RESUMO

Marijuana may be smoked, braided as a tea, or consumed in foods such as brownies and chocolate bars. Many people treat chronic pain, muscle spasm, anorexia, pneumonia and sleep disorders with medical marijuana. Medical marijuana means whole marijuana or its ingredients, on which a few licensed drugs are based, such as cannabidiol (CBD). The government does not standardize medical marijuana and does not recognize its strength and ingredients. Not legal in any state. We wanted to assess the existing knowledge regarding hazards of ganja and prevention among male adolescents in selected senior secondary school to evaluate effectiveness of planned teaching regarding hazards of ganja and prevention among male adolescent in selected senior secondary school. MethodsThis is a pre-test and post-test study based on evaluative approach. The sample was 60 senior secondary school male adolescents from a selected senior secondary school in Sawangi, Wardha. Self-administered questionnaire having 30 MCQs was given to the study participants. The correct answer got score 1 and wrong score got 0 score. ResultsThe mean score of posttest knowledge 16.80 was apparently higher than the mean score of pre-test knowledge 7.45. There was significant difference between the mean pre-test and post-test knowledge score (t = 22.024, p = 0.095) at p<0.05 level and no significant association was found between selected demographic variables. ConclusionsPlanned teaching was highly effective in enhancing the knowledge regarding hazards of ganja, and its prevention among male adolescents in the selected senior secondary school.

RESUMO

Fertility preservation is a hotspot of research in reproductive medicine, and that of male adolescent cancer patients is drawing even more attention from reproductive and oncologic clinicians. Both cancer and its treatment can decrease semen quality and even induce irreversible damage to fertility. Sperm cryopreservation is an effective method for fertility preservation. In the past few years, marked advances have been made in the cryopreservation, transplantation, and in vitro culture of testis tissue and stem spermatogonial cells. Although still experimental, these approaches may offer some options to those with no mature sperm in the testis. Unfortunately, very few people know and participate in the studies of fertility preservation and the utilization rate of cryopreserved sperm remains low. Therefor reproductive physicians and oncologists are required to make more efforts to search for effective fertility preservation methods for male adolescent cancer patients.

RESUMO

Objective To study the relationship between self-esteem and childhood abuse, life events among male violent adolescent. Methods According to the modified overt aggression scale, juvenile delinquents were divided into violent group (n = 128 )and nonviolent group (n = 118 ). All the participants were investigated by Self-Esteem Scale (SES), Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-28 Item Short Form (CTQ-SF) and Adolescent SelfRating Life Events (ASLEC) and conducted correlation and regression analysis. Results ①Violent group had lower self-esteem scores ( 22.73 ± 3.30 ) than the nonviolent group ( 23.81 ± 3.30, P < 0.05 ). Violent group had higher scores in physical abuse, sexual abuse, total life events, interpersonal relationship, punishment, and other (8.30 ±4.07, 7.23 ±2.26, 54.48 ±18.60, 10.09 ±3.84, 14.43 ±5.87, 4.93 ±3.15, 9.93 ±3.64), compared to the nonviolent group (7.27 ± 3.27, 6.60 ± 2.09, 45.40 ± 18.45, 8.42 ± 4.13, 11.07 ± 5.75, 3.66 ±2.81, 7.84 ±3.66, P<0. 05). ②The self-esteem was significantly negative correlated with the childhood abuse and life events( r= -0. 143 ~ -0. 358, P< 0.01 ) among violent male adolescents. ③The physical abuse and punishment had significant prediction function of 15.6% on self-esteem. Conclusions Violent adolescents have low self-esteem, which is closely related to childhood abuse and adolescent life events.

This quantitative study aimed to investigate the onset of sexual activity in male adolescents from Concordia, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The studied sample consisted of a total of 340 14-19-year-old male adolescents attending secondary school in six local educational institutions, who accepted to answer the questionnaire and whose parents signed the Free and Informed Consent. From these, 69,7 percent affirmed that they already had sexual relations; the mean age at the first relation was 14,4, lower than national average of 15 years. The first sexual relation occurred with a date in the case of 45,1 percent and 64,2 percent affirmed that the main reason was sexual desire/excitation. Most of adolescents (74,2 percent) qualified the experience as good or very good. The condom was used in the first sexual relation by 73,8 percent and in all relations by 72,5 percent. Some adolescents do not talk about sexuality, but most of them indicate friends as the main source of information about sex. These data show the effectiveness of the dialogue about STD/AIDS prevention and contraception developed over the last decades, expressed by the considerable condom use among the adolescents.

