RESUMO

Twenty dental press fit titanium implants were installed in the lower jaws of ten completely edentulous patients. For each patient, two implants were installed in the canine region one in each side. The patients were divided into two groups, the patients of the first group received Mandibular over dentures with magnets attached by hard magnet bond. The second group received Mandibular over dentures with magnets attached by resilient magnet bond. Both groups were supplied with conventional maxillary complete dentures. All patients were evaluated clinically and radiographically immediately after denture insertion, after six months and after 12 months. The results showed that the group treated with hard magnet bond showed significant increase of gingival inflammation. The crevicular temperature showed statistical significant difference between both groups. There was no significant difference between both groups regarding plaque accumulation, pocket depth and marginal bone height

RESUMO

The effect of denture adhesive containing two different types of antimycotics [Nystatin and Miconazole] in treatment of denture stomatitis were evaluated and compared with the use of denture adhesive alone. Three groups of patients were evaluated, group one used denture adhesive containing Nystatin, group two used denture adhesive containing Miconazole, group three used denture adhesive alone [control group]. The patients were evaluated clinically and microbiologically at the beginning of the study, after one week, two weeks and four weeks. The results showed that the use of denture adhesive containing antimycotic is effective in inhibiting the candidal groups and improving the clinical condition of denture stomatitis patients

RESUMO

The effect of systemic administration of fluconazole and topical application of nystatin in conjunction with denture disinfection by glutaraldhyde on denture stomatitis was evaluated. Subjects with clinical evidence of denture stomatitis were selected and investigated clinically and mycologically. The subjects were divided into two groups, 18 patients each. The first group was given 50mg of fluconazole capsule daily for 2 weeks. The second group was instructed to sprinkle 140 mg nystatin powder on the fitting surface of the denture three times daily for two weeks. The dentures were soaked in glutaraldhyde disinfectant every night in both groups. It was found that systemic administration of fluconazole and topical application of nystatin are effective in treatment of denture stomatitis and reducing the candidal count. However, the cure rate of systemic fluconazole was higher than that of topical nystatin

RESUMO

Dimensional changes of three brands of irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials were evaluated immediately and after eight different periods of storage up to 96 hours at 100% relative humidity. The manufacturer of one of these brands [Kromopan] claims that the model can be cast within 100 hours with very good results if the impression is kept in a plastic envelope without any other addition. Stone casts were obtained after storage of the impressions for the different periods of time, then horizontal and vertical changes were measured by means of a micrometer. The results showed that the best dimensional accuracy and, the least dimensional change occurred at immediate pour followed by impressions stored for 1/2 hour. While 96-hour-storage time produced the highest dimensional change in all the impressions
