Introduction: Dengue is a public health challenge worldwide. Brazil registered about 70% of cases in Latin America in 2023; in 2024, the country is experiencing an unprecedented increase in the number of infected individuals. By May 2024, more than 4 million people were infected. Our goal was to: (1) determine the epidemiology of dengue cases and their spatiotemporal distribution and (2) carry out a survey of the storm drains and through a geospatial analysis to determine their possible correlation with cases of dengue in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, Brazil. Methods: Cases and information on the habitat of mosquito in the storm drain underground drainage system from 2020 to 2021 were obtained from public agencies. Larvae, pupae, and Ae. aegypti were identified according to species and described in taxonomic keys. Kernel density maps were constructed. Results: From 1996 to 2023, the prevalence of cases peaked in 2016 and 2019, and in 2023 reached alarming levels, and the city was considered hyperendemic. In 2021, 2,609 cases were registered with 2 clusters of high density. Of 5,492 storm drains analyzed, 18.0% were found to have water, 9.0% had larvae or pupae of Aedes aegypti and 91.0% were classified as dirty or damaged. A direct correlation between the kernel layer of cases in 2021 with the kernel layer of storm drains containing water (r = 0.651) and larvae and pupae (r = 0.576) was found, suggesting that storm drains are risk factors and have an impact on the maintenance of dengue endemicity. The high number of damaged units found demonstrated the lack of storm drain management, compromising the urban drainage system and possibly contributing to dengue outbreaks. Conclusion: Policymakers may use these findings to improve existing dengue control strategies focusing on the control of storm drains and increase local and global perspectives on reducing dengue outbreaks.

PURPOSE: Bioactive molecules are relevant to fight cancer and associated conditions. Quinoxaline is a privileged N-heterocycle, notably as anticancer agents. Herein, we report the evaluation of the quinoxaline derivatives DEQX and OAQX as anticancer agents, as well as in function of their anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. METHODS: Quinoxalines were synthesized and tested as anticancer agents based on cell viability and Annexin V-FITC apoptosis. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated from mouse carrageenan peritonitis and levels of interleukin (IL)-1ß and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alfa for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Hot-plate and acetic acid-induced writing test were employed to investigate analgesia. RESULTS: Both reduced the Ht-29 cell viability in a dependent-concentration manner (p < 0.001). Total apoptosis was detected for cells treated with 12.5 and 25 µg/mL of both the compounds for 24 and 48 h (all doses, p < 0.0001). DEQX (all doses, p < 0.01) and OAQX (all doses, p < 0.001) acted in leukocyte migration and decreased the IL-1ß and TNF-ß levels (p < 0.05). DEQX (all doses, p < 0.05) and OAQX (5mg/kg, p < 0.001) showed peripheral analgesic effect. CONCLUSIONS: In-vitro and in-vivo results suggest that these quinoxalines are promising for application in pharmacological area due to their anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and peripheric analgesia.

Plant extracts are increasingly recognized as potential prophylactic agents in poultry production due to their diverse bioactive properties. This study investigated the phytochemical and biological properties of Libidibia ferrea (L. ferrea), a plant species native to the Caatinga region of northeastern Brazil. The aim of this study was to identify secondary metabolites and to demonstrate the antimicrobial, antioxidant and protective effects of the plant extract. Three extracts were produced: EHMV, a hydroalcoholic extract from the maceration of pods, and EEMC and EEMV ethanolic extracts from the maceration of peels and pods, respectively, from L. ferrea. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-MS/MS) and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) were used to characterize the metabolites and metals. The antimicrobial activity against Salmonella Galinarum (SG), Salmonella pullorum (SP), Salmonella Heidelberg (SH) and Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) was evaluated alone and in combination with probiotic bacteria (Bacillus velenzensis) using agar diffusion and the bactericidal minimum concentration (CBM). The antioxidant potential of the extracts was evaluated in 5 in vitro assays and 6 assays in 3t3 cells. The toxicity of EHMV was tested, and its ability to combat SP infection was demonstrated using a chicken embryo model. The results showed that EHMV exhibited significant antimicrobial activity. The combination of EHMV with BV had synergistic effects, increased antimicrobial activity and induced bacterial sporulation. Composition analysis revealed the presence of 8 compounds, including tannins and phenolic compounds. In vitro antioxidant tests demonstrated that total antioxidant capacity(TAC) activity was increased, and the extract had strong reducing power and notable metal chelating effects. Analysis of 3T3 cells confirmed the protective effect of EHMV against oxidative stress. Toxicity assessments in chicken embryos confirmed the safety of EHMV and its protective effect against SP-induced mortality. EHMV from L. ferrea is rich in proteins and contains essential metabolites that contribute to its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. When associated with probiotic bacteria such as B. velezensis, this extract increases the inhibition of SH, SG, SP, and APE. The nontoxic nature of EHMV and its protective effects on chicken embryos make it a potential supplement for poultry.

