RESUMO

AIM: To compare the retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)thickness in Uyghur patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome(PEX)or pseudoexfoliative glaucoma(PEXG)and to provide a theoretical basis for the early diagnosis of PEXG.METHODS: A retrospective case-control study was conducted. A total of 70 cases(70 eyes)of Uyghur PEX patients, 80 cases(80 eyes)of PEXG patients, and 60 cases(60 eyes)of age-related cataract patients who were admitted to our hospital from April 2018 to June 2020 were selected as the PEX group, PEXG group, and CON group, respectively. The PEXG group was further divided into mild-to-moderate stage(56 eyes)and severe stage(24 eyes)based on the stage of visual field defect, and the RNFL thickness at different locations of the optic disc was analyzed.RESULTS: The mean defect(MD)gradually increased in the CON group, PEX group, and PEXG group, and it was significantly higher in PEXG group than that in the PEX group(P<0.01). The RNFL thickness at different locations of the optic disc in the PEX group, mild-to-moderate stage PEXG group, and severe-stage PEXG group was thinner than that in the CON group(all P<0.01). The mean RNFL thickness, as well as the RNFL thickness below and above the optic disc, were lower in the PEX group than in the CON group(all P<0.01). The RNFL thickness at all locations of the optic disc in the severe-stage PEXG group was significantly lower than that in the mild-to-moderate stage PEXG group(all P<0.01).CONCLUSION: The RNFL thickness in Uyghur patients with PEX begins to be thinner than those without pseudoexfoliation syndrome, and early detection of RNFL thickness in PEX patients is helpful for the diagnosis and early treatment of PEXG.

RESUMO

@#AIM: To investigate the impact of intravitreal conbercept injection on the aqueous humor levels of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), interleukin-6(IL-6)and interleukin-8(IL-8)in patients diagnosed with neovascular glaucoma(NVG), and to evaluate the efficacy of conbercept in combination with different surgical modalities.<p>METHODS: This study was conducted as a retrospective, case series investigation. A total of 102 patients(102 eyes)diagnosed with NVG from Jan. 2019 to Feb. 2020 were enrolled and randomized to trabeculectomy group(50 eyes of 50 cases)or EX-PRESS drain implantation group(52 eyes of 52 cases)3-5d after conbercept injections. The concentrations of VEGF, IL-6 and IL-8 in aqueous humor were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The therapeutic efficacies of different surgical modalities were evaluated and compared by status of iris neovascularization, changes in postoperative intraocular pressure(IOP), improvement of visual acuity and incidence of complications.<p>RESULTS:Decreases in aqueous humor concentrations of VEGF, IL-6 and IL-8 were observed at 3-5d after treatment of conbercept(all <i>P</i><0.05). At 1, 3d, 1, 3, 6 and 12mo after surgery, the IOP levels of patients in both groups were significantly reduced compared to those before surgery(all <i>P</i><0.05), and there was a statistically significant difference in IOP between the two groups at 3, 6, and 12mo postoperatively(all <i>P</i><0.05). At 6 and 12mo after surgery, patients treated with EX-PRESS drain implantation showed better visual acuity compared to patients treated with trabeculectomy(all <i>P</i><0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in types and dosages of anti-glaucoma drugs administered to patients in different groups. At 12mo follow-up, success rate of surgery in the EX-PRESS drain implantation group(86.5%)was higher than that in the trabeculectomy group(70.0%), along with remarkably lower incidence rate of complications compared to that of the trabeculectomy group(<i>P</i><0.05).<p>CONCLUSION: The intravitreal injection of conbercept could down-regulate aqueous humor concentrations of VEGF, IL-6 and IL-8. Both of trabeculectomy and EX-PRESS drain implantation could reduce IOP in NVG patients, but the latter procedure had fewer incidence of complications and was more advantageous in improving visual acuity.

