RESUMO

In order to improve the metabolic activities, the immobilization technique was adapted using Ca-alginate as an entrapping gel and a 3% gel concentration was found to be the most adequate gel level to attain higher metabolic activities by immobilized culture of S. cerevisiae Y-1347 upon using static flask cultures. The entrapped culture could be repeatedly used in batch-wise fermentation successfully for at least 3 times as suspended in distilled water

RESUMO

Batch cultures of Bacillus cereus grew most luxuriantly with 3% glucose [w/v], 2% tryptone, 0.5% K2HSO4 and 1 mg/ml MnCl2H2O, supplemented to the basal medium with high enzyme activity [biomass 3.06 g/100 ml and enzyme activity 57.19 U/ml, with specific activity 39.44 U/mg protein]. All the tested nitrogen sources, ascorbic acid, ATP, chloramphenicol and vitamins exerted a significant decrease in the enzyme production

RESUMO

Production of glycerol by S. cerevisiae y-1347 through the fermentation of holocellulose by T. viride was studied. The accumulation and the yield of glycerol was dependent on the holocellulose level, pH control, nitrogen source and its level. The addition of trace elements during the fermentation resulted in a decrease in production of glycerol

RESUMO

Calcium alginate as an entrapping gel at a 2% concentration attains higher bioconversion activities and glycerol yields [700 mg%] by immobilized mixed cultures of T. viride and S. cervisae y-1347. the entrapped mixed cultures could be repeatedly used in batch wise bioconversion successfully for at least six times as suspended in diluted nutrient medium. However, entrapped mixed cultures could be reused three times only when suspended in distilled water and must then be reactivated in nutrient medium to be reused
