RESUMO

@#Introduction: Uncontrolled hypertension is a leading cause of death worldwide and self-care is one of the essential management strategies. However, data regarding the psychometric properties of self-care instruments in the Indonesian context is lacking. This study aims to validate the Hypertension Self-care Profile (HBP SCP) instrument in the Indonesia version. Methods: A forward-backward translation technique was used for the Hypertension (HBP SCP) questionnaire. This questionnaire had three domains namely motivation, self-efficacy, and behavior. It was completed by a total of 191 respondents and the survey was conducted from September to December 2021 in the Health Primary Care Bandung West Java, Indonesia. The Cronbach’s alpha was used to test the reliability scale, the content validity index was assessed by five experts, and item inter-correlation was analyzed to test the total items. Results: The results showed that the content validity index was in the excellent category with a value of 0.89. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.875, indicating satisfactory internal consistency. Furthermore, the total items correlation had a significance value of 0.05 (df = N-2) for the three scales namely 0.353-0.742, 0.302- 0.642, and 0.237-0.649 for motivation, self-efficacy, and behavior, respectively. Conclusion: The Indonesian version of the Hypertension HBP SCP instrument is valid and reliable.

RESUMO

@#Introduction: Cord blood (CB) is rich in hematopoietic stem cells. There has been significant growth in cord blood banks (CBBs) throughout the world. In Malaysia, the CB units cryopreserved in public CBB is below its optimal level. Lack of knowledge about CB banking among mothers in other countries influenced their decision to donate CB, however, there is no local data to support this in Malaysia. Moreover, no validated and reliable tool is available for measuring local women’s knowledge about CB banking. In this study, a questionnaire to assess pregnant women’s knowledge about CB banking was developed and validated. Method: Several steps were taken to develop the knowledge items in the questionnaire which includes comprehensive literature review, content validity by a panel of experts, and face validity by a group of pregnant women. The questionnaire was developed in Malay language and contained 18 items. After modifications, the self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 121 pregnant women to assess its psychometric properties using two-parameter logistic item response theory analysis and internal consistency reliability analysis. Results: The majority of the knowledge items showed acceptable difficulty and discriminatory values. The Cronbach’s alpha and ICC values were 0.831 and 0.887, respectively, indicating good reliability. All 18 knowledge items were retained for the final version of the questionnaire. Conclusion: The newly developed questionnaire demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties and can be used as a reliable tool to assess knowledge about CB banking among pregnant women in the local population.

RESUMO

@#Introduction: There is an overwhelming need for worldwide applicable subjective grading systems for patients' anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. The scoring system should be validated for their use in advance related measurements. For the Indonesian language speaking population, only the Kujala Patellofemoral Score (KPS) questionnaire has been translated and validated into the Indonesian language for diseases related to knee pain, but none for ACL tears. The present study aims at cross-cultural adaption to measure the validity and reliability of the Kujala patellofemoral score Indonesian version (KPS-I) specifically for ACL tear patients. Material and methods: The responses of 106 ACL tear patients on two questionnaires comprising the KPS-I and Short Form (SF)–36 were examined by determining the validity and reliability. We conducted the validity construct and content, so the reliability was evaluated by test-retest reliability, internal consistency and measurement error. In addition, the research utilised the Bland and Altman method to explore absolute agreement. Results: The construct and content validity were good, where all hypotheses were confirmed, and the floor or ceiling effect did not occur. The reliability proved excellent between test and retest (ICC=0.99). An internal consistency showed a good Cronbach α of 0.86. The standard error of measurement (SEM), minimal detectable change at the individual (MDCind), and minimal detectable change at the group (MDCgrp) were determined to be 2.1, 5.8, and 0.7, respectively. The application of the Bland and Altman plot method revealed no bias in this study. Conclusion: The validation procedure shows that the KPS-I is a good evaluation instrument for Indonesian patients with ACL tear. However, it is suggested that this score be used for follow-up of patients after ACL reconstruction procedure, especially with anterior knee pain related to the original objective of the Kujala score.

RESUMO

@#Introduction: Good knowledge and perception regarding iron supplementation are crucial to ensure adherence to iron therapy. This study aims to develop and validate a questionnaire on the knowledge and perception among pregnant women about oral iron consumption. Method: A self-administrated questionnaire was developed in Malay language through extensive literature search and a face and content validation process. The questionnaire validation involved two parts; Validation Study 1 included item response theory (IRT) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) for the knowledge and perception items, respectively. Validation Study 2 comprised a repeat IRT analysis for the knowledge items and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) for the perception items. Results: For the knowledge section, the initial 22 items in Validation Study 1 were reduced to 19 items after the repeat IRT analysis. The remaining 19 items had difficulty and discrimination parameters close to or within the acceptable values. For the perception section, the original 16 items were reduced to 14 in the EFA as two items had a factor loading ≤0.3. The CFA model showed poor fit of items (chi-square p-value <0.05; CFIrobust=0.73; TLIrobust=0.68; RMSEArobust=0.20; and SRMR=0.12). The Cronbach’s alpha for both sections were >0.7, and the intra-class correlation coefficient value in the knowledge and perception sections were 0.74 and 0.87, respectively. Conclusion: The results illustrate good psychometric properties for the knowledge items. However, further confirmatory validation is needed for the perception items. This questionnaire can be a valid and reliable assessment tool for assessing the knowledge of pregnant women regarding oral iron consumption.

