RESUMO

The aim of the present study was to investigate the beneficial effects of L-carnitine and taurine in healthy and alloxan induced diabetes mellitus in rats. Results showed that diabetic rats had significant increase in the levels of plasma glucose, malondialdehyde [MDA], urea, creatinine and the activity of serum asparate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase as compared to normal control rats. While, blood glutathione [GSH] content and erythrocyte superoxide dismutase [SOD] activity were significantly lowered. The elevated plasma glucose, MDA, AST, ALT, urea and creatinine levels of diabetic rats were significantly reduced by treatment for 6weeks with L-carnitine and taurine. In addition, normal healthy rats fed on the balanced diet plus L-carnitine and taurine showed significant increase in blood glutathione [GSH] content and erythrocyte superoxide dismutase [SOD] activity as compared with healthy control. It was concluded that dietary administration of L-carnitine and taurine reduces, delays or even prevent oxidative stress in diabetic rats

RESUMO

The Tatural herbs have biological activities that benefit in the treatment of many diseases which infect the human. The extracts of natural herbs were investigated for their Hyperglycemic, hyperlipidemic effects and Oxidative Status as well as histological - examination of pancreas section in normal and alloxane induced diabetic rats. The three tested herbal extracts [turmeric, ginseng and rosemary] at a dose of 300 mg/kg body weight were incorporated with the standard diet of diabetic rats. Hyperglycemia induced by alloxan cause strong increase level of glucose by [141.41%], as well as progressive decrease in plasma insulin level. Treatment with turmeric and ginseng herbal extracts in general seems to affect the physiological role of insulin, as it caused slight increase in plasma insulin level. Blood hemoglobin and liver glycogen content significantly decreased in diabetic rats, Treatment with turmeric and ginseng extract showed an improvement in their levels. The values of lipids profile were significantly increased in diabetic rats except HDL-C. A significant reduction in the lipid profile values occurred with the treatment of the three herbal extracts. With the respect to MDA and IRR ratio alloxan induced diabetic caused significant increase in their levels compared with healthy control. Treatment with turmeric, ginseng and rosemary extract reflected this increase. Also diabetic caused significant decrease in plasma vit. E; erythrocytes, SOD activity and liver GSH. Vitamin E value affected by the treatment of the herbal extracts. Histological examination of pancreas section in diabetic rats showed reduction in the number of islet cells and necrosis with many pyknotic nucli. Treatment of diabetic rats with the three herbal extracts caused Changes represented by increase of islet cells number?

RESUMO

The extracts of turmeric, ginseng and rosemary were investigated for their biochemical effects on liver and t kidney functions as well as histological examination of liver and kidney sections in normal and alloxane induced diabetic rats

Material and methods: the three tested herbal extracts at a dose of 300 mg/kg body weight were incorporated with the balanced diet of diabetic rats

Results: Hyperglycemia induced by alloxan caused a progressive increase in plasma urea and creatinine levels, diabetic rats were affected by the treatment with the three herbal extracts to show highly significant reduction in plasma urea levels by about 42.54%, 41.39% and 40.13% for turmeric, ginseng and rosemary extracts respectively as well as marked reduction in plasma creatinine. Alloxan induced diabetes caused highly significant decrease in the level of total proteins, albumin and A/G ratio, also caused significant increase in ALT, AST and ALP activities. The picture showed significant improvement by the treatment with the three herbal extract in diabetic rats. Also treatment with the extracts caused significant increase of the liver GST activity and did not affect the DNA content of diabetic rats. Histological examination of normal liver and kidney sections showed normal structures. Diabetic rats liver sections showed dilated and inflammation blood vessel, areas of fibrous tissue. Kidney sections of diabetic rats exhibited glomerulosclerosis with basal membrane thickening

Conclusion: treatment of diabetic rats with the three tested herbal extracts caused a moderate degree of recovery in both liver and kidney sections?

RESUMO

The effect of dietary corn oil, olive oil, celery oil and fish oil on healthy and hepatotoxic rats by cadmium chloride was studied. Forty eight adult male albino rats SpragueDawley strain of mean weight 119.71 +/- 8.54 g were divided into eight homogenous groups of which four healthy groups and four hepatotoxic groups by cadmium chloride [CdCl2]. All groups were fed on basal diet in combinations with 5% either corn oil, olive oil, celery oil and fish oil. After 28 days the results revealed that in hepatotoxic rats the highest value of haemoglobin was neticed in rats fed olive oil [10.41 +/- 1.12 g/dL], while the lowest value of haemoglobin was noticed in rats fed corn oil [4.09 +/- 0.69 g/dL]. The data illustrated a significant decrease in reduced gluathione [GSH], activity of supper oxide dismutase [SOD] and significant increase .the lipid peroxide [MDA] as compared with healthy rats [P < 0.05]. Also it is clear that in hepatotoxic rats the olive oil induced significant increase in [GSH], [SOD] and significant decrease in LDL-C, ALT activity as compared with other oils. It was concluded that, olive oil was found to be more effective than other oils in protecting against Cd toxicity
