RESUMO

Purpose@#The purpose of this study was to evaluate risk factors of pressure injuries in patients after neurosurgery. @*Methods@#A retrospective case-control study was conducted using 273 patients undergoing neurosurgery admitted to a general hospital from 2015 to 2021. Data were collected from September 1 to 30, 2021. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. @*Results@#Risk factors significantly influencing the occurrence of pressure injuries in the patients undergoing neurosurgery were hypertension (OR=3.12, p=.024), postoperative hypoalbuminemia (OR=0.30, p=.028), and prolonged operative duration (OR=1.00, p=.001). The regression model explained 86.0% of the variance of the outcome variable. @*Conclusion@#In order to prevent surgery-related pressure injuries in patients undergoing neurosurgery, thorough blood pressure management, avoidance of hypoalbuminemia, and preventive nursing intervention considering operative duration are required.

RESUMO

Mastitis is an inflammatory condition of the breast with common symptoms of pain, swelling, erythema, warmth, and fever. Diagnosis of mastitis is easily made on the basis of typical symptoms and ultrasonographic findings, such as diffusely increased echogenicity of the parenchyma and subcutaneous fat, or skin thickening. However, when it occurs in women middle-aged or older, associated malignancy should be considered. In our cases, we detected irregular hypoechoic malignant masses after the disappearance of inflammatory changes. Therefore, when non-puerperal women have inflammatory signs on their breast, follow-up imaging should be performed. In particular, in the case of persistent or growing palpability after the recovery of breast inflammation, percutaneous core biopsy and short-term follow-up with ultrasonography should be considered to exclude the associated malignancy.

RESUMO

Psychophysiological and functional neuroimaging studies have frequently and consistently shown that emotional information can be processed outside of the conscious awareness. Non-conscious processing comprises automatic, uncontrolled, and fast processing that occurs without subjective awareness. However, how such non-conscious emotional processing occurs in patients with various psychiatric disorders requires further examination. In this article, we reviewed and discussed previous studies on the non-conscious emotional processing in patients diagnosed with anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression, to further understand how non-conscious emotional processing varies across these psychiatric disorders. Although the symptom profile of each disorder does not often overlap with one another, these patients commonly show abnormal emotional processing based on the pathology of their mood and cognitive function. This indicates that the observed abnormalities of emotional processing in certain social interactions may derive from a biased mood or cognition process that precedes consciously controlled and voluntary processes. Since preconscious forms of emotional processing appear to have a major effect on behaviour and cognition in patients with these disorders, further investigation is required to understand these processes and their impact on patient pathology.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine nurses' sexual health care attitude and practice while caring for cancer patients. METHODS: Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 236 nurses caring for patients with cancer from June 30, 2014 to July 6, 2014 at a University Hospital in Daegu, Korea. RESULTS: The mean score for sexual health care attitude of nurses caring for patients with cancer was 27.75+/-6.45 of a possible range 17 to 51 and the mean score for a sexual health care practice of nurses was 3.67+/-3.30 of a possible range 0 to 21. The scores of a sexual health care attitude and practice were significantly different by age, education, department, experience in gynecology or urology departments, and position. Sexual health care attitude and practice had a significantly positive correlation (r=.16, p=.015). CONCLUSION: The nurses caring for patients with cancer recognize the importance of sexual health care, but their sexual health care practice rate was very low. Therefore specific and differentiated nurse education programs designed to increase sexual health care practice are required for young nurses and staff nurses that are not practicing sexual health care often.

RESUMO

Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma is a rare tumor, and it is similar to its ovarian counterpart, but it is without any evidence of ovarian, pancreatic or any other extra-retroperitoneal origin. The histogenesis of this neoplasm remains uncertain. Mucinous or colemic metaplasia of the retroperitoneal mesothelium has recently been proposed as its origin. A 39-year-old woman was diagnosed with a 13-cm cystic lesion in the left retroperitoneum; this was mucinous cystadenocarcinoma and no primary tumor was identified. We report here on a primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma that involved the splenic hilum, and we include a review of literature.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To Compare the conventional Pap smear with the Liquid Pap smear in screening of cervical cancer and to evaluate the correspondence of their biopsy results. METHODS: From August 1, 2003 to July 31, 2005, the conventional Pap smears and the Liquid Pap smears were performed in 12,757 and 6,870 women, respectively. The results of 252 conventional Pap smear and 227 Liquid Pap smear were confirmed by colposcopic biopsy and evaluated for sensitivity, specificity, positive predictability, negative predictability and false negativity. RESULTS: In Liquid Pap smear, there were higher proportions of ASCUS, LSIL, HSIL and CIS. And the ratio of ASCUS/LSIL were 3.32 and 3.04 in conventional Pap smear and Liquid Pap smear respectively. The conventional Pap smear showed sensitivity 71.8%, specificity 93.9%, positive predictability 82.3%, negative predictability 89.4%, and false negativity 28.2%, while the Liquid Pap smear showed higher sensitivity (72.6%), specificity (96.1%), and positive predictability (89.8%), and lower negative predictability (88.0%), and false negativity (27.4%). The positive predictability was significantly higher (95% C.I.: 1.3-13.7). CONCLUSION: The positive predictability was significantly improved in the Liquid Pap smear. Therefore, the Liquid Pap smear is a more useful method in screening of cervical cancer.

RESUMO

Sirenomelia is rare congenital malformation characterized by fusion of the lower extrimities associated anomalies included absence of urogenital system (bilateral renal agenesis, absent ureter, urinary bladder, absent internal and external genitalia), induced severe oligohydramnios, anorectal atresia, single umbilical artery, pulmonary hypoplasia. The incidence is 1:60000 births. Survival is extremely rare, and only possible, in the absence of bilateral renal agenesis. In view of the dismal prognosis, early diagnosis allows for earlier and less traumatic therapeutic abortion. We report a case of sirenomelia without oligohydramnios diagnosed in early second trimester.

RESUMO

Pulmonary artery sling with bridging bronchus is not only rare but also difficult to diagnose unless specially sought. When young infant suffers from prolonged or recurrent wheezing, possibility of underlying anomalies of the tracheobronchial trees or great vessels should be considered, even though bronchiolitis and gastroesophageal reflux are the most common causes. We experienced four cases of pulmonary artery sling with bridging bronchus who presented with dyspnea and recurrent wheezing since infancy. Diagnosis was made using bronchoscopy, three dimensional computed tomography, echocardiography and angiography. Bridging bronchus of three patients (case 1, 2, 3) correspond to type IIA and one patient (case 4) to type IIB by Wells classification. Bronchoscopic examinations on 3 patients showed segmental bronchomalacia and near complete obstruction of bronchus by the posterior left pulmonary artery. These congenital bronchial anormalies should be included in differential diagnosis in pediatric patients with unexplained persistent and recurrent wheezing, or emphysema of unknown etiology on plain chest X-ray.
