RESUMO

This discusses the role of computerized threshold perimetry detection of early glaucomatous filed defects. A glaucoma program was used in which the size of the test target was 2mm and the area tested included the central 300 and nasal periphery. In early glaucoma suspects computerized perimetry helped in estabilishing or rejecting a diagnosis of glaucoma

RESUMO

A prospective study was done on one-hundred [100] cases of extracapsular cataract surgery with posterior chamber intraocular senses. Two parameters were studied carefully in relation to intraocular lens [IOL] power selection: accuracy of postoperative anterior chamber depth [ACD] and changes in corneal power. Of these two parameters, changes in anterior chamber depth have far greater effect than changes in corneal power upon the accuracy intraocular lens power selection

RESUMO

In 22 eyes having open angle glaucoma and a visually significant cataract, a triple procedure combining ECCE, PC-IOL trabeculecomy was performed. Visual acuity improved in all cases. An IOP of 21 mmHg was achieved in all cases on no, fewer or same medications as preoperatively. The complications were minimal and needed no interference. The results suggest that the triple procedure gives very good IOP control and visual rehabilitation

RESUMO

Unreliable results of cross cylinder [C.C] testing, for refinment of astigmatism correction, was noticed when that cylinder was used as described in ophthalmological literatures. In this study the slit lamp microscope was used to dectect changes of clarity of images produced by flipping of C.C around a correcting cylinder and photographic documentation was obtained when needed. In addition, causes of errors were mathematically explained. It was found that it is not possible to obtain two equally blurred images at the test end point due to the anamorphic properties of the C.C, and the different behaviour of images clarity as the correcting cylinder is approaching the error axis. While image [2] got progressively clearer, image [1] reaching its maximum clarity at a certain of axis position and when the correcting cylinder was further moved towards the error axis this image started to get blurred. This position of maximum clarity is often taken by the patients as the end point and since its site is affected by direction of error axis and the degree of its correction as well as the power of the used C.C., unreliable detection of the true error axis is frequent

RESUMO

Twenty-five glaucomatous patients who had previous filtering surgery for more than six months were implanted with posterior chamber intracular lenses [PC - IOL]. Post-operative IOP measurements were not significantly changed from-pre- operative measurements although early transient rise in Top was seen, significant improvement in visual acuity was observed in all cases

RESUMO

Due to the many known complications of anterior chamber intra-ocular lenses, attention has shifted towards post-chamber intraocular lenses. A method of fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lenses in the absence of posterior capsular support in cases of secondary intraocular lens implantation in aphakic eyes and complicated extracapsular cataract extraction is discussed. The posterior chamber intraocular lens is placed in the ciliary sulcus and both haptics are sutured to the episclera opposite the ciliary sulcus

RESUMO

Fifty-five patients with uncomplicated mature senile cataract were subjected to planned extracapsular cataract extraction. This method of cataract extraction is now gaining popularity over the intracapsular method and the technique employed is discussed One of the advantages of extracapsular cataract extract extraction is the possibility of implanting a posterior chamber intraocular lens which is not possible with the intracapsular cataract extraction method. The twenty patients were all implanted with a modified J-loop posterior chamber intraocular lens

RESUMO

The incidence of diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients attending a general hospital was studied. It was found that older patients were at a higher risk of developing diabetic retinopathy shortly after the diabetes was discovered than younger patients. The incidence of diabetic retinopathy increased with the duration of the diabetes and increased in patients receiving insulin therapy compared with patients on oral hypoglycemia agents

RESUMO

Anterior chamber Intra-ocular lens implantation was performed after intracapsular cataract extraction in 60 eyes. The intra-ocular lenses were implanted as a primary procedure in 57 cases and as a secondary implant in 3 cases. Rigid lenses were implanted in 25 eyes and flexible lenses were implanted in 35 eyes. A comparison is made between rigid and flexible anterior chamber intra-ocular lenses and their complications

RESUMO

Computerized tomography was used in the study of sixty cases of proptosis. Axial and coronal scans were performed. Intravenous iodinated contrast medium was not given as a routine in orbital scans. Computerized tomography helped to define the aetiology of proptosis, whether of primary orbital origin or due to extension of a lesion from the neighbouring structures i.e. the nasal sinuses, nasopharynx or intracranial cavity or due to other causes as Grave's disease. An attempt to reach a pathological diagnosis was also made

RESUMO

Larcrimal scintigraphy is an atraumatic, simple and accurate method for the diagnosis of epiphora. In 44 patients complaining of epiphora, lacrimal scintigraphy was performed. The majority of patients were females [64%]. Twenty patients had bilateral epiphora and 24 patients had unilateral epiphora. In 50% of those patients having symptomatic epiphora in only one eye, to abnromality in the lacrimal drainage passages was found in the asymptomatic eye. The commonest site of obstruction was found to be in the canalicular region, then the lower end of the nasolacrimal duct followed by the upper end of the nasolacrimal duct
