ABSTRACT

Delirium is highly prevalent among hospitalized older adults and is associated with unfavorable outcomes. However, delirium often remains undiagnosed in the hospital context. Having a valid, simple, and fast screening tool could help in limiting the additional workload for healthcare professionals, without leaving delirium undetected. The aim of this study was to estimate the sensitivity and specificity of the Recognizing Acute Delirium As part of your Routine (RADAR) scale in an Italian hospital. An observational cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 150 patients aged ≥70 years were enrolled. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves using the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) criterion-defined delirium as the gold standard were plotted to evaluate the performance of the RADAR scale. The cut-off suggested by previous research was used to estimate the sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of the RADAR scale. The involved patients were mostly females (60%; n = 90), with a median age of 84 years (I-III quartiles: 80-88). According to the CAM and the RADAR scale, 37 (25%) and 58 (39%) patients were classified as experiencing delirium, respectively. The area under the ROC curve of the RADAR scale was 0.916. Furthermore, the RADAR scale showed robust sensitivity (95%), specificity (80%), and positive (60%) and negative predictive values (98%). The RADAR scale is thus suggested to be a valid tool for screening assessment of delirium in hospitalized older adults.

ABSTRACT

The clinical experience of Shao's needling technique for post-stroke depression is introduced. Professor SHAO Jingming proposes that the main pathogenesis of this condition lies in the "imbalance of body and spirit," with its onset closely related to the heart, liver, spleen, and kidney. In clinical practice, based on the principle of "treating both the body and spirit", "three acupoints for treating the spirit" including Dazhui (GV 14), Fengchi (GB 20), and Baihui (GV 20) are selected, combined with back-shu points such as Xinshu (BL 15), Ganshu (BL 18), Pishu (BL 20), and Shenshu (BL 23). The nu-needle manipulation method is applied. The treatment focuses on both physical and mental aspects, achieving remarkable therapeutic effects.

ABSTRACT

Aim The objective of this study includes the NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturer Association) NU2-2018 performance evaluation of the uMIvista PET-CT (positron emission tomography-computed tomography) system. Methods The latest NEMA NU2-2018 guidelines have been followed for the evaluation of performance parameters of this PET-CT scanner: axial, tangential, and radial spatial resolution, sensitivity, counting losses, scatter, randomness, random and counting loss correction, image quality, time and energy resolution, image uniformity, and image registration alignment post installation of country first uMIvista PET-CT. Results The measured NEMA sensitivity of the uMIvista PET scanner was 12.053 cps/kBq. The spatial resolutions of the PET were measured as tangential, radial, and transaxial spatial resolutions at 10 mm, with 3.01 mm, 2.95 mm, and 2.93 mm, respectively; at 100 mm, with 3.17 mm, 3.42 mm, and 3.05 mm, respectively; and at 200 mm, with 3.65 mm, 4.54 mm, and 3.17 mm, respectively, at full-width half-maximum (FWHM); while at full-width tenths-maximum (FWTM), the values at 10 mm were 5.79 mm, 5.57 mm, and 5.69 mm, respectively, and at 100 mm were 5.59 mm, 5.96 mm, and 5.91 mm, respectively. The measured time-of-flight (TOF) timing resolution was 302.294 ps and the measured energy resolution was 11.76% with FWHM and FWTM. Conclusion The NEMA NU2-2018 performances of this TOF-integrated digital PET-CT system are extremely good in all parameters.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the number of available chemical pesticides has been dramatically reduced, urging the need for the discovery of alternatives to chemical pesticide products such as, among others, natural zeolites (zeolitic rocks). We determined the mineralogical and chemical composition of a specific and continuous layer of zeolitic rock sample (ZeotP) from Petrota, Evros, Greece, and evaluated its oviposition-deterrent effect on the olive fruit fly Bactrocera oleae Gmelin (Diptera: Terphritidae). The tested natural zeolite contained 70 wt. % clinoptilolite, 18 wt. % amorphous material, 7 wt. % feldspars, 4 wt. % cristobalite, and 1 wt. % quartz. We tested the oviposition-deterrent effect of ZeotP mixed or not with an emulsifier adjuvant, NU-FILM-P®, in water and applied it to the surface of olive fruits. The ZeotP oviposition-deterrent effect on the olive fly was very high under a series of tested temperatures (17 °C, 20 °C, 25 °C, and 30 °C) and RHs (23%, 33%, 55%, 75%, and 94%). In addition, the ZeotP residual deterrent effect after equable water spraying was high, like the respective effect of the pyrethroid insecticide Decis® (deltamethrin). Our results may contribute to the effective control of the olive fruit fly using an alternative to chemical pesticides: natural zeolite (zeolitic rocks) products.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Large scintillation crystals-based gamma cameras play a crucial role in nuclear medicine imaging. In this study, a large field-of-view (FOV) gamma detector consisting of 48 square PMTs developed using a new readout electronics, reducing 48 (6 × 8) analog signals to 14 (6 + 8) analog sums of each row and column, with reduced complexity and cost while preserving image quality. METHODS: All 14 analog signals were converted to digital signals using AD9257 high-speed analog to digital (ADC) converters driven by the SPARTAN-6 family of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) in order to calculate the signal integrals. The positioning algorithm was based on the digital correlated signal enhancement (CSE) algorithm implemented in the acquisition software. The performance characteristics of the developed gamma camera were measured using the NEMA NU 1-2018 standards. RESULTS: The measured energy resolution of the developed detector was 8.7 % at 140 keV, with an intrinsic spatial resolution of 3.9 mm. The uniformity was within 0.6 %, while the linearity was within 0.1 %. CONCLUSION: The performance evaluation demonstrated that the developed detector has suitable specifications for high-end nuclear medicine imaging.

