RESUMO

Background and Objective: Lovastatin is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor and used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase results in inhibiting the activity of the Ras proto-oncogene that has mutations in most cancers. This study was done to determine the Anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects of Lovastatin on K562 Erthromyloidy cancer cell line

Methods: The K562 Erthromyloidy cancer cell line were cultured and treated with different concentrations of lovastatin. Their antitumor effect on K562 cells were assessed via MTT assay after 72 hours. Hoechst [33342] staining and DNA electrophoresis were used for study of apoptosis

Results: Lovastatin had antitumor effect on K562 Erthromyloidy cancer cell line and this effect increased by incease of time and concentration. The maximum inhibitory effect was 59% in higher concentration [100 M] and 72 hours after the treatment. Reduced cell growth at 24 and 48 hours after treatment was 24% and 43%, respectively. Lovastatin significantly inhibited K562 cell growth [P<0.05]

Conclusion: This study showed that lovastatin has antitumor effect on K562 Erthromyloidy cancer cell line

RESUMO

Hyperbilirubinemia is a common neonatal abnormality. Severe hyperbilirubinemia is a risk factor for auditory system injury. Auditory brainstem responses [ABR] are important in early diagnosis of hearing impairments in healthy term infants with elevated bilirubin levels requiring exchange transfusion. During a two- year- period [2007 - 2009], in a prospective descriptive analytical study, in Tehran Milad Hospital, 64 [32 female, 32 male], healthy term [> 37 weeks] infants, who required treatment or were treated with phototherapy or received exchange transfusion for elevated bilirubin levels or jaundice, were studied. After obtaining a written consent from their parents, the infants were tested with auditory brain responses and results were analyzed using SPSS 16 software. No significant correlation was found between ABR and age, weight, bilirubin level or ABO blood group. Nineteen out of 64 infants received exchange transfusion. Three out of 19 infants [16%] exhibited abnormal ABR and 16 infants [84%] had normal ABR. There was no significant correlation between exchange transfusions and ABR [P>0.05]. The results pointed out that 14% of the infants with elevated bilirubin who required exchange transfusion had abnormal ABR. This indicates that elevated bilirubin levels even without inducing kernicterus should be considered as risk factors for hearing impairments. Further studies are needed on how long these tests may remain abnormal

RESUMO

Job burnout is a mental syndrome consisting of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization [negative and without any emotional reaction to clients] and reduction of efficiency feeling which makes people have negatives attitude to themselves, their job and others and jeopardize the peoples general health. The purpose of this research is to survey the relationship between job burnout and general health of Sistan and Baluchestan telecommunication central office personnel. This is a descriptive-analytical study with stratified random sampling. The sample number was 150. The data collection instrument was questionnaire including 22 job burnout questions and 28 Goldenberg general health questions [GHQ28]. Meaningful correlation was found between the subjects' job burnout and their general health. Also there was correction between emotional exhaustion, anxiety and sleep disorder with general health; depersonalization with general health, anxiety and sleep disorder with job burnout and finally between incompetent personality with social relationship disorder. Regading the obvious relationship between job burnout and general health, it is necessary for organization managers to perform schedules for improving motivation, job satisfaction, self accomplishment and human relationship