â¢In this review, we described different murine models of carcinogenesis: classic models, new transgenic and combined models, that reproduce the key points for HCC and CCA genesis allowing a better understanding of its genetic physiopathological, and environmental abnormalities. â¢Each model has its advantages, disadvantages, similarities, and differences with the corresponding human disease and should be chosen according to the specificity of the study. Ultimately, those models can also be used for testing new anticancer therapeutic approaches. â¢Cholangiocarcinoma has been highlighted, with an increase in prevalence. This review has an important role in understanding the pathophysiology and the development of new drugs. RESUMO Contexto: Este manuscrito fornece uma visão geral da carcinogênese hepática em modelos murinos de carcinoma hepatocelular (CHC) e colangiocarcinoma (CCA). Objetivo: Realizar uma revisão de artigos científicos até agosto de 2022 utilizando as bases de dados MEDLINE e EMBASE. Métodos: A busca foi realizada em todas as bases de dados eletrônicas e as palavras-chave usadas foram CHC, CCA, carcinogenesis, modelos animais e fígado. A exclusão dos artigos baseou-se na falta de estreita relação com o assunto. Os modelos de carcinogênese do CHC incluíram: CHC induzido por senescência em animais transgênicos, CHC induzido por dieta, CHC induzido por agentes quimiotóxicos, xenoenxerto, oncogenes e CHC em animais transgênicos inoculados com vírus B e C. Os modelos de CCA incluíram: o uso de dimetilnitrosamina (DMN), dietilnitrosamina (DEN), tioacetamida (TAA) e tetracloreto de carbono (CCl4). Os modelos murinos de CCA induzidos por incluir: células de CCA, manipulação genética, animais nocaute para Smad4, PTEN e p53, xenoenxerto e ligadura do ducto biliar mediano esquerdo. Resultados: Nesta revisão, descrevemos diferentes modelos murinos de carcinogênese que reproduzem os pontos-chave para a gênese do CHC e do CCA, permitindo uma melhor compreensão de suas anormalidades genéticas, fisiopatológicas e ambientais. Conclusão: Cada modelo tem suas vantagens, desvantagens, semelhanças e diferenças com a doença humana correspondente e deve ser escolhido de acordo com a especificidade do estudo. Em última análise, esses modelos também podem ser utilizados para testar novas abordagens terapêuticas anticancerígenas.

The Aedes aegypti mosquito is a vector of severe diseases with high morbidity and mortality rates. The most commonly used industrial larvicides have considerable toxicity for non-target organisms. This study aimed to develop and evaluate liquid and solid carrier systems to use pentyl cinnamate (PC), derived from natural sources, to control Ae. aegypti larvae. The liquid systems consisting of nanoemulsions with different lecithins systems were obtained and evaluated for stability over 30 days. Microparticles (MPs) were obtained by the spray drying of the nanoemulsions using maltodextrin as an adjuvant. Thermal, NMR and FTIR analysis indicated the presence of PC in microparticles. Indeed, the best nanoemulsion system was also the most stable and generated the highest MP yield. The PC larvicidal activity was increased in the PC nanoemulsion system. Therefore, it was possible to develop, characterize and obtain PC carrier systems active against Ae. aegypti larvae.

