RESUMO

Uterine rupture during pregnancy after abdominal myomectomy is an uncommon complication. Most of these cases occur during the third trimester of pregnancy or during labor. We report a 16-week pregnant lady with previous history of abdominal myomectomy presenting with acute abdomen. Emergency laparotomy revealed a spontaneous uterine rupture. The fetus within the amniotic sac and the placenta were expelled in the abdominal cavity. Although it is rare, uterine rupture may occur early in pregnancy

RESUMO

Glanzmann's thrombasthenia is rare autosomal recessive platelet disorder caused by abnormal platelet glycoprotein complex [GP IIb-IIIa] leading to excessive mucosal bleeding. Patients with Glanzmann's thrombasthenia may present with hemorrhagic symptoms including mucosal bleeding, easy bruising and post-surgical bleeding. We report a 37-year old lady, who underwent a cesarean section at term. She received recombinant factor VIIa at the time of surgery. She had uneventful post operative period and she was discharged home in good general conditions

RESUMO

to assess the influence of the total motile sperm count on the pregnancy rate in-patients undergoing superovulation and intrauterine insemination [IUI]. Study design: retrospective study. University Affiliated IVF unit. one hundred and thirty one patients had 174 cycles of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with hMG and intrauterine insemination. Main outcome measure: pregnancy rate at each cut off level. Results the pregnancy rate was [15%]. The total motile sperm count inseminated did not influence the pregnancy rate. we could not identify either a higher or a lower limit of post wash total motile sperm count to define those couples that would be more or less likely to conceive with superovulation and IUI

RESUMO

to determine if saline wound irrigation before wound closure is helpful in preventing wound infection in patients undergoing cesarean section Study design: it is a prospective randomized controlled trial comparing two groups of patients: group I included 466 patients who had undergone cesarean section and had wound irrigation before wound closure and group II included 485 patient who had undergone cesarean section and who had no wound irrigation. Statistical analysis were performed using Mann- Whitney test and chi square test where appropriate there were no significant differences between both groups in the mean age, gravidity, parity, body mass index, type of surgery [elective or emergency], indication of cesarean section, type of incision used, type of skin suture used, using cautery, suturing subcutaneous tissue, duration of surgery and duration of hospitalization. Also there was no significant difference in the incidence of wound infection in both groups. saline wound irrigation before wound closure is not helpful in preventing wound infection in-patients undergoing cesarean section