ABSTRACT

Microchemical maps, also known as "chemoscapes", hold immense potential for reconstructing fish habitat utilization and guiding conservation efforts. This approach relies on matching the microchemical composition of fish calcified structures (e.g., otoliths) with the surrounding water's microchemistry. However, applying this method faces a major challenge: a clear understanding of the spatiotemporal variability and drivers of water microchemistry, particularly in vast, free-flowing river ecosystems like the Nu-Salween River, Southeast Asia's longest free-flowing river. We analyzed the spatiotemporal variability and influencing factors of water microchemistry (i.e., Na:Ca, Mg:Ca, Mn:Ca, Cu:Ca, Zn:Ca, Se:Ca, Sr:Ca, and Ba:Ca) in the upper Nu-Salween River, based on a two-year sampling. Five elemental ratios (excluding Na:Ca, Mg:Ca, and Zn:Ca) in water demonstrated significant spatiotemporal variability, with Cu:Ca having the largest spatial variation, and Mn:Ca and Sr:Ca showing the greatest temporal variation. More specifically, four elemental ratios (Cu:Ca, Se:Ca, Sr:Ca, and Ba:Ca), exhibited significant variations along the longitudinal gradient, and Mn:Ca, Cu:Ca, Sr:Ca, and Ba:Ca, showed significant differences between mainstreams and tributaries. Temporally, Mn:Ca, Cu:Ca, and Ba:Ca displayed higher values and variations during the wet season, opposing the seasonal patterns of Na:Ca, Mg:Ca, and Sr:Ca. The four-element (Ba:Ca, Sr:Ca, Mg:Ca, and Mn:Ca) forest model showed the highest classification accuracy of 93%. Linear mixed-effects models showed that spatial factors have the largest influence on the variances in water microchemistry (56.36 ± 28.64%). Our study highlights the feasibility and reliability of utilizing microchemistry to reconstruct fish habitat utilization, thereby unveiling promising avenues for a more accurate understanding of fish life history in large rivers characterized by high heterogeneity in water microchemistry. By proportionally accounting for contribution of different factors to water microchemistry variability and relating them to microchemical composition of fish calcified structures, key fish habitats (e.g., spawning grounds) and migratory routes can be more precisely identified and thus protected.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Neonatal unit (NU) admissions for premature babies can last for months, which can significantly impact parental mental health (MH) with symptoms of depression, stress, and anxiety. Literature suggests fathers experience comparable MH symptoms to mothers. Family integrated care (FICare) is a culture where parents are collaborators and partners in caring for their hospitalized newborns. FICare improves infant outcomes and maternal MH. Similar reports on fathers are limited. OBJECTIVE: The primary aim of this study is to investigate the impact of supporting father or partner engagement in FICare of preterm infants on their MH up to 6 weeks postdischarge. The secondary aim is to investigate the impact on maternal MH. METHODS: This is a 2-phase study: phase 1 to gather baseline information and phase 2 to assess the impact of enhanced father or partner engagement in FICare on their MH, involving 2 NUs (tertiary and level 2). Enhanced FICare will be developed and introduced (eg, information booklet, workbook, classes, and a father peer-support group) alongside standard FICare practices. Father or partner MH will be assessed with semistructured qualitative interviews and validated questionnaires: Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment, Patient