RESUMO

In order to promote the standardization of traditional medicines in Laos, China and Laos jointly formed a census team to conduct resource survey, market survey, species identification and others of medicinal plants in Laos. According to the principles of nationality, tradition, effectiveness and commonness, 160 medicinal materials and 40 prescriptions were selected and collected into Lao Herbal Pharmacopoeia after recommendation, examination of experts and review by the established expert committee. Moreover, quality standards of traditional medicine and scientific and clear translation methods were formulated in line with the national conditions of Laos, and the contents were finally compiled according to the 2010 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The promulgation and implementation of Lao Herbal Pharmacopoeia is a successful example of cooperation in the field of health care between China and Laos, which is conducive to promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries in the field of traditional medicine, and making traditional medicine play a greater role in the medical and health services of ASEAN countries.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the chemical constituents of Dasymaschalon trichophorum Mer. METHODS: The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and recrystallization. Their structures were elucidated by spectral analysis and physicochemical properties. RESULTS: Ten compounds were obtained from petroleum ether fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and chloroform fraction of water extraction of Dasymaschalon trichophorum Mer. They were identified as 5-methoxydasytrichone(1), (2R, 3R)-3, 5, 7, 3', 4'-pentahydroxyflavane(2), dasytrichone(3), 3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenol-β-D-glucopyranoside(4), N-trans-caffeoyltyramine(5), 1', 4-dihydroxy-3, 3', 5'-trimethoxy-8, 4'-oxyneoligna-7, 9-diol(6), resveratrol(7), naringetol(8), dihydrokaempferol(9) and eriodictyol(10). CONCLUSION: Compounds 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are isolated from Dasymaschalon trichophorum Mer for the first time.

RESUMO

Endophytic fungi played an important role in the growth of its host plant. To investigate the mycorrhizal characteristics and the distribution of fungi in the root, an endangered wild plant-Dysosma versipellis was collected and observed by electron microscope. The results showed that the host was closely associated with endophytic fungi. The fungi were mainly distributed in the epidermis and cortex. The aseptate and septate fungi with swollen hyphae were observed in some cell of the cortex. The result provides a reference for the study of mycorrhizal structure of Dysosma genus and the interaction between the fungi and its host.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo explore the relationship between the polymorphisms of DNA repair gene XRCC1 and susceptibility to pulmonary cancer.

METHODSA case-control study of 209 lung cancer patients and 256 control subjects was conducted to investigate the role of XRCC1 gene in lung cancer. Genotyping was performed using PCR based restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique.

RESULTSThe frequency (19.1%) of XRCC1-194 Trp/Trp in case group was significantly higher than that (10.9%) in control group (P < 0.05), OR for lung cancer was 2.215 (95% CI: 1.276-3.845). The frequency (6.7%) of XRCC1-280 His/His in case group was significantly higher than that (4.3%) in control group (P < 0.05), OR for lung cancer was 2.46 (95% CI: 1.141-5.304). There was no significant difference for XRCC1-399 Gln/Gln genotype between the two groups. Interaction analysis of gene polymorphisms and environment factors indicated that there was interactions between XRCC1-194 Trp/Trp and XRCC1-280 His/His genotypes and smoking. The risks of lung cancer in smokers with XRCC1-194 Arg/Trp+Trp/Trp and XRCC1-280 His/His+Arg/His were 4.889 (95% CI: 2.828-8.452) and 6.281(95% CI: 3.572-11.046), respectively.

CONCLUSIONThese findings supported the hypothesis that the interaction of polymorphisms of XRCC1-194 Trp/Trp, XRCC1-280 His/His with smoking resulted in the increased risk of lung cancer, and the polymorphisms of XRCC and smoking could play an role in development of lung cancer.

RESUMO

Objective To provide evidence-based recommendations to the government on strategies for reducing the impact of the imminent influenza pandemic, we conducted a survey on the personal protective and healthcare seeking behaviors of Beijing residents in the wake of the worldwide epidemic of the novel 2009 H1N1 influenza virus, and potential changes in these behaviors during a full-blown pandemic. Methods We used a two-stage Mitofsky-Waksberg telephone survey to collect information for Beijing residents ≥ 18 years of age and weighted the sample by the census estimate of Beijing population for 2008. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information about the respondents' knowledge regarding the novel influenza virus, current personal protective and healthcare seeking behaviors during a full-blown influenza pandemic. Results 286 Beijing urban residents were interviewed during May 15 to 18 (response rate: 62%). 77%(95%CI: 71%-82%) of the residents that they would cover their sneezes at home, and 93%(95%CI: 89%-96%) would do so in a public place. Of the residents would cover their sneezes at home, 66% (95%CI: 57%-74%) would covered their sneezes by hand, 33% (95%CI:25%-42%) by facial tissue, and only 0.4% (95%CI: 0.1%-2.9%) by sleeves. Similarly, of the residents would cover their sneezes at a public place, 64% (95%CI: 56%-71%) would cover their sneezes by hand, 33%(95%CI: 26%-41%) by facial tissue and 0% by sleeves. 46% (95% CI: 32%-59%) of the residents would wash their hands after covering their sneezes with hand in public places, and 77% (95%CI: 64%-89%) would do so at home. Higher percentages of residents would wear a mask (63%, 95% CI: 56%-70%) and get vaccinated (43%, 95% CI: 37%-50%) during a pandemic than under currently situation (3.5%, 95% CI: 1.7%-7.0% for wearing a mask; 13%, 95% CI: 9.8%-18% for getting vaccinated). 86% (95% CI: 81%-89%) of the residents would visit a doctor for an influenza-like illness during a pandemic, similar to the percentage currently seen (76%, 95%CI: 70%-81%). 71%(95%CI: 63%-78%) of the residents would visit a doctor for influenza-like illness and would choose a tertiary medical center; with percentage (74% , 95% CI: 66%-80%) similar to the one during a pandemic. Conclusion Beijing residents need to be aware of the proper ways to cover their noses when sneezing (especially using their sleeves more), and to wash their hands. An effective plan to triage patients should be immediately established to efficiently utilize the limited healthcare resources, which would likely be further strained during a pandemic.
