The objective of this study was to instrumentalize the TC support instance by identifying the functional requirements of a proposed technological platform. Based on Design Science Research, the study is framed as qualitative research seeking to solve a practical problem in a specific context. Through a confirmatory focus group with professionals and researchers from a health science and technology institute, 11 categories of functional requirements were identified: Regulatory Bodies, Implementation Infrastructure, Database, Capacity Building, KT Events, Query Profile, KT Portal, Initiative Evaluation, Institutional Support, Parameterized Search Tool, and Research Project Prospecting. The modeling of the proposal contemplated the suggestions of functionalities to instrumentalize the process of the practical application of the knowledge resulting from the research

RESUMEN

The nature of the area of mathematical competitions as a design science is considered, historical roots of mathematical problem-solving competitions are traced, the complementary aspects of mathematics as theory building and as problem solving are touched upon in relation to the practice of competitions. Two historical figures, Euler and Erdos, emerge, and the appropriateness of many of Euler's mathematical ventures are seen as role models for competition mathematics as first put into practice in mathematical competitions towards the end of the nineteenth century. Distinctions and definitions are made, a venture into identifying competition syllabi and the principal types of reasoning employed in solving competition problems is explored, and a description of the many different types of competitions is considered. Interaction between the field of mathematics itself and problem-solving competitions is briefly explored, as are the possibilities that open when competitions and their access to huge amounts of data, both national and international, are taken into account in research belonging to mathematics education. Finally, the range of topics addressed in this special issue of ZDM is covered, along with some possible conclusions relating to the components of the overview.

RESUMEN

The increasing use of, and dependence on, Information Technology (IT) to support operational teaching, research, and management activities in Higher Education Institutions (HEI)-mainly due to their multi-unit organizational structure-have evidenced the need of encouraging managers to focus more on IT Governance (ITG) effectiveness, which has been an issue for many of these institutions. In this sense, we aim to develop a specific ITG model for Higher Education Institutions, by following the methodological principles of Design Science Research (DSR). The model was developed based on a robust theoretical basis that took into account different approaches substantiated by both the alignment of good practices and ITG focus areas as well as addressing the current ITG context of the Brazilian higher education institutions. The validation of the ITG model was based on its presentation to members of the IT Steering Committee of a Brazilian HEI, who confirmed its usefulness and applicability.

ABSTRACT Background: student scientific activity is a fundamental element in the organization of the teaching-learning process. Objective: to describe the results achieved in the student scientific activity at Ciego de Ávila University of Medical Sciences from 2016 to 2020. Methods: a descriptive and cross-sectional observational study was carried out at the University of Medical Sciences of Ciego de Ávila from 2016-2020. Theoretical and empirical methods were used. The constitutive documents of the Student Scientific Group and the scientific programs of the student´s events (provincial and national) and those convened by Scientific Health Societies were consulted, where work carried out by students or with their participation were recorded. The reports containing the winners were also reviewed. Results: in the period studied, 1,165 works were enrolled in events at the provincial level. In national events, a total of 100 awards were obtained, 23 of them in the national student scientific forum of medical sciences. Three recognitions were awarded by national authorities to three students of the institution for their scientific activity developed and a prize was obtained in the National Annual Health Prize Competition in the newly incorporated student category. The student scientific journal Ciencimed was created. Conclusions: at Ciego de Ávila University of Medical Sciences important results have been achieved in the joint work between scientific groups and the institution for the development of student scientific activity. However, work should be done to expand the representativeness of each degree.

RESUMEN

The aim of this article is to present an artifact for evaluating the quality and performance of service providers in the field of health care: the UNIPLUS Program. To verify the scientific nature of the artifact and ensure that it meets the criteria set by the community and the environment, the premises of Design Science Research (DSR) were used. As this research field lacks empirical evidence, the artifact was tested from 2013 to 2015 with 25 health care service providers from different categories, with an emphasis on hospitals and clinics located in 7 cities in the south of Brazil. This article makes 3 main contributions to the field: (1) the artifact can be applied to any health insurance operator in Brazil and other countries, as it meets the legal norms and requirements established by current legislation; (2) it helps health service providers by generating information that identifies shortfalls and possibilities for improvement for every aspect analyzed in the evaluation process; and (3) it uses the DSR methodology in an evaluation artifact that evaluates the quality and performance of services in the field of health care. The artifact proved to be adequate for the purpose in question, helping to improve the quality of care and institutional performance.