Health Questionnaire, and Parental Stressor Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit from NU admission to 6 weeks postdischarge. Mothers will be assessed by focus groups and the same questionnaires. Descriptive statistics and appropriate comparative tests, such as the 2-tailed t test, will be used to analyze and compare phase 1 and 2 data. Qualitative data will be coded line by line with the use of NVivo (Lumivero) and thematically analyzed. Simultaneously, systematic reviews (SRs) of fathers' experiences of FICare and their MH outcomes will be conducted. The study was approved by the National Research Ethics Committee (22/EM/0140) in August 2022. A parent advisory group was formed to advise on the study methodology, materials, involvement of participant parents, and dissemination of study findings. RESULTS: A recent SR demonstrated that data saturation is likely to be achieved by interviewing 9 to 17 participants. We will study a maximum of 20 parents of infants born at less than 33 weeks' gestation in each phase. As of October 2023, the study was ongoing. The SR studies are registered with the PROSPERO database (324275 and 306760). The projected end date for data collection is July 2024; data analysis will be conducted in November 2024 and publication will occur in 2025. CONCLUSIONS: The study aims to demonstrate the feasibility of using a father or partner-sensitive FICare model for parents of premature babies with a positive impact on their MH. It will demonstrate the feasibility of providing FICare to extremely premature babies receiving intensive care. This study may support the development of inclusive FICare guidelines for nonbirthing parents and their extremely premature infants. AIM: To report on the performance characteristics of the 5-ring GE Discovery MI PET/CT systems using the AAPM TG-126 report and compare these results to NEMA NU 2-2012 where applicable. MATERIALS AND METHODS: TG-126 testing was performed on two GE 5-Rings Discovery MI scanners. Tests performed included spatial resolution, PET/CT image-registration accuracy, sensitivity, count rate performance, accuracy of corrections, image contrast, scatter/attenuation correction, and image uniformity. All acquired data were analyzed using scanner console or free software tools as described by TG-126 and the results were then compared to published NEMA NU 2-2012 values. RESULTS: Both scanners gave similar resolution results for TG-126 and NEMA NU 2-2012 and were within manufacturer specifications. Image-registration accuracy between PET and CT using our clinical protocol showed excellent results with values ≤1 mm. Sensitivity using TG-126 was 19.43 cps/kBq while for NEMA the value was 20.73 cps/kBq. The peak noise-equivalent counting rate was 2174 kcps at 63.1 kBq/mL and is not comparable to NEMA NU 2-2012 due to differences in phantoms and methods used to measure and calculate this parameter. The accuracy of corrections for count losses for TG-126 were expressed in SUV values and found to be within 10% of the expected SUV measurement of 1. Image contrast and scatter/attenuation correction using the TG-126 method gave acceptable results. Image uniformity assessment resulted in values within the recommended ± 5% limits. CONCLUSION: These results show that the 5-ring GE Discovery MI PET/CT scanner testing using TG-126 is reproducible and has similar results to NEMA NU 2-2012 tests where applicable. We hope these results start to form the basis to compare PET/CT systems using TG-126.

