ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study is to analyze the effects of a mindfulness training psycho-educative program on self-efficacy in the academic performance and relaxation states in a sample of High School students. A randomized controlled trial with pretest-posttest measurements was used with an experimental group and a control group (waiting list). The Cartagena Questionnaire (Cartagena, 2008) and the SRSI Questionnaire (Smith, 2005a) were employed. The statistical analyses carried out on the studied variables showed significant improvements in favor of the experimental group compared with the control group on the levels of self-efficacy in academic performance, as well as on the states of basic relaxation, mindfulness and positive energy. The program also produced a significant reduction in the experimental group compared with the control group in the dimension of perceived stress.

ABSTRACT

This research focused on the impact of a full awareness (mindfulness) program on the sense of growth and personal self-realization in a sample of secondary school students. A randomized controlled design with an experimental group and waiting-list group was implemented. The Self-concept and Self-actualization Questionnaire (AURE) was used as dependent variable and was administrated before and after running the mindfulness program. The results show a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores on all factors and subfactors of the AURE. It is concluded that a program of meditation, focused on mindfulness training, may be a valid and appropriate instrument to improve a personal sense of self-realization and growth. It is also suggested that the use of such a program could be complementary with the Instructional-Emotive Program for Personal Growth and Self-realization (PIECAP) psycho-educational program (AU)

ABSTRACT

his study aimed to check the impact of a training program in mindfulness meditation on blood pressure levels in a group of secondary education teachers suffering essential hypertension, grade 1 and grade 2. A randomised controlled trial with a control group in a waiting list with pretest-postest-follow-up measurement was designed. For the measurement of blood pressure in the study participants, a tensiometer Moron HEM-705 IT was used. Statistical analysis shows a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic arterial pressure postest and 4-month follow-up evaluations in the experimental group as compared to the control group. It is concluded that a programme of such characteristics can be useful and effective in interventions directed at reducing arterial pressure in hypertensive persons, although future studies should be done to increase the validity of the results

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to determine whether a training program in full consciousness (mindfulness) generated effects on perceived self-esteem and emotional intelligence (EI), in teachers from various levels of education (nursery, primary and secondary). The experimental group was formed by 32 subjects and the control group by 33. Self-esteem was assessed with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24. The intervention was performed in ten weekly sessions, of ninety minutes each. It also included take-home exercises, with the purpose of facilitating the implementation of the training. Results show significant differences between control and experimental groups in the considered variables, although effects of the training program were not homogeneous in all subjects in the experimental group. These differences were due to the level of education to which teachers belonged. It is suggested the utility that such intervention programs could have on improving self-esteem and on the modification of skills related to EI

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine whether training in meditation (mindfulness) produced effects on measures of alexithymia and social skills in a group of students. The results indicated that the meditation program produced significant differences in the variable social skills and in five of its factors at posttest. In the intra-analysis, the differences were significant both in alexithymia and in social skills, and in all its factors in the experimental group, and no significant differences were observed in the control group. The percentages of change in the experimental group presented reductions in the total score of alexithymia and its three factors of about 20% and an increase in the variable social skills and its six factors ranging between 15.96 and 22.60%. In the control group, the two variables and their factors ranged from -0.14 to 4.43%. These results should be considered with caution as the study sample was non-clinical and relatively small; therefore, these results should be confirmed with larger samples and patients with high alexithymia.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

In this study we analyse the impact of a meditation programme on the stress perceptionof students in the first year of Teacher Training for Primary Education. For thispurpose, we counted on the participation of an experimental group in this meditationprogramme and a control group that did not take part in this intervention. The stress perception levels of the subjects participating in this research were assessedby means of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) (Cohen, Kamark and Mermelstein, 1983)and the Strain Questionnaire (Luecken et al, 1997).The statistical analyses carried out showed a significant reduction in the stress perceptionlevels of the experimental group in comparison with the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that meditation techniques should be taken into accountfor the training of future primary school teachers, in order to provide them witha series of resources that will allow them to deal effectively with the different stressfulsituations they will have to confront in their work as teachers(AU)