Lead is a highly toxic metal associated with many human health diseases that can be caused by several environmental changes. Innovative sustainable solutions for water remediation have been recently encouraged by using renewable, low-cost and earth-abundant biomass materials to ensure public health conditions. In this article, Cereus jamacaru DC (popularly known as Mandacaru) was investigated as a biosorbent in the Pb2+ removal from aqueous solution using a two-level factorial design. The analysis of variance suggested a significant and predictive model (R2 = 0.9037). The maximum efficacy of Pb2+ removal in the experimental design was 97.26%, being the optimized conditions: pH 5.0, contact time 4â h without adding NaCl. The Mandacaru was divided into three types according to the plant structure and this parameter did not present a significant interference in the biosorption process. This result corroborates with slight differences in the total soluble proteins, carbohydrates and phenolic compounds found in the Mandacaru types investigated. FT-IR analysis revealed the presence of O-H, C-O and C = O groups that were responsible for the ion biosorption process. The optimized procedure was capable to remove 97.28% of the Pb2+ added in the Taborda river water sample. The kinetic adsorption results show the pseudo-second-order model, suggesting chemisorption process. Thus the treated water sample can be considered in accordance with technical standards issued by CONAMA Resolution Num. 430/2011 and Ordinance GM/MS Num.888/2021 of WHO. In this way, the Mandacaru proved to be an efficient, fast and easy-to-apply bioadsorbent in Pb2+ removal and has great environmental application potential.

BACKGROUND: Post-menopausal women have impaired cardiorespiratory responses to exercise compared to young women. Exercise training may counterbalance impairments, but the time-dependent effects of exercise training remain unclear. The current study aims to investigate the effects of rowing training on maximal aerobic capacity and time-course cardiorespiratory adaptations in older women. METHODS: Female participants (n = 23) were randomly allocated to the experimental group (EXP; n = 23; 66 ± 5 years old) enrolled in rowing exercise training and control group (CON; n = 10; 64 ± 4 years old). The cardiopulmonary exercise test (CET) was performed in a cycle ergometer pre- and post-interventions. Oxygen uptake (VO2), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), and HR were recorded during CET and analyzed at the peak of the exercise. HR was monitored during exercise recovery, and the index of HRR was calculated by ΔHRR (HRpeak-HR one-minute recovery). Every two weeks, Rowing Stepwise Exercise (RSE) in a rowing machine was performed to track specific adaptations to the exercise modality. HR was continuously recorded during RSE and corrected for the average power of each step (HR/watts). The rowing training protocol consisted of three weekly sessions of 30 min at an intensity corresponding to 60-80% of peak HR for ten weeks. RESULTS: Rowing exercise training increased VO2, SV, and CO at the peak of the CET, and ΔHRR. Increased workload (W) and reduced HR response to a greater achieved workload (HR/W) during RSE were observed after six weeks of training. CONCLUSIONS: Rowing exercise training is a feasible method to improve cardiorespiratory performance, vagal reactivation and heart rate adjustments to exercise in older women.

