ABSTRACT

We are reviewing some parameters related to the production of the REVISTA DE LOGOPEDIA, FONIATRÍA Y AUDIOLOGÍA since 2000, especially from the last two years. The obtained data have been analyzed in relation to type of publications, university of origin from the article, university department, national or international origin of the article and quality parameters defined by the national agencies and specially from the Social Sciences Citation Index. The progression of the journal during the last decade into the quality ranking could be explained, in part, considering the quality of collaborations and authors, as well as the strict monitoring of the international rules (AU)

ABSTRACT

Assessment of cognitive functions in aging is veryimportant in order to determine the presence ofmild cognitive impairment and its possible evolutionto dementia. With the aim to determine theimportance of assessing language and executivefunctions in patients with mild cognitive impairmentand Alzheimer’s disease, a group of 66patients has been considered. 23 subjects had Alzheimer’sdisease, 22 were diagnosed of mild cognitiveimpairment and 21 were elderly with no cognitiveaffectation. Mini Mental State Examinationwas administered to obtain data about generalcognitive functioning and A Quick Test of CognitiveSpeed: Assessment of Parietal Function wasalso administered to assess processing speed. Languagewas assessed using the Controlled OralWord Association subtests of semantic and phoneticverbal fluency and executive function, by usingWAIS’ subtests of Similarities and Digits andLuria’s neuropsychological examination subtestof Rhythms. Findings support that tests assessingexecutive functions and also processing speed areuseful when discriminating between initial statesof cognitive impairment whereas language tests are more useful when discriminating between mildcognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. Conclusions of the present study show the importanceof considering specific cognitive functionswhen assessing mild cognitive impairment andAlzheimer’s disease, paying special attention toexecutive functions and language(AU)

ABSTRACT

A 4-year longitudinal intervention was conducted with 10 young severely dysarthric children with cerebral palsy. Two procedures were implemented, each one for a period of 2 years. The first procedure centred on training the oral praxies, whereas the second one favoured a more functional approach based on voice and prosody training as well as parents' and school teachers' involvement. Bobath neurodevelopmental treatment was given throughout the 4-year period. Results clearly favour the second type of procedure which in interaction with Bobath's technique proved able to bring the children from unintelligible to an acceptable level of functional speech.