ABSTRACT

DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PK) is a multifunctional serine­threonine protein kinase that plays roles in non-homologous end joining of DNA repair in cells. NU7441 is a specific DNA-PKcs inhibitor. We investigated the effects of NU7441 on the transcriptome of BT549 triple negative breast cancer cells. Total RNA extracted from NU7441-treated or control BT549 cells was processed for preparation of sequencing libraries. Assessment of read quality was performed using fastqc tool. Trimming and filtering low-quality reads were performed using fastp. Reads were aligned by hisat2. SAM files were converted to BAM files using Samtools. The gene differential expression analysis, Gene Ontology (GO) analysis and KEGG pathway analysis were performed. After NU7441 treatment, total number of 2045 differential genes were selected according to |log2(FoldChange)| >= 1 & padj<= 0.05, among which 1365 genes were down-regulated and 680 genes were up-regulated. The differential expression genes in pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) immune responses signals, including NOD-like receptor signaling, Toll-like receptor signaling, RIG-I-like receptor signaling and cytosolic DNA-sensing pathways were noted in this paper.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The Monte Carlo method is an effective tool to simulate and verify PET systems. Furthermore, it can help in the design and optimization of new medical imaging devices and algorithms. In this framework, the goal of this work is to verify the GATE toolkit performance when applied to simulate two Siemens Healthineers PET scanners: a standard axial field-of-view Biograph Vision scanner and the new long axial field-of-view Biograph Vision Quadra scanner. METHODS: The simulation toolkit GATE is based on GEANT4, comprising its main functionalities and a set of domain-specific features in the field of medical physics. To accomplish our purpose, the guidelines described in the NEMA NU 2-2018 protocol are reproduced. Then the simulated results are compared to experimental data available in the literature for both PET scanners. The assessment of the models includes different studies of sensitivity, count rate performances, spatial resolution and image quality. These tests are intended to evaluate the image quality of PET devices. RESULTS: In the spatial resolution test, relative errors lower than 8% are obtained between the experiments and GATE models. The sensitivity is 17.2 cps/kBq (Vision) and 175.9 cps/kBq (Quadra), representing relative differences with the experiment of 6% and 0.3%, respectively. Deviations from peak NECR are less than 9%. In the Image Quality test, the contrast recovery coefficient for hot spheres, with 8 iterations and 5 subsets, ranges between 57-83% for Vision and 54-86% for Quadra. These values represent a maximum deviation between the simulations and the experiments of 10% for the Quadra scanner. In the case of the Vision scanner, the highest difference is observed for the 10 mm sphere (∼38%) due to the higher contrast recovery of the experiment caused by the Gibbs artifact from the use of PSF reconstruction. CONCLUSIONS: The results of the simulations have provided evidence of a good agreement between the experimental data and the results obtained with GATE. Thus, this work supports the capability of this MC toolkit to accurately simulate the models of the Vision and Quadra scanners. This study has laid the basis for further research in this field and has identified several areas that could be explored.

ABSTRACT

Soybean (Glycine max) is one of the most important crops worldwide. This crop is prone to diseases caused by the phytopathogenic fungi Macrophomina phaseolina, Fusarium oxysporum, and the lepidopteran pest Rachiplusia nu. Biological control using entomopathogenic fungi is a sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides. In this study, we assessed the antifungal activity of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae against phytopathogens and the pathogenicity of B. bassiana as an endophyte against R. nu. The antagonic activity of the fungal entomopathogens was evaluated in vitro by dual culture bioassays. The feeding preference of R. nu was evaluated in a "free choice" assay under laboratory conditions. Entomopathogenic fungi inhibited the mycelial growth of the phytopathogens. The best response in all cases was observed when the antagonists were placed in the culture medium two days before the pathogens. B. bassiana was the best antagonist of F. oxysporum, while both antagonists had similar inhibitory effects on M. phaseolina growth. Additionally, B. bassiana, when grown as an endophyte, reduced insects' food preferences and decreased soybean consumption. Findings suggest that entomopathogenic fungi can fulfill multiple roles in the ecosystem. Therefore, the simultaneous expression of both properties should be considered for their application in integrated pest management programs.