RESUMO Objetivo compreender a ótica dos enfermeiros sobre as barreiras enfrentadas pelas mulheres com deficiência física no que concerne à realização do exame citopatológico. Métodos estudo qualitativo, realizado com 11 enfermeiras das Unidades Básicas de Saúde, incluindo zona urbana e rural. O processamento e a análise dos dados utilizaram o software IRAMUTEQ - acrônimo de Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires. Resultados as classes 1 e 5 foram aglutinadas na classe "Inadequação da infraestrutura"; a classe 2 foi "Resultados dos exames coletados"; a 3, "Sentimentos na realização do exame"; e a 4, "Capacitação das equipes". Conclusão desvelaram-se sentimentos negativos vivenciados pelas mulheres na realização do exame, falta de capacitação dos profissionais, ausência de estratégias de manejo na unidade, e estrutura física inapta para as necessidades das usuárias. Contribuições para a prática comprovou-se a necessidade de atenção às mulheres com deficiência física e de realização do exame de rotina. Ademais, mostrou-se necessário fomentar estratégias para a adequação e melhoria dos conhecimentos dos profissionais que realizam os atendimentos.
ABSTRACT Objective to understand the perspective of nurses regarding the obstacles faced by physically disabled women in regard to cytopathological examinations. Methods qualitative study with 11 nurses from Basic Health Units, including urban and rural areas. Data was processed and analyzed using the software IRAMUTEQ (R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires). Results classes 1 and 5 were grouped into the class "Inadequate infrastructure"; class 2 was "Results of the collected exams"; class 3, "Feelings at the time of examination"; and 4 "Team training". Conclusion we revealed that women presented negative feelings during the examination, professionals lacked further training, there were no strategies to deal with the situation in the unit, and facilities were inadequate to attend the needs of the users. Contributions to practice: we demonstrated that it is essential to provide care to physically disabled women and carry out routine exams in this population. Furthermore, this study can give support to strategies to adapt and improve the knowledge of the workers who provide care.

Microalgae are autotrophs and CO2 fixers with great potential to produce biofuels in a sustainable way, however the high cost of biomass production is a challenge. Mixotrophic growth of microalgae has been presented as a great alternative to achieve economic sustainability. Thus, the present work reports the energetic characterization of S. platensis biomasses cultivated under autotrophic (A) and mixotrophic conditions using cheese whey waste at different concentrations, 2.5 (M2.5), 5.0 (M5) and 10.0% (M10), in order to analyze the potential production of valuable chemicals and bio-oil by TGA/DTG and Py-GC/MS. The biochemical compositions of the studied biomasses were different due to the influence of different culture mediums. As the whey concentration increased, there was an increase in the carbohydrate content and a decrease in the protein content, which influenced the elemental composition, calorific value, TGA and volatile compounds evaluated by Py-GC/MS at 450°C, 550°C and 650°C. Sample M10 had lower protein content and formed a smaller amount of nitrogenates compounds by pyrolysis at all temperatures evaluated. There was a reduction of 43.8% (450º), 45.6% (550ºC) and 23.8% (650ºC) in the formation of nitrogenates compounds in relation to sample A. Moreover, the temperature also showed a considerable effect in the formation of volatile compounds. The highest yields of nitrogenates compounds, phenols and aromatic and non-aromatic hydrocarbons were observed at 650ºC. The oxygenated, and N and O containing compounds decreased as the temperature increased. Hydrocarbons such as toluene, heptadecane and heneicosane were produced by S.platensis pyrolysis, which makes this biomass attractive for production of high quality bio-oil and valuable chemicals. Therefore, the results showed that it is possible to decrease the formation of nitrogen compounds via manipulation of growth conditions and temperature.

Resumo O desenvolvimento de novos medicamentos depende de etapas científicas que culminam nos ensaios clínicos em seres humanos. A farmácia de ensaios clínicos (FEC) é o local destinado ao recebimento, preparação, armazenamento e dispensação do produto investigacional (PI). Para tanto, deve possuir infraestrutura e procedimentos que garantam a segurança do participante e a qualidade da pesquisa. Este trabalho teve por objetivo sistematizar diretrizes para FEC no Brasil. Foi realizada uma revisão de escopo e as diretrizes foram organizadas utilizando o método de Ishikawa ("método 6Ms"). No total foram selecionadas 51 publicações, sendo 39 diretrizes e normas e 12 artigos científicos para cada "M"; 25 descreveram o ciclo de assistência farmacêutica (procedimentos para assegurar a segurança dos participantes, desde a requisição do produto até a destinação final), 14 indicadores de qualidade, 12 de recursos humanos, 11 de infraestrutura e recursos materiais e 5 descreveram PIs. para organização, funcionamento e avaliação de FEC no Brasil e corroboram a necessidade da presença do profissional farmacêutico no ciclo da assistência farmacêutica no contexto dos ensaios clínicos, contribuindo ainda na preparação para monitorias, auditorias e inspeções de agências regulatórias.
Abstract The development of new drugs depends on several scientific steps, which culminate in clinical trials. The clinical trials pharmacy (CTP) is the place for receiving, preparing, storing and dispensing the investigational product or study drug. Therefore, it must have infrastructure and procedures that guarantee participant safety and quality of research data. This study aimed to systematize guidelines for CTP in Brazil. We conducted a scope review and organized the results using the Ishikawa Method (6Ms). In total, 51 publications were selected for each "M", 39 laws, regulations or guidelines and 12 scientific articles: 25 publications for pharmaceutical services (pharmacy procedures to ensure participant safety from investigational product ordering to final disposition), 14 for Quality Indicators, 12 for Human Resources, 11 for Infrastructure, 11 for Material Resources and 5 for Investigational Product. Our results synthesize information for the organization, operation and evaluation of CTP in Brazil, emphasizes the inclusion of the pharmacist within the clinical trials context, and contributes to preparation for monitoring, auditing, and inspections conducted by regulatory agencies.

