RESUMO

To share our experience of the superiorly based nasolabial flap in the reconstruction of nasal ala. This experimental study was conducted at the Plastic Surgery and Burn Unit, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar from June 2011 to December 2013. A total of 56 patients underwent reconstruction of nasal ala after excision of malignant skin tumors. Superiorly based nasolabial flap was performed in all the patients who underwent tumor excision and required reconstruction of nasal ala. The flap was designed immediately lateral to the nasolabial fold. The flap then dissected, elevated and set into the defect. Out of 56 patients, 39 were males and 17 were female. Forty nine patients had basal carcinoma and 7 patients had squamous cell carcinoma. In all patients the flaps survived completely. Complications observed were scar hypertrophy in 3 patients, bulkier ala in two patients and partial dehiscence in 2 patients. In our experience nasolabial flap is a very reliable flap for the alar defects after tumor resection. Besides providing a good colour match, the flap is easy to dissect and inset

RESUMO

A total of 112 soil samples were taken from differents areas of district D.I.Khan and Kohat (KPK) Pakistan and screened for production of antibiotics against the Micrococcus luteus and Staphylococcus aureus. Widest zone of inhibition (18mm) was produced by microorganism isolated from saline soil. The strain was later identified as Bacillus GU057 by standard biochemical assays. Maximum activity (18mm inhibition zone) was observed against Staphylococcus aureus after 48 hours of incubation at pH 8 and 4% concentration of glucose. The antibiotic was identified by autobiography as bacitracin. The Bacillus strain GU057 was confirmed as good peptide antibiotic producer and can effectively be indulged as biocontrol agent.

RESUMO

Sealant Therapy is a preventive method which uses Sealant in order to control the primary carries in teeth. Sealant Therapy builds a physical barrier around a pit or fissure in order to protect them from the entrance of bacteria. Background: Pit and fissure lesions occur mostly i.e around 90%, in childhood and adolescence and if they are not prevented or treated, their incidence rate will increase. The only efficient preventive method is Sealant therapy. Sealant Therapy is used over the Occlusal surface of the permanent teeth. This method is mostly used in children with mental and physical retardation, learning and social problems. It is widely mentioned if sealant is kept for a long time, its anti-carries activity will also last for long. Aspa 2 which is a polymer of ionic cement has cariostatic effects and it is used in Sealant therapy for its high capacity of fluoride. Sealant therapy is used in mouth dryness, in patients who are treated with orthodontist, and in deep and irregular pits and fissures. However, it is not used in dental carries of proximal surfaces, in patients whose pit or fissure are treated spontaneously, in case of large or middle decays which may develop to interproximal carries in future, in superficial fissures and in case of uncontrolled moisture due to insufficient eruption. Recently, there has been publishes about the harms of Bisphenol A [BPA] in dental sealants which state's that its usage might develop the risk of cancer especially the breast cancer. Dental sealant has some special limitations. There is no certain information whether to use sealant in primary stages of carries or not. Some researches show that using it in primary stages of carries reduces the number of microorganisms, but it had some contradictory affects as well. Although the dental sheathe protects the teeth from carries, there are some religious sentences against it. However, it is better to use a highly trusty religious sentence in case a sealant is to be used for the protection of a normal tooth from a carries