RESUMO

This study was performed to identify nutritional status and eating behaviors of underweight male adolescents aged 15 to 19 years. The subjects selected by using the data of KNHANS-2001 were 32 underweight boys and 135 normalweight ones. We found that weight, waist and hip circumference of the underweight group were significantly different to normal-weight group, but height and waist-hip ratio were not. Their serum indices belonged within normal ranges and showed no difference between the two groups. Their energy and nutrient intakes were mostly poor. The level and proportion of the subjects below EAR, NAR and INQ of each nutrient were not significantly different between the two groups. There were no difference of frequencies of skipping meals, snacking and eating-out between the two groups, either. When comparing frequencies of food intakes, the underweight group consumed significantly more of fermented fishes and less milk than the normal-weight group. And the former had significantly more rest/sleep, nodoes and supplementation and less regular excercise than the latter. The underweight group perceived more correct self-images than the normal-weight group and they tried more to increase their body weight during weight control practice (p < 0.001). It was concluded that the underweight group showed no different biochemical indices, nutrient intakes, and dietary behaviors to the normal-weight group, but they revealed significantly higher non-active activities like rest and supplementations.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Among chemical and non-chemical dependence, internet addiction is one of the most frequent addictive behavior in adolescent. This study was performed to detect certain temperamental and genetic characteristics in adolescent with internet addiction tendency. METHODS: 87 adolescents with internet addiction tendency (AIT) and 78 adolescents without internet addiction tendency (NAIT) were classified by Young's Internet Addiction Test. Cloninger's Temperament Character Inventory and 6 candidate genes of drug addiction (DRD2 TaqI A, DRD4, DAT1, 5-HTTLPR, NET-8, and COMT) polymorphisms were tested between two groups. RESULTS: Novelty Seeking scores (p=0.001) and Harm Avoidance scores (p=0.042) were significantly higher in AIT. The frequency of DRD2-A1/A1 genotype and G allele of NET-8 in AIT was higher than that in NAIT. In AIT, Novelty Seeking scores were significantly different (p=0.011) according to NET-8 genotypes (G/G>G/A>A/A). CONCLUSION: These data suggest that male adolescents with internet addiction tendency have the specific temperament and genetic polymorphisms like chemical dependence.

RESUMO

The study evaluated the effectiveness of intervention for male adolescent smokers by making an assessment in terms of changes in food habits, nutrition knowledge, plasma catalase, superoxide dismutase(SOD), glutathione peroxidase peroxidase(GSH-px) activities and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance(TBARS) after Vit C supplementation and nutrition education. The subjects, male adolescent smokers, were assigned into four groups : Control group(19 students), education(Educ.) group(19 students), Vit C supplementation (suppl) group(19 students), and Educ. + Vit C suppl. group(19 students). The Educ. group and Educ. + Vit C suppl. group received nutrition education once a week for 2 weeks. The Vit C suppl. group Educ. + Vit C suppl. group received 500 mg ascorbic acid for 35 days. All data were collected before intervention and after intervention. Nutrition knowledge of those who received education increased, and the frequency of fruit and yellow-green vegetable consumption also increased. Plasma antioxidant enzyme activities were not different except for the SOD activity in the Educ. + Vit C suppl. group, which was significantly increased. The plasma ceruloplasmin level of groups that received Vit C supplementation was reduced more than any other groups, and the specific ceruloplasmin ferroxidase activity of groups that received Vit C supplementation was elevated more than other groups. These intervention programs had an impact on food habits, nutrition knowledge, plasma antioxidant enzyme activities, and plasma TBARS in male adolescent smokers. Various nutrition education programs must be implemented for adolescent smokers, and further studied are needed regarding sorts and amount of antioxidant nutrients and supplementation duration.