RESUMO

@#Introduction: Fear of cancer progression may lead to worsening of psychological complications of cancer and affects the quality of life of cancer patients. Hence, fear of cancer progression needs to be monitored. This study translated the original English version of the Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form (FoP-Q-SF) into the Malay language and investigated the reliability and validity of the Malay version of the FoP-Q-SF (FoP-Q-SF-M) among Malaysian cancer patients. Methods: Concurrent translation and back translation of the English version of the FoP-Q-SF to the FoP-Q-SF-M was performed, and the FoP-Q-SF-M and the Malay version of the Cancer Therapy Satisfaction Questionnaire (CTSQ-M) (as a comparison to assess the discriminant validity of the FoP-Q-SF-M) were administered to 200 cancer patients with different sites, stages, and duration of cancer diagnosis. Results: The CTSQ-M exhibited excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s α= 0.927) as well as demonstrated good convergent and discriminant validity. Exploratory factor analysis of the FoP-Q-SF-M extracted one factor with twelfth items, thereby this supports the single-factor model reported by the English version of the FoP-Q-SF. Conclusion: The FoP-Q-SF-M exhibited acceptable psychometric properties and valid for use to assess fear of cancer progression in the Malaysian cancer population.

Background: The aim of this study was to analyze psychometric properties of Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) in college students from Cajamarca through exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Methods: The sample was conformed by326 students (73.3% female and 26.7% males) whose average age was 19.7 years old (SD=2.28). The beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) was applied. Results: The initial results showed a single factor explaining 48.16% variance with a reliability of α = .945; however, due to international, national and theoretical background, a second exploratory factor analysis was forced extracting two factors that explained 54.48% variance and a reliabity of = .843 for the first factor and α = .935 for the second on. Validity in relation with other variables shows a correlation between the BDI-II and the Alarcón Happiness Scale (r = - 585, p <.001), Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale (r = .392, p <. 001) and the Reynolds Depression Scale (r = .708, p <.001). Conclusion: Two factor model fits better than the one factor model; however, the BDI-II could be unidimensional.

RESUMO

@#Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) is a simple, valid and reliable questionnaire that can be administered to quantify older adults’ physical activity levels during daily living. However, PASE in Malay language for use among older population is not available. The objective of our current study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Malay translated Physical Activity Scale for Elderly (PASE-M) for the use among older adults. Objective results of physical activity were obtained by wearing continuously an accelerometer for one week among a population of older adults in Malaysia who speak Malay language. Participants completed PASE-M twice, on day-8 (PASE-M1) and day-15 (PASE-M2). Concurrent validity between PASE-M1 and accelerometer results was assessed using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. Test-retest reliability for one week interval of PASE-M was tested using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient and Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC). Forty-four community-dwelling older adults (12 men and 32 women; mean age ± SD= 66.95 ± 5.34) participated in this study. However, only 33 participants (8 men and 25 women; mean age ± SD= 66.64 ± 5.51) were able to achieve the minimum accelerometer wearing time and filled up the PASE-M questionnaire for two times with one weeks interval. The results showed the PASE-M score was significantly correlated with vector magnitude (VM) counts (r=0.54, p<0.01), time in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) (r =0.55, p<0.01), energy expenditure (r =0.53, p<0.01) and walking steps (r=0.39, p<0.05). A high reliability (ICC = 0.96) was demonstrated between first and the subsequent administration of PASE-M (p<0.01, 95% CI: 0.92-0.98). The PASE-M is a valid and reliable questionnaire to assess physical activity level for Malaysian community-dwelling older adults.

