RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between Y chromosome microdeletions and human spermatogenesis in infertile men with varicocele (VC).

METHODSWe divided 174 infertile VC patients into groups A (with azoospermia, n = 47) , B (with severe oligozoospermia, n=57) and C (with mild oligozoospermia, n=70), and enlisted 28 fertile males and 26 fertile females as normal controls. We collected DNA from the peripheral blood, amplified 6 sequence tagged sites in AZFa, AZFb and AZFc using multiplex PCR technique. Then we separated and scanned the amplified products by agarose gel electrophoresis to identify microdeletions and their types in comparison with the controls.

RESULTSY chromosome microdeletions were observed in 12.64% of the patients (22/174), 11 cases in group A and the other 11 in group B, but none in group C and the normal controls. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). In group A, 6 of the microdeletion cases were in the AZFc region, 1 in the AZFa region, 2 in the AZFb region and 2 in both AZFb and AZFc regions, while in group B, 8 cases were in the AZFc region, 2 in the AZFb region and 1 in both AZFb and AZFc regions.

CONCLUSIONInfertility is correlated to Y chromosome microdeletions in VC patients. Y chromosome microdeletion screening should be performed for infertile VC patients, especially for those with azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of preoperative transcatherter arterial chemo-embolization (TACE) on the cell proliferation in Wilms; tumor.

METHODSForty-one cases of Wilms; tumor diagnosed by histopathology were divided into two groups: in TACE group, 23 patients received TACE first and were operated 2 weeks later; in control group, 18 patients were operated alone. A comparative analysis of the pathological finding was made in two groups, and the expression of PCNA and VEGF in tumor tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry.

RESULTThe degeneration of tumor tissue such as tumor cell necrotic, broken, disappearance occurred in 17 cases of TACE group and in 4 cases of control group, respectively (P <0.01). The expression of PCNA in TACE group and in control group was 1/23 (4.3 %) and 9/18(50.0 %), respectively (P <0.01). VEGF was expressed in 7/23 (30.4 %) of TACE group and 9/18 (50.0 %) of control group (P=0.283).

CONCLUSIONTACE can significantly inhibit proliferation and enhance degeneration of Wilms; tumor cells.

RESUMO

Objective To study effects of fluid resuscitation on thoracoabdominal injury combined with hemorrhagic traumatic shock.Method A total of 98 patients, who were treated in Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University from November 2004 to December 2006,were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were diagnozed according to Surgery(fifth edition).Patients were divided into delayed fluid resuscitation group(n= 51)and immediate fluid resuscitation group(n=47).Patients in delayed fluid resuscitation group were given with balanced salt solution for the body to maintain basic requirements.Patients in immediate fluid resuscitation group were rapidly administered with a lot of isotonic crystaUoid and(or)colloid solution after admission. Hemoglobin, platelet count, hematocrit, blood lactic acid, basedeficit, preoperative resuscitation time and mortality were compared between the two groups.Paired t test and variance analysis or x~2 test were used. Results The transfusion fluid volume of delayed group and immediate group was(1586?346)ml,(3520?575)ml, respectively, with P value