Our results synthesize information for the organization, operation and evaluation of CTP in Brazil, emphasizes the inclusion of the pharmacist within the clinical trials context, and contributes to preparation for monitoring, auditing, and inspections conducted by regulatory agencies.
O desenvolvimento de novos medicamentos depende de etapas científicas que culminam nos ensaios clínicos em seres humanos. A farmácia de ensaios clínicos (FEC) é o local destinado ao recebimento, preparação, armazenamento e dispensação do produto investigacional (PI). Para tanto, deve possuir infraestrutura e procedimentos que garantam a segurança do participante e a qualidade da pesquisa. Este trabalho teve por objetivo sistematizar diretrizes para FEC no Brasil. Foi realizada uma revisão de escopo e as diretrizes foram organizadas utilizando o método de Ishikawa ("método 6Ms"). No total foram selecionadas 51 publicações, sendo 39 diretrizes e normas e 12 artigos científicos para cada "M"; 25 descreveram o ciclo de assistência farmacêutica (procedimentos para assegurar a segurança dos participantes, desde a requisição do produto até a destinação final), 14 indicadores de qualidade, 12 de recursos humanos, 11 de infraestrutura e recursos materiais e 5 descreveram PIs. para organização, funcionamento e avaliação de FEC no Brasil e corroboram a necessidade da presença do profissional farmacêutico no ciclo da assistência farmacêutica no contexto dos ensaios clínicos, contribuindo ainda na preparação para monitorias, auditorias e inspeções de agências regulatórias.

Groundwater represents one of the largest safe drinking water sources worldwide; however, it has been threatened by increased human activities in recent years. Candida species express virulence factors that contribute to the establishment and worsening of infections, although little is known about the virulence profiles of these species in potable groundwater. The aim of this study was to detect the presence of yeasts in groundwater from residential wells and to evaluate the antifungal susceptibility profile, hydrolytic enzyme production, adhesion capacity, and biofilm formation of Candida spp. Fifty yeasts representing nine genera were isolated: Candida (48%), Meyerozyma (20%), Pichia (8%), Exophiala (8%), Clavispora (4%), Kodamaea (4%), Rhodotorula (4%), Hanseniaspora (2%), and Kazachstania (2%). Candida parapsilosis was the most commonly isolated species, and approximately 29% of the Candida isolates were resistant to at least one azole. All Candida isolates were able to produce hydrolytic enzymes and adhere to polystyrene, and most were classified as hydrophobic. Candida spp. can establish and form biofilms when cultivated in different media such as Sabouraud broth, water, and calcium hypochlorite. The use of contaminated groundwater for human consumption represents a possible route for the transmission of clinically relevant yeasts that can cause fungal infections, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Therefore, it is important to evaluate and establish effective measures for groundwater treatment to ensure the quality and safety for consumption.