RESUMO

@#Cultural attitudes of the societies have long been identified as one of the important determinants of Quality of Life (QoL). Yet there is a dearth of socio-culturally validated instruments for local population to assess the impact of socio-cultural practice on health. The aim of this validation study is to develop and test the validity and reliabilityof a questionnaire on culture dimensions.Respondents were asked about their engagement in socio-cultural aspects including beliefs and practice oftraditional customs and culture using a set of newly developed questionnaire.A total of 275eligible respondentsparticipatedwith150(54.5%)from the general population and 125 (45.5%)from the Orang Asli population. Kaiser-Meyer Olkin measure of Sampling Adequacy (KMO) was 0.791 and 0.677 for the general and Orang Asli population respectively. Bartlett’s test for both population was significant (p<0.001). By Principal Common Analysis, four factorswere extracted (Eigen values >1.0) that jointly accounted for 54.7% and 52.0% of the total variance among the general population and Orang Asli respectively. The Cronbach alpha value score was 0.785and 0.730 for the general population and Orang Asli population respectively. The Cronbach alpha values foreach of the four domains ranged from 0.477-0.865 and 0.543-0.758 for the general population and Orang Asli population respectively. These results suggest that the newly developed questionnaire appeared to have adequate validity and reliability in measuringsocio-cultural factors in the population.

RESUMO

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Multidimensional Body Image Scale (MBIS), a seven-factor, 62-item scale developed for Malaysian female adolescents. This scale was evaluated among male and female Malaysian university students. Methods: A total of 671 university students (52.2% women and 47.8% men) completed a self-administered questionnaire on MBIS, Eating Attitude Test-26, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Their height and weight were measured. Results: Results in confirmatory factor analysis showed that the 62-item MBIS reported poor fit to the data, ²/df = 4.126, p < 0.001, CFI = 0.808, SRMR = 0.070, RMSEA = 0.068 (90% CI = 0.067, 0.070). After re-specification of the model, the model fit was improved with 46 items remaining, ²/df = 3.346, p < 0.001, CFI = 0.903, SRMR = 0.053, RMSEA = 0.059 (90% CI = 0.057, 0.061), and the model showed good fit to the data for men and women separately. This 46-item MBIS had good internal consistency in both men (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.88) and women (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.92). In terms of construct validity, it showed positive correlations with disordered eating and body weight status, but negative correlation with self-esteem. Also, this scale discriminated well between participants with and without disordered eating. Conclusion: The MBIS-46 demonstrated good reliability and validity for the evaluation of body image among university students. Further studies need to be conducted to confirm the validation results of the 46-item MBIS.

RESUMO

Objective: To determine the construct validity and the internal consistency of the Medical Student Stressor Questionnaire (MSSQ) among medical students hence in the future it could be used as a valid and reliable instrument to identify stressors among medical students. Methods: The blueprint for the development of MSSQ was developed after a review of literature on the subject and a discussion with experts in the field. It comprised of 40 items with six hypothetical groups. The face validity of the questionnaire was established through discussion with 141 final year medical students whereas content validity was established through discussion with experts from field of Medical Education and Psychiatry. It was administered to a total of 761 medical students. Data was analysed using Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 12. Factor analysis was applied to test construct validity of the MSSQ. Reliability analysis (Cronbach’s alpha and item total correlation) was applied to test internal consistency of the MSSQ. Results: The total Cronbach’s alpha value of the MSSQ was 0.95. All the preliminary 40 items were included in the MSSQ as the items had item total correlation value of more than 0.3. The items were loaded nicely into the six pre-determined hypothetical groups as their factor loading values were more than 0.3. Conclusion: This study showed that MSSQ had good psychometric value. It is a valid and reliable instrument in identifying stressors among medical students.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to assess the validity and reliability of the Family Impact Scale (FIS) applied in Brazilian parents after translations and cultural adaptations to Brazilian Portuguese language and to evaluate the nature and extent to which the family functioning is compromised by the child oral conditions. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Parents were recruited from general populations for pre-testing (n=20), validity (n=210) and test-retest reliability (n=20) studies. The children were examined for dental caries, gingivitis, fluorosis and malocclusion. RESULTS: The FIS discriminated among the categories of malocclusion and showed good construct validity. The Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.87 and 0.90, respectively. Almost 20 percent of the informants reported some family impact `sometimes' or `often/everyday' from the child's oral condition. Impact on FIS domains of this frequency ranged from 13.8 percent for financial difficulties to 24.4 percent for parental or family activities. CONCLUSIONS: The Brazilian Portuguese version of FIS is valid and reliable. The results suggest that child oral conditions have a negative impact on the family. Further research is required, as these findings were based on cross-sectional study and convenience samples.

RESUMO

@#Objective To analyze the instruments for post stroke fatigue, Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS),Checklist Individual Strength (CIS) and Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS). Methods The FSS,CIS and FIS were applied in 214 cases with cerebral infarction. They were combined together at the (sub)scale level, and evaluated with Mokken Scale Analysis for Polytomous Items, for validity and reliability. Results and Conclusion Three scales were and The combined scale proved to be acceptable (H>0.5). 3 components were extracted in factor analysis, and the their total cumulative contribution was 77.504%, with reliability (α) of 0.8097,0.7094 and 0.8019 respectively. FSS put emphasis on the fatigue experiences of stroke patients, CIS on the influence of fatigue on, and FIS on the social function.