BACKGROUND: Due to the high demand for novel approaches for leukemia-targeted therapy, this study investigates the impact of DNA-PK inhibitor NU7441 on the sensitivity of pre-B ALL cells to the telomerase inhibitor MST-312. METHODS: The study involved NALM-6 cells treated with MST-312 and NU7441, assessing their viability and metabolic activity using trypan blue and MTT assays. The study also evaluated apoptosis, gene expression changes, and DNA damage using flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, and micronucleus assays. The binding energy of MST-312 in the active site of telomerase was calculated using molecular docking. RESULTS: The study's findings revealed a synergistic decline in both cell viability and metabolic activity in NALM-6 cells when exposed to the combined treatment of MST-312 and NU7441, and this decrease occurred without any adverse effects on healthy PBMC cells. Furthermore, the combination treatment exhibited a significantly higher induction of apoptosis than treatment with MST-312 alone, as observed through flow cytometry assay. qRT-PCR analysis revealed that this enhanced apoptosis was associated with a notable downregulation of Bcl-2 expression and an upregulation of Bax gene expression. Moreover, the combination therapy decreased expression levels of hTERT and c-Myc genes. The micronucleus assay indicated that the combination treatment increased DNA damage in NALM-6 cells. Also, a good conformation between MST-312 and the active site of telomerase was revealed by docking data. CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests that simultaneous inhibition of telomerase and DNA-PK in pre-B ALL presents a novel targeted therapy approach.

ABSTRACT

Lenvatinib is a frontline tyrosine kinase inhibitor for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, just 25% of patients benefit from the treatment, and acquired resistance always develops. To date, there are neither effective medications to combat lenvatinib resistance nor accurate markers that might predict how well a patient would respond to the lenvatinib treatment. Thus, novel strategies to recognize and deal with lenvatinib resistance are desperately needed. In the current study, a robust Lenvatinib Resistance index (LRi) model to predict lenvatinib response status in HCC was first established. Subsequently, five candidate drugs (Mercaptopurine, AACOCF3, NU1025, Fasudil, and Exisulind) that were capable of reversing lenvatinib resistance signature were initially selected by performing the connectivity map (CMap) analysis, and fasudil finally stood out by conducting a series of cellular functional assays in vitro and xenograft mouse model. Transcriptomics revealed that the co-administration of lenvatinib and fasudil overcame lenvatinib resistance by remodeling the hedgehog signaling pathway. Mechanistically, the feedback activation of EGFR by lenvatinib led to the activation of the GLI2-ABCC1 pathway, which supported the HCC cell's survival and proliferation. Notably, co-administration of lenvatinib and fasudil significantly inhibited IHH, the upstream switch of the hedgehog pathway, to counteract GLI2 activation and finally enhance the effectiveness of lenvatinib. These findings elucidated a novel EGFR-mediated mechanism of lenvatinib resistance and provided a practical approach to overcoming drug resistance in HCC through meaningful drug repurposing strategies.

BACKGROUND: Small Animal Fast Insert for MRI detector I (SAFIR-I) is a novel Positron Emission Tomography insert for a [Formula: see text] Bruker BioSpec 70/30 Ultra Shield Refrigerated Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system. It facilitates truly simultaneous quantitative imaging in mice and rats at injected activities as high as [Formula: see text]. Exploitation of the resulting high count rates enables quick image formation at few seconds per frame. In this investigation, key performance parameters of SAFIR-I have been determined according to the evaluations outlined in the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Standards Publication NU 4-2008 (NEMA-NU4) protocol. RESULTS: Using an energy window of 391 to [Formula: see text] and a Coincidence Timing Window of [Formula: see text], the following performance was observed: The average spatial resolution at [Formula: see text] radial offset (Full Width at Half Maximum) is [Formula: see text] when using Filtered Backprojection, 3D Reprojection reconstruction. For the mouse- and rat-like phantoms, the maximal Noise-Equivalent Count Rates (NECRs) are [Formula: see text] at the highest tested average effective concentration of [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] at the highest tested average effective concentration of [Formula: see text], respectively. The NECR peak is not yet reached for either of these cases. The peak sensitivity is [Formula: see text]. The Image Quality phantom uniformity standard deviation is [Formula: see text]. The Recovery Coefficient for the [Formula: see text] rod is [Formula: see text]. The Spill-Over Ratios are [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], for the water- and air-filled cylinder, respectively. An accuracy of [Formula: see text] was achieved for the quantitative calibration of reconstructed voxel values. CONCLUSIONS: The measured performance parameters indicate that the various design goals have been achieved. SAFIR-I offers excellent performance, especially at the high activities it was designed for. This facilitates planned experiments with fast tracer kinetics in small animals. Ways to potentially improve performance can still be explored. Simultaneously, further performance gains can be expected for a forthcoming insert featuring 2.7 times longer axial coverage named Small Animal Fast Insert for MRI detector II (SAFIR-II).