The rapid development of multidrug-resistant pathogens against conventional antibiotics is a global public health problem. The irrational use of antibiotics has promoted therapeutic limitations against different infections, making research of new molecules that can be applied to treat infections necessary. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a class of promising antibiotic molecules as they present broad action spectrum, potent activity, and do not easily induce resistance. Several AMPs from scorpion venoms have been described as a potential source for the development of new drugs; however, some limitations to their application are also observed. Here, we describe strategies used in several approaches to optimize scorpion AMPs, addressing their primary sequence, biotechnological potential, and characteristics that should be considered when developing an AMP derived from scorpion venoms. In addition, this review may contribute towards improving the understanding of rationally designing new molecules, targeting functional AMPs that may have a therapeutic application.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Harpalyce brasiliana Benth (Leguminosae) is a shrub endemic to Brazil, popularly known as "snake's root." This species is used in folk medicine for the treatment of inflammation and snakebites. However, up to now there is no scientific research to justify its popular use. The study aimed to characterize the phytochemical profile of the hydroethanol extract from the roots of H. brasiliana (Hb), to evaluate its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential, as well as to investigate its cytotoxicity and acute toxicity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The extract was obtained by maceration method using a solution of ethanol:water (70: 30, v/v). The phytochemical profile was obtained by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The cytotoxicity of extract (31-2000 µg/mL) was evaluated in vitro, by the 3-methyl-[4-5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) method using murine macrophage and fibroblast cell lines (RAW 247.6 and 3T3, respectively) and by the hemolytic assay. For the in vivo acute toxicity, the extract (2000 mg/kg) was administered and after 14 days the weight (body and organs) and hematological and biochemical parameters were analyzed. Chemical free radical scavenging effect of the extract (125-2000 µg/mL) was investigated through diphenylpicryl hydrazine reduction, total antioxidant capacity, reducing power, hydroxyl radical scavenging, and iron and copper chelating assays. In vitro anti-inflammatory effect of the extract (125, 500, and 2000 µg/mL) was demonstrated through of nitric oxide (NO) analyzed in lipopolysaccharides stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. In vivo anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated in carrageenan-induced paw edema and zymosan-air-pouch models, with gavage administration (post-treatment) of extract at 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg. For the first animal model, the anti-edematogenic activity and myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels were investigated, while in the zymosan-air-pouch model the leukocyte number, MPO, total protein and pro-inflammatory cytokine (IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α) levels were quantified. In addition, the oxidative parameters such as malondialdehyde (MDA) and reduced glutathione (GSH) were determined. RESULTS: The phytochemical profile revealed the presence of 20 compounds, mainly prenylated and geranylated pterocarpans. The extract demonstrated no cytotoxicity in erythrocytes, macrophages and fibroblasts cells at the tested concentrations, as well as no sign of toxicity and mortality or significant alterations on the hematological and biochemical parameters in the acute toxicity model. The extract was also able to neutralize chemical free radicals, with copper and iron chelating effect. For the NO dosage, the extract evidenced the reduction of expression of NO after the administration of the extract (500 and 2000 µg/mL). The edematogenic model revealed a decrease in paw edema and MPO level, while the zymosan-air-pouch model evidenced a reduction of leukocyte number (especially of polymorphornuclears), MPO production, and total protein and cytokine levels, and demonstrated the antioxidant effect through a decrease in MDA and increase in GSH parameters. CONCLUSION: This approach demonstrates for the first time that Hb is not cytotoxic, has low acute toxicity, and possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in preclinical analyses, corroborating its popular use.

