Ocular findings in diabetes mellitus

Four hundred patients from the attendants of the diabetes clinic of Assiut Hospital were subjected to complete ophthalmological examination to find out the incidence of different ocular complications in insulin dependent diabetes IDD and non-insulin dependent diabetes NIDD and their relation to age, sex of the patient and duration of the diabetes. It was found that ocular complications were found in almost all the tissues of the eye

Paralysis of the third, fourth and sixth cranial nerves

One hundred and thirty four patients with 3rd, 4th and 6th cranial nerve palsy were analysed with respect, to distribution of nerve involvement, aetiology, age and sex, seventy four patients were males and 60 were females. Eighteen percent were due to diabetes mellitus. 13% to trauma, 10% to intracranial lesions and in about 40% the aetiology could not be detected
