RESUMEN

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used in human and veterinary medicine because of their analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties, however, they are drugs frequently involved in small animal intoxications. Although its use is safe in dogs, there is a risk of promoting renal and gastrointestinal toxicity, and some authors have observed in this species digestive lesions with clinical manifestations that are noteworthy after the use of non-selective COX-2 NSAIDs, such as ketoprofen. Thus, the objective of this work is to report a case of ketoprofen intoxication in dogs.

RESUMEN

Ivermectin is an anti-parasite medication widely used in Veterinary Medicine.Nevertheless, factors such as its easy acquisition and incorrect administration by petowners can lead to poisoning. This study reports a clinical case of a Maltese dogintoxicated by ivermectin. A 4-years-old male Maltese dog, weighging 3,05kg was referredto the Veterinary Hospital of the State University of Ceará, presenting incoordination, oliguria, sialorrhea, mydriasis and involuntary muscle spasms after 48 hours afterinnapropiate adsministration of a ivermectin. On physical examination, hypothermia, hypermetria and hyperesthesia were observed. Full blood count and biochemical profilewere requested. Supportive treatment with lactated Ringers solution fluid therapy, vitaminB complex and patient warming was conducted. The animal showed a significant clinicalimprovement and total recovered a week later.(AU)

Its diagnosis is based on clinical signs, cytologicalexamination, but confirmation is given by histopathology. The prognosis and treatment of choice is surgicalexcision with wide safety margin, however other methods of treatment can be used as cryosurgery, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and chemotherapy. A specimen of coati, female belonging to the collectionof Parque Zoobotânico ¨Getúlio Vargas” - Salvador Zoo was admitted to the medical and quarantinesector of institution, presenting five ulcerative lesions on the back, firm to the touch, moist and crustyaround the edges, non-scarring and about 2 cm diameter. It was initially established clinical treatmentwith antibiotics and anti-inflammatory topical and systemic, but after 9 days of treatment, no significantimprovements was observed, and therefore the animal was sent to surgical exeresis of lesions for histopathological evaluation and referral. We carried out surgical excision of lesions with 2 cm margin ofsafety, and to the laboratory for histopathological analysis. According to the macroscopic and microscopicfounding fibrosarcoma was diagnosed with moderate degree of differentiation. The surgical excisionwas effective in our case, because the animal responded well to post surgery and had no recurrence 30months after surgery. According to the consulted literature, this seems to be a first case report of cutaneousfibrosarcoma with moderate degree of differentiation in coati.(AU)
