RESUMO

One hundred and fifty rats were used in this study and divided into five equal groups [A, B, C, D and E] and a control group and each group was subdivided into three equal subgroups. From the results obtained it was concluded that with pneumoperitoneum, there is an evidence of gut ischemic and oxidative stress. Pneumoperitoneum for less than two hours at a pressure of 15 mmHg or less had no long lasting harmful effect. Pneumoperitoneum for more than three hours at a pressure of 15 mmHg or pneumoperitoneum for less than two hours and a pressure of more than 15 mmHg was harmful. These changes should be considered during laparoscopic surgery

RESUMO

The aim of study was to demonstrate the effect of this drug on the histological and histochemical structure of the intestinal mucosa after small intestinal resection. 60 albino rats weighting 250 +/- 50 g were divided into 3 groups, 20 for each. Group A animals were used as controls, while the animals of groups B, C were subjected to resection of 10 cm of the jejunum. The rats of group C were also subjected to postoperative injection with sandostatin [2 mug/kg s.c. bid] for 14 days. The animals were sacrificed 2 weeks after the operation, paraffin sections from the jejunum were processed and stained with Hx, E, PAS, Grimellus technique for neuroendocrine cells and Gomori's method for alkaline phosphatase. Jejunal sections of group B showed that the mean length and breadth of jejunal villi were significantly increased with hyperplasia of the covering epithelium and marked significant increase in goblet and neuroendocrine cell populations. The brush borders of absorptive cells was more prominent with marked increase of its alkaline phosphatase activity [these changes were statistically significant as compared with group A]. Jejunal sections of group C showed that all the previous results were reversed as compared with group B [statistically significant], but insignificantly changed as compared with group A

RESUMO

In this study, 10 patients with manifestations of severe hypoparathyroidism were treated with allograft transplantation of parathyroid tissue from unrelated donors. Prednisolone was given one day preoperatively and was maintained for two days after operation. In the first two weeks after transplantation, gradual elevation of the serum calcium level was noticed in most of the patients and it was maintained for a period of three months. From this study, it was shown that allotransplantation of the parathyroid gland is a very effective method to improve the symptoms and lessen the medications of patients with post thyroidectomy manifestations of hypoparathyroidism

RESUMO

This study was a retrospective analysis of seven patients with adrenal gland tumors. Patients with pheochromocytoma presented mainly with headache, persistent hypertension with paroxysmal severe attacks. Three patients with adrenal cortical adenoma presented mainly with trunkal obesity and mild hypertension, the remaining patient was a child with virilizing manifestations. Different methods of investigations were done that included estimation of catecholamines and cortisol levels in blood. Unilateral flank approach with resection of the last rib was done in all patients. The tumor was resected with the least possible manipulations after ligation of the adrenal vessels. Postoperative improvement was noticed in all patients where there was marked sustained reduction in blood pressure in cases of pheochromocytoma, and manifest reduction in body weight and blood pressure in patients with cortical adenoma showed marked amelioration of the virilizing features

RESUMO

Eight patients with primary hyperparathyroidism were surgically treated during the period from 1990-1992 inclusive in Endocrine surgery Unit of Mansoura University Hospital, Mansoura, Egypt In all patients, the clinical diagnosis was confirmed biochemically. Different method of investigations were performed and this included skeletal survey, ultrasonography and neck scanning patients were classified into two groups. Group I: Included six patients, the cause of primary hyperparathyroidism was hyperplasia.Total parathyroidectomy and auto transplantation in the forearm muscles marked by silver clips was done in four patients, the remaining two patients were subjected to removal of three and half of parathyroids and the remaining half was left in situ. Group II : Included two patients the cause of primary hyperparathyroidism was adenoma and they were subjected to surgical removal of the adenoma with biopsy of the remaining parathyroids in one patient. In all patient [group I and II], There was marked clinical improvement and serum calcium and P. T.H. returned to near normal levels postoperatively while hypocalcaemia was detected in one patient with resected adenoma to whom biopsy of the remaining parathyroids was done
