RESUMO

Urinary immunoglobulins [IgG, IgAs and IgM] were studied in 30 children with urinary tract infection to detect the possibility of a defect in the local immune response among these children. The study showed that their urinary IgAs and IgG were significantly higher than in normal age mactched children, indicating that children with urinary tract infection react by increasing locally produced immunoglobulins in urine. Children with recurrent attacks showed lower level of IgG in urine which may denote a partial impairment in the local immune response. Urinary immunoglobulins were not found to vary significantly according to age, sex or symptomatology

RESUMO

The fasting blood glucose, the postprandial blood glucose and blood cortisol levels were estimated in twenty child before, two months after the use of cyproheptadine and on a third time two months after the cessation of the drug. No significant changes in blood glucose levels were noticed, but blood cortisol levels were significantly reduced with cyproheptadine, the pretreatment level was attained after cessation of the drug. During treatment, the children manifested increased appetite and noticable weight gain: A possible mechanism of action of cyproheptadine is discussed
