RESUMO

Laser used to stimulate acupoints is called laser acupuncture (LA). It is generally believed that similar clinical responses to manual acupuncture can be achieved. Here we analysed the effects of the laser (904 nm) at the ‘Zusanli’ acupoint (ST.36) of the stomach meridian on the biodistribution of the radiopharmaceutical Na99mTcO4. Wistar rats were divided into control (CG) and experimental groups (EG). The EG were exposed daily to the laser (904 nm) at ST.36 with 1 joule/min (40 mW/cm2) for 1 min. The animals of the CG were not exposed to laser at all. On the 8th day after LA, the animals were sedated and Na99mTcO4 was administered. After 10 min, the animals were all sacrificed and the organs removed. The radioactivity was counted in each organ to calculate the percentage of radioactivity of the injected dose per gram (%ATI/ g). Comparison of the %ATI/g in EG and CG was performed by Mann-Whitney test. The %ATI/g was significantly increased in the thyroid due to the stimulation of the ST.36 by laser. It is possible to conclude that the stimulation of ST.36 does lead to biological phenomena that interfere with the metabolism of the thyroid.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the effect of acupoint 830 nm semiconductor laser irradiation on skeletal muscle SOD and MDA contents in exhaustive exercise rats. Methods Rats did exhaustive eccentric exercise by downhill treadmill running. Rats were randomized into a blank group (group A), a model group (group B), a pre-exercise semiconductor laser pre-irradiation group (group C), a post-exercise laser irradiation group (group D) and a pre- and post-exercise laser irradiation combination group (group E). Except the blank group, each of the other groups was again divided into 24 h and 48 h subgroups, and there were groups B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, D2, E1 and E2, 8 rats each. Group B rats did one exhaustive exercise by treadmill running. Group C rats received laser pre-irradiation for 7 days before they did exhaustive exercise. Group D rats received laser irradiation after the exercise. Group E rats received laser pre-irradiation for 7 days before treadmill running and combined laser irradiation after the exercise. Specimens were taken in groups B1, C1, D1 and E1 at 24 h after the exercise and in groups B2, C2, D2 and E2 at 48 h after the exercise. A 830 nm semiconductor laser transmitter was used for laser irradiation. Point Chengshan was selected in the rats. Skeletal muscle superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents were measured in every group before and after treatment. Results There was a statistically significant difference in muscular MDA content between group B1, D1, B2 or C2 and group A (P<0.05) and between group D2 or E2 and group B2 (P<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in muscular SOD content between group B1, C1, D1 or B2 and group A (P<0.05) and between group C2, D2 or E2 and group B2 (P<0.05).Conclusion Acupoint 830 nm semiconductor laser irradiation can restore unbalanced oxidation-reduction reactions.

RESUMO

Objective To study the effects of He-Ne laser irradiation on the pH value of gastric juice, the ultrastructure of gastric parietal cells and the content of nitric oxide ( NO ) in chronic atrophic gastritis ( CAG ) . Methods Sixty healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into a normal control group, a model group, a drug group, an acupuncture group and a laser acupoint group, each of 12. A CAG model was successfully intro-duced to all except those in the normal control group through the administration of sodium salicylate and alcohol, combined with fasting and water deprivation, running fatigue and other interventions. The rats of the drug, acupunc-ture and laser acupuncture groups were given medications, acupuncture at Zusanli acupoint and laser irradiation at Zusanli acupoint accordingly. After 14 days of treatment, all of the rats were executed and diluted gastric juice and gastric tissues were collected. NO content in serum was determined using a nitrate enzyme reduction method, the pH value of gastric juice was measured, and the ultrastructure of the gastric mucosa was observed using a transmis-sion electron microscope. Results The average pH of the gastric juice and the average serum NO content were both significantly higher in the model group than in the normal control group. In the model group the membrane structure of the parietal cells was absent or partly dissolved and the mitochondria were swollen. Drugs, acupuncture and laser irradiating at the Zusanli acupoint all corresponded with reduced pH and NO content, but the most signifi-cant improvements were observed in the laser acupuncture group. In the laser acupuncture group the membrane structure of parietal cells was complete, and the cytoplasmic organelles had nearly returned to normal. Conclusions Laser irradiation can promote recovery from CAG, increasing the secretion of gastric acid and de-creasing the serum level of NO. Both have a good curative effect for CAG. Laser irradiation deserves further clinical research and promotion.

RESUMO

Previously we reported that acupuncture to the stellate ganglion stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system as well as the sympathetic nervous system. We measured effects of laser acupuncture to the stellate ganglion (SGL) or electrical acupuncture to the same (SGA) on R-R intervals, deep tissue temperature and blood presure by using 45 patients; 12 in SGL-group and 33 in SGA-group.
Results are as follows; (1) Means of heart rate (HR) decreased with 2bpm in the SGL-group, 3bpm in the SGA-group. (2) Coefficient of variation (CV) of R-R intervals increased with 1% in the SGA-group only. (3) Deep tissue temperature of the ipsilateral anterior forearm of the stimulation did not increase significantly after SGA, while deep tissue temperature increased with 0.3-0.5°C after SGL. Deep tissue temperature of the contralateral anterior forearm showed no significant change in the both groups. (4) Systolic blood pressure increased with 2-4mmHg after SGA and 4-5mmHg after SGL, respectively.
It is suggested that SGL increases deep tissue temperature by affecting autonomic nervous system, but not directly.
