ABSTRACT

Objective: To know and analyze the scientific production about the working conditions that most impact the health of nursing teachers in higher education . Methodology: Integrative review conducted between March to July 2017. The leading question was “What are the working conditions that most impact the health of nursing faculty?” The inclusion criteria were articles published between 2008 to 2016, in the LILACS, MEDLINE and BDENF databases, fully available in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The exclusion criteria were studies that did not have nursing teachers as the object. Results: The inquiry resulted in 90 publications and with the application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight studies were selected. The working conditions that most influence the health of nursing teachers are those related to the administrative factors of educational institutions, and the most highlighted health impacts were psychological. Conclusion: Thus, it is necessary to take a closer look at the impact of administrative conformation on the health of these workers.

ABSTRACT

Septic arthritis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is an uncommon condition, caused by hematic bacterial migration or direct migration of other head and neck infections. We report a 41 year old female who presented a right temporomandibular joint involvement, with bone destruction of the mandibular condyle and an infectious process spreading to the temporal space, following a necrotizing medial and external otitis with associated mastoiditis. A septic arthritis of the TMJ by continuity was diagnosed and treated with antimicrobials, TMJ arthrocentesis and occlusal stabilization, with a positive evolution. However, the patient remains in control due a secondary TMJ osteoarthritis caused by the septic arthritis.

ABSTRACT

Chondromyxoid fibroma (CF) is a benign bone tumor of cartilaginous origin and is considered the least common of cartilage-derived neoplasms. The lesion's most frequent location is in long bones, while involvement of craniofacial skeleton is extremely unusual. It generally appears in the second and third decade of life and most frequent in men. We present the case of a 68-year-old female with a CF of the zygomatic region. The resection of the tumor and reconstruction of the defect is described.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The relationship between industry funding and study results has been explored widely in medicine but not in dentistry. The authors aimed to assess the relationship between conflicts of interest (COIs) and study results. METHODS: The authors assessed all randomized clinical trials (RCTs) published between July 2010 and June 2012 in the 10 dental journals with the highest impact factors in dentistry. The authors used three definitions of COI and explored their associations with positive study results. RESULTS: Depending on the definition of COI, the odds ratio for reporting positive results varied between 2.40 (95 percent confidence interval [CI], 1.16-5.13) and 9.19 (95 percent CI, 1.71-170.64). The authors found no association between positive study results and journal of publication or area of practice. CONCLUSIONS: RCTs in which authors have some type of COI are more likely to have results that support the intervention being assessed. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: When reviewing the results of RCTs, clinicians need to be aware of the association between reporting positive study results and the type of COI disclosure and be even more careful when critically appraising and applying their results.