ABSTRACT

Chyle leak is a pathological extravasation of chyle into the peritoneal cavity after a surgical injury. It is an uncom-mon complication in colorectal surgery. In most cases, conservative treatment is effective, although it often entails prolonged hospital stays.We present the case of a 60-year-old female with chyle leak after laparoscopic left hemicolectomy with complete mesocolic excision who underwent successful outpatient conservative management. We found no other cases of suc-cessful conservative outpatient treatment in the consulted literature. Adequate outpatient management may provide significant benefits by reducing hospital costs and improv-ing patient’s quality of life, while maintaining the possibility of starting adjuvant treatment if indicated (AU)


La ascitis quilosa es una acumulación patológica de quilo en la cavidad peritoneal tras una lesión quirúrgica. Es una complicación infrecuente de la cirugía colorrectal. En la mayoría de los casos, el tratamiento conservador suele ser eficaz, aunque conlleva estancias hospitalarias prolongadas.Se presenta el caso de una paciente de 60 años que de-sarrolló ascitis quilosa trasuna hemicolectomía izquierda laparoscópica, con escisión completa del mesocolon, que se resolvió con éxito mediante manejo conservador ambu-latorio. No se han encontrado casos exitosos de tratamien-to conservador ambulatorio en la bibliografía consultada. Un manejo ambulatorio como el propuesto puede aportar importantes beneficios en términos de reducción de costes hospitalarios y mejora de la calidad de vida del paciente, manteniendo la posibilidad de iniciar un tratamiento adyu-vante si está indicado (AU)

ABSTRACT

Solution shearing, a meniscus-guided coating process, can create large-area metal-organic framework (MOF) thin films rapidly, which can lead to the formation of uniform membranes for separations or thin films for sensing and catalysis applications. Although previous work has shown that solution shearing can render MOF thin films, examples have been limited to a few prototypical systems, such as HKUST-1, Cu-HHTP, and UiO-66. Here, we expand on the applicability of solution shearing by making thin films of NU-901, a zirconium-based MOF. We study how the NU-901 thin film properties (i.e., crystallinity, surface coverage, and thickness) can be controlled as a function of substrate temperature and linker concentration. High fractional surface coverage of small-area (∼1 cm2) NU-901 thin films (0.88 ± 0.06) is achieved on a glass substrate for all conditions after one blade pass, while a low to moderate fractional surface coverage (0.73 ± 0.18) is obtained for large-area (∼5 cm2) NU-901 thin films. The crystallinity of NU-901 crystals increases with temperature and decreases with linker concentration. On the other hand, the adjusted thickness of NU-901 thin films increases with both increasing temperature and linker concentration. We also extend the solution shearing technique to synthesize MOF-525 thin films on a transparent conductive oxide that are useful for electrocatalysis. We show that Fe-metalated MOF-525 films can reduce CO2 to CO, which has implications for CO2 capture and utilization. The demonstration of thin film formation of NU-901 and MOF-525 using solution shearing on a wide range of substrates will be highly useful for implementing these MOFs in sensing and catalytic applications.

