Survey of blood levels of healthy Filipinos of all ages

A survey of 1662 subjects for blood sugar and 1695 subjects for non-protein nitrogen ranging in age from birth to 69 years is herein presented, using modified ultramicro methods. The Filipinos included in the study have a mean level of 91.0 mg glucose and 33.3 mg non-protein nitrogen per hundred milliliters of whole bloodThe amount of sugar in blood increases with age. However, the non-protein nitrogen values showed no appreciable variation from birth to adult age; nor was there any significant difference between the levels by sexPending completion of the studies on ethnic groups, no report can be made on their blood sugar and non-protein nitrogen. Parallel ultramicro and macro determinations of blood sugar

A modified ultramicro method for blood sugar determination, using locally available apparatus has been described. This method gives very close results to the macro method of Folin and Wu. The difference being insignificant, it may be concluded that the ultramicro method is just as good, if not better than the macro method of Folin and Wu. (Conclusion)