RESUMO

Acute undifferentiated leukemia (AUL) is a clinically rare subtype of acute leukemia (AL). AUL lacks the serial specific antigen expressions, and the blasts have no morphological features of myeloid differentiation. Due to the rarity of AUL in clinic, there is no unified understanding of clinical and biological characteristics. It′s difficult to diagnose and choose the optimal treatment for AUL patients. And the prognosis of patients with AUL is poorer compared with other types of AL. Thanks to the big development of biotechnology in recent years, the related researchers have a better understanding of this rare disease. This article reviews the progress of diagnosis and treatment in AUL.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the expression of CD56 in multiple myeloma (MM) cells and its relationship between extramedullary disease and extramedullary relapse.@*METHODS@#Clinical data of 99 patients with MM treated in our hospital from January 2015 to December 2019 was retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into positive group and negative group according to the expression of CD56. The relationship between CD56 and multiple myeloma extramedullary disease, extramedullary relapse was analyzed.@*RESULTS@#Among 99 newly diagnosed patients with MM, the positive rate of CD56 was 65%, and the incidence of extramedullary disease of patients in the CD56 positive group was lower than that in the CD56 negative group (17.19% vs 48.57%) (P<0.01). Meanwhile, the incidence of extramedullary relapse of patients in the CD56 positive group was lower than that in the CD56 negative group (1.56% vs 34.29%) (P<0.01).@*CONCLUSION@#CD56 is highly expressed in MM, and its low expression is associated with the occurrence of extramedullary disease and extramedullary relapse, which suggests that CD56 may be an important indicator for predicting the occurrence of extramedullary disease and extramedullary relapse.

RESUMO

Renal interstitial fibrosis is the common pathway for a variety of chronic renal disease to final stage renal failure, the main feature of it is the large accumulation of extra cellular matrix (ECM).Myofibroblasts is the major effector cells which lead to the synthesis of ECM,an important source of myofibroblasts is epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT).Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway take part in the regulation of EMT,which make it become a potential site of anti-fibrosis therapy.

RESUMO

Abstract?AlM: To evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal injection with Ranibizumab combined with sub-Tenon injection with Triamcinolone acetonide ( TA ) for macular edema ( ME) due to central retinal venous occlusions ( CRVO) .?METHODS:Forty-six patients (46 eyes) were diagnosed ischemic CRVO with significant macular edema by fundus fluorescence-angiography ( FFA ) and optical coherence tomography ( OCT ) . All the patients had panretinal photocoagulation ( PRP ) , a week after the four times therapies. Twenty-three patients ( 23 eyes ) in group A were randomly chosen to receive intravitreal injection with ranibizumab ( lVR ) , another 23 patients ( 23 eyes ) in group B to treat with both lVR and sub-Tenon injection with TA ( PSTT ) . There was no significant difference on macular edema and best corrected visual activity ( BCVA) between the two groups. The changes in BCVA and central macular thickness ( CMT) before and 1wk; 1, 3, 6mo after treatments were analyzed.?RESULTS: One week after the treatment: the BCVA increased while the CMT decreased compared with that of pretreatment in groups A and B (P0. 05).?CONCLUSlON:Not only lVR can decrease ME caused by CRVO and increase the BCVA, but also lVR combined with PSTT can. But combined therapies can be more rapidly and have more positive effect on decreasing the ME and protecting the visual function.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the role of eNOS/NO signaling pathway in peritubular capillary lesions of mouse renal interstitial fibrosis with unilateral ureteral obstruction ( UUC) and the potential mechanism .Methods Sixty-four healthy male KM mice were randomly divided into sham operated group ( n=32 ) and unilateral ureteral obstruction group (n =32).At each week, serum BUN, Scr and NO were determined and the percentages of CD 133 +/VEGFR+en-dothelial progenitor cells in peripheral blood mononuclear cells were detected by flow cytometry .Morphological changes of the renal tissue were observed using Masson staining .The expression of CD34 +cells in the renal interstitium was analyzed by immunohistochemistry to calculate the peritubular capillary density .The expressions of eNos and VEGF mRNA were de-termined by real-time PCR.Results The expression of blood NO , the percentages of endothelial progenitor cells , peritu-bular capillaries, eNOS mRNA, and VEGF mRNA in the UUO group were significantly decreased compared with those of the sham group at 2, 3, and 4 weeks (P<0.05).NO was positively correlated with peritubular capillaries (r =0.715, P<0.05), eNOS mRNA was positively correlated with peritubular capillaries (r =0.624, P<0.05), endothelial progeni-tor cells (r =0.375, P<0.05), and VEGF mRNA (r =0.351, P<0.05).Conclusions eNOS/NO signaling path-way participates in regulation of peritubular capillary lesions in renal interstitial fibrosis of UUO mice .The mechanism may be partly related to the regulation of vasomotor reflex , the expression of VEGF mRNA and mobilization of endothelial pro-genitor cells.