ABSTRACT

Objective.Contrast recovery coefficient (CRC) is essential for image quality (IQ) assessment in positron emission tomography (PET), typically measured according to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) NU 2 standard. This study quantifies systematic uncertainties of the CRC measurement by a numerical investigation of the effects from scanner-independent parameters like voxel size, region-of-interest (ROI) misplacement, and sphere position on the underlying image grid.Approach.CRC measurements with 2D and 3D ROIs were performed on computer-generated images of a NEMA IQ-like phantom, using voxel sizes of 1-4 mm for sphere diameters of 5-40 mm-first in absence of noise and blurring, then with simulated spatial resolution and image noise with varying noise levels. The systematic uncertainties of the CRC measurement were quantified from above variations of scanner-independent parameters. Subsampled experimental images of a NEMA IQ phantom were additionally used to investigate the impact of ROI misplacement at different noise levels.Main results.In absence of noise and blurring, systematic uncertainties were up to 28.8% and 31.0% with 2D and 3D ROIs, respectively, for the 10 mm sphere, with the highest impact from ROI misplacement. In all cases, smaller spheres showed higher uncertainties with larger voxels. Contrary to prior assumptions, the use of 3D ROIs did not exhibit less susceptibility for parameter changes. Experimental and computer-generated images both demonstrated considerable variations on individual CRC measurements when background coefficient-of-variation exceeded 20%, despite negligible effects on mean CRC.Significance.This study underscores the effect of scanner-independent parameters on reliability, reproducibility, and comparability of CRC measurements. Our findings highlight the trade-off between the benefits of smaller voxel sizes and noise-induced CRC fluctuations, which is not considered in the current version of the NEMA IQ standards. The results furthermore warrant adjustments to the standard to accommodate the advances in sensitivity and spatial resolution of current-generation PET scanners.

ABSTRACT

The advancement of new urbanization policy (NU) and the attainment of double carbon targets play pivotal roles in facilitating high-quality economic development in China. This paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of the mechanism and spatial spillover effects of NU on carbon emission intensity reduction (CEIR), building upon an examination of the nature of NU and the principles of urban carbon pollution control. The research employs a multi-period difference-in-difference model (DID) to explore the causal relationship between NU and CEIR, using panel data from 278 prefecture-level cities spanning the period of 2006 to 2020. Empirical results demonstrate that the implementation of NU resulted in an 8.4 % reduction in carbon emission intensity (CEI). Furthermore, the analysis of the transmission mechanism reveals that NU stimulates green technology innovation and facilitates the development of industrial agglomeration, thus achieving CEIR. The decomposition of the spatial Durbin model indicates significant spatial spillover effects in the effectiveness of NU, signifying its positive impacts not only within the region but also in generating benefits for surrounding areas. Moreover, the dynamic heterogeneity results indicate that entrepreneurial vitality and urbanization rate exhibit dynamic effects on the policy's CEIR effect, both displaying nonlinear enhancement curves. Based on this, the policy implications of this paper include: The government should enhance regional coordinated governance to address carbon emissions pollution in alignment with China's NU. This can be accomplished by effectively harnessing the driving role of green innovation and industrial agglomeration. Additionally, the local government can actively create an entrepreneurial atmosphere and expedite the urbanization process in order to support NU in the implementation and achievement of CEIR.

ABSTRACT

Internal vibrations may affect the adsorption, scattering, and reactions of molecules impinging onto a surface. The energy of the ν 3 antisymmetric stretch vibration of CO2 slightly exceeds the desorption energy of CO2 bound to CO2 ice. We use supersonic molecular beam techniques and rovibrationally state-resolved excitation to determine whether this vibration affects condensation of gas phase CO2 to its ice. We detect sticking and CO2 ice formation using RAIRS and quantify the sticking probability using the King and Wells method with modulation of the vibrational excitation and Fourier transform based detection. We find that the influence of this vibration on the structure of the formed ice and on the sticking probability is negligible under our conditions. Based on our detection limit, we quantify the weighted average sticking probability at approximately 0.9 and the difference between the state-resolved and weighted average sticking probability as below 0.03%.
