulting after electrical injury but its incidence has been reported to be extremely rare. Here we are reporting a case of 35 years old lady presenting to our Emergency department with atrial fibrillation with fast ventricular rate after accidentally being injured by high voltage electrical current. She was managed successfully with pharmacological cardioversion followed by a period of observation. The rhythm reverted back to normal sinus rhythm on 3rd day. This approach of management is amongst one of the few published cases where patient was managed conservatively.

RESUMEN

Background: To investigate the effect of high-voltage alternating current (AC) electric field exposure on muscle extensibility. Methods: The study design was a crossover comparison. Fifteen healthy men were randomly divided into two groups. The interventions were exposure and no exposure to a high-voltage AC electric field (18 kV, 30 min). Subjects then performed bilateral self-stretching of the trapezius, hamstrings, and rectus femoris. Skin temperature, blood flow rate, blood pressure, heart rate, muscle rigidity, and muscle extensibility were measured before and after the intervention, and muscle rigidity and muscle extensibility were measured again after stretching. Skin temperature was measured bilaterally on the palms, shoulder girdle, anterior thigh, and dorsum of foot. Blood flow rate was measured in the right radial artery and dorsal artery of the foot. Muscle rigidity was measured bilaterally in the trapezius, rectus femoris, and biceps femoris. Muscle extensibility indices were determined for the left and right angle of lateral neck flexion, heel-buttock distance, straight leg raise angle, and sit-and-reach distance. Skin temperature, blood flow rate, blood pressure, and heart rate were compared between before and after the intervention, and muscle rigidity and muscle extensibility were compared before and after the intervention and after stretching. Results: A significant improvement was found in muscle extensibility in the intervention group but not in the controls. Muscle extensibility improvements due to stretching were noted regardless of electric field exposure, but the degree and percentage of change in muscle extensibility was significantly higher after stretching following electric field exposure. Electric field exposure had no effect on muscle rigidity or circulatory dynamics. Conclusions: Exposure to the high-voltage AC electric field appeared to increase muscle extensibility and heighten the effect of stretching. However, as the mechanism for improved muscle extensibility due to high-voltage AC electric field exposure was not clear, further study is necessary.