Background: Sarcopenia is related to morbidity and mortality in non-dialysis Chronic Kidney Disease (ND-CKD) patients; however, the pathophysiology of sarcopenia remains unclear. The study aimed to assess the prevalence and factors associated with sarcopenia in ND-CKD individuals. Methods: We cross-sectionally evaluated 139 prevalent ND-CKD patients attending our outpatient clinic at Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Pernambuco, between April and October 2019. Patients older than 18 years old and at G3-G5 CKD stages were included. Hand grip strength, Muscle Mass appendicular Index, and Gait Speed (GS) were defined by the standards of the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2 guideline. Results: Sarcopenia prevalence was 20.9% and severe sarcopenia 2.9%. Sarcopenic were mostly found in elderly ones (64.8 ± 13.5 years vs. 54.9 ± 12.8 years, p < 0.001), revealing lower body mass index [26.1 (6.8) vs. 28.6 (6.2), p = 0.023], lower phase angle (PhA) [4.50 (1.10) vs. 5.60 (1.20), p < 0.001] and lower GS [1.00 (0.50) vs. 1.40 (0.4), p < 0.001]. They also presented lower serum creatinine levels [2.40 (1.50) vs. 3.0 (1.8), p = 0.032], lower Albumin-to-Creatinine Ratio [72.60 (1008.30) vs. 342.30 (1172.1), p = 0.039] and Hemoglobin levels [11.45 (1.8) vs. 12.60 (2.40), p = 0.003], and higher levels of C-reactive protein [0.2 (0.80) vs. 0.03 (0.3), p = 0.045] compared to non-sarcopenic. Under Poisson Multivariate Model, PhA [Relative precision (RP): 0.364, Confidence Interval (CI) (95%):0.259-0.511, p < 0.001], Interleukin six (IL-6) [RP: 1.006, CI (95%):1.001-1.01, p = 0.02] and serum creatinine levels [RP: 0.788, CI (95%): 0.641-0.969, p = 0.024] were associated with sarcopenia. Conclusions: Sarcopenia predominance was identified in our ND-CKD population, and was associated with lower PhA values, higher IL-6 levels, and lower serum creatinine levels.

OBJETIVO: analisar as condições de trabalho dos profissionais de enfermagem no contexto de pandemia da Covid-19 em um hospital do interior de Mato Grosso. MÉTODO: estudo descritivo, transversal, de abordagem quantitativa com coleta de dados realizada por meio de um questionário onde a escala de Likert foi atribuída. Os dados foram obtidos no período entre novembro de 2020 a janeiro de 2021 e tabulados por meio do Microsoft Excel®. RESULTADOS: amostra composta por 50 profissionais de enfermagem. A maioria dos participantes 48 (96,00%) realizaram atendimento direto aos casos de COVID-19 e asseguram ter recebido equipamentos de paramentação individual para assistência. Em relação a capacitações, 41 (82,0%) afirmaram ter obtido no ambiente de trabalho e 42 (84,00%) profissionais perceberam alterações no labor decorrente da situação pandêmica. CONCLUSÃO: os participantes reconhecem que houve alterações na rotina laboral decorrente da pandemia da Covid-19, potencializando os desgastes físicos e mentais associados ao trabalho.
OBJECTIVE: to analyze the working conditions of nursing professionals in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic in a hospital in the interior of Mato Grosso State. METHOD: descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study with data collection performed through a questionnaire using the Likert scale. Data were obtained between November 2020 and January 2021 and tabulated on Microsoft Excel®. RESULTS: sample composed of 50 nursing professionals. The majority of the participants 48 (96.00%) performed direct care to Covid-19 patients and ensured they had received individual PPE equipment. Regarding training, 41 (82.0%) stated that they had obtained training in the work environment and 42 (84.00%) professionals noticed changes in work due to the pandemic situation. CONCLUSION: the participants recognized that there were changes in the work routine resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, potentiating the physical and mental strain associated with work.

Ocotea minarum (Nees & Mart.) Mez., a native species of Brazil, is used in the treatment of infections and oxidative stress; however, there is no scientific evidence of its toxicological characteristics. We assessed the cytotoxicity, mutagenic activity, and acute oral toxicity of the aqueous extract isolated from O. minarum leaves. The cytotoxicity of this extract was evaluated in tumour and non-tumour cell lines, while the Ames test with a Salmonella Typhimurium was used to determine the mutagenic activity. Wistar rats received a single 2 g/kg dose as part of an LD50 toxicity assessment. Our results showed that the aqueous extract of O. minarum leaves did not present cytotoxic and mutagenic properties and was not toxic, with an LD50 greater than 2 g/kg. Therefore, the O. minarum extracts are pharmacologically safe and can continue to be investigated for the development of new drugs and herbal medicines.
