OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the effect of a combination of functional exercise and psychological interventions on postoperative rehabilitation and intervention compliance in patients with breast cancer (BC). METHODS: This study involved 100 patients with BC who underwent a radical mastectomy in our hospital between April 2020 and April 2021. We assigned patients to a control group (with a functional exercise intervention for patients) and an observation group (where patients received psychological interventions based on functional exercise) using a random number table. We observed and recorded the general data, intervention compliance, range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder joint pre and postintervention, pre and postintervention quality of life scores, and anxiety and depression scores before and after the interventions. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in general data between the 2 groups (P > .05). Repeated measures analysis showed no preintervention differences in compliance, shoulder ROM, quality of life, or anxiety and depression scores (P > .05). Postintervention, compliance and shoulder ROM improved in both groups, with the observation group significantly outperforming the control group (P < .05). Quality of life scores improved significantly in both groups, with higher scores in the observation group at 1 and 3 months (P < .05). Anxiety and depression scores decreased in both groups, with the observation group showing lower scores than the control group (P < .05). CONCLUSION: Combining functional exercise with psychological interventions improves treatment compliance, psychological status, postoperative shoulder ROM, and quality of life in breast cancer patients.

We report herein a three-component radical arylalkylation of [1.1.1]propellane toward the synthesis of aryl-substituted bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane derivatives. The use of electron-deficient aryl cyanide as an aryl group source not only reduces the energy barrier of the arylation of the nucleophilic alkyl radical species, but also suppresses the electrophilic Friedel-Crafts alkylation process, enabling the present site-selective arylalkylation.

RESUMO

We describe herein a novel stereoselective trans-iodoalkylation protocol by using three components of nucleophilic dicarbonyl compounds, iodoform and terminal alkynes. The generation of tertiary carbon radical species under mild reaction conditions allows this radical addition and stereoselective iodine atom transfer sequence with terminal alkyne to access highly synthetic applicable disubstituted vinyl iodide. The synthetic application of the present three-component photochemical protocol was demonstrated by the gram-scale reaction and product derivatization.

Described herein is a novel visible-light-promoted three-component radical iodo-alkylative cyclization of alkynes using iodoform as a bifunctional iodine atom source. Visible-light irradiation of a polar-polar interaction complex of iodoform with malonate enables the cooperative hydrogen atom transfer process to generate alkyl radical and trigger a cascade reaction sequence.

Peanut is an economically important crop, but it is susceptible to Cr contamination. In this study, we used peanut as experimental material to investigate the effects of exogenous P, Se interacting with Cr on the nutrient growth and antioxidant system of peanut seedlings by simulating Cr (0 µM, 50 µM, and 100 µM) stress environment. The results showed that exogenous P, Se supply could mitigate irreversible damage to peanut seedlings by altering the distribution of Cr in roots and aboveground, changing root conformation, and repairing damaged cells to promote growth. When the Cr concentration is 100 µM, it exhibits the highest toxicity. Compared to the control group P and Se (0 MM), the treatment with simultaneous addition of P + Se (0.5 + 6.0) resulted in a significant increase in root length and root tip number by 248.7% and 127.4%, respectively. Additionally, there was a 46.9% increase in chlorophyll content, a 190.2% increase in total surface area of the seedlings, and a respective increase of 149.1% and 180.3% in soluble protein content in the shoot and roots. In addition, by restricting the absorption of Cr and reducing the synthesis of superoxide dismutase SOD (Superoxide dismutase), CAT (Catalase), POD (Peroxidase), and MDA (Malonaldehyde), it effectively alleviates the oxidative stress on the antioxidant system. Therefore, the exogenous addition of P (0.5 MM) and Se (6.0 MM) prevented the optimal concentration of chromium toxicity to peanuts. Our research provides strong evidence that the exogenous combination of P and Se reduces the risk of peanut poisoning by Cr, while also exploring the optimal concentration of exogenous P and Se under laboratory conditions, providing a basis for further field experiments.

In this study, the active food packaging film were prepared using hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan with different substitution sites (O-HACC & N-HACC) and dialdehyde chitosan (DCS) grafted with protocatechuic acid (PA). To explore the effect of chitosan quaternization positions and crosslinking approaches on the slow-release and antibacterial properties, the double-crosslinked film were fabricated through the self-coupling reaction of PA and Schiff base reaction between amino groups on HACC and aldehyde groups on DCS. The HACC/DCS-based film exhibited stable porous three-dimensional networks with high nisin loading ratios (>90 %). With the participation of the catechol-catechol structure, the dense double-crosslinked film effectively restricted the diffusion of the water molecules, resulting in excellent slow-release properties fitting with the Korsmeyer-Peppas kinetic model. Especially, O-HACC/PA-g-DCS film, which had more reaction sites for Schiff base crosslinking than N-HACC, exhibited the equilibrium swelling ratio of 800 % at 60 h and could sustainably release nisin via non-Fickian diffusion behavior until 48 h. Moreover, the HACC/DCS-based double-crosslinked film performed good long-time antibacterial activity and preservation effects on salmon. On the 10th day of storage, the TVBN of N-HACC/PA-g-DCS and O-HACC/PA-g-DCS groups were only 28.26 ± 1.93 and 29.06 ± 1.68 mg/100 g and still lower than the thresholds.

A Gram-stain-negative, light khaki, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped, motile via multiple flagella, and catalase- and oxidase-positive bacterium, designated as SSM4.3T, was isolated from the seaweed of Gouqi Island in the East China Sea. The novel isolate grows at 0-5.0% NaCl concentrations (w/v) (optimum 1%), pH 5.0-9.0 (optimum pH 7.0), and 15-37 °C (optimum 30 °C). The 16S rRNA gene sequences-based phylogeny indicates that the novel marine isolate belongs to the family Rhizobiaceae and that it shared the greatest sequence similarity (98.9%) with Peteryoungia rhizophila CGMCC 1.15691T. This classification was also supported by phylogenetic analysis using core genes. The predominant fatty acids (≥ 10%) of the strain were identified as C18:1 ω7c/C18:1 ω6c. Q-10 was identified as the major isoprenoid quinone, with trace levels of Q-9 present. The major polar lipids were identified as diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol. The complete genome size of strain SSM4.3T is 4.39 Mb with a DNA G+C content of 61.3%. The average nucleotide identity, digital DNA-DNA hybridization, and average amino acid identity values between the genomes of strain SSM4.3T and its closely related representatives were 74.80-86.93%, 20.00-32.30%, and 70.30-91.52%, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis, grounded on the core genes, reveals the evolutionary relationship between SSM4.3T and other Peteryoungia strains. Pan-genomics analysis of 8 previously classified Peteryoungia species and SSM4.3T revealed their unique genetic features and functions. Overall, strain SSM4.3T was considered to be a new species of the Peteryoungia genus; the name Peteryoungia algae sp. nov. has been proposed, with type strain SSM4.3T (= LMG 32561 = MCCC 1K07170).

Ursolic acid has gradually attracted much attention due to its unique pharmacological activities and valuable market value in recent years. Currently, ursolic acid is mostly extracted from loquat leaves, but the plant extraction method has low yield and high cost, and chemical synthesis is not readily available, so the biosynthesis method provides a new source for ursolic acid. α-amyrin acts as the main precursor for the synthesis of ursolic acid, and its yield is positively correlated with ursolic acid yield. Oxidosqualene cyclase(OSC) belongs to a multigene family which can catalyze the common precursor 2,3-oxidosqualene to generate different types of triterpene backbones, and plays a decisive role in the synthesis of triterpenoids. However, there are fewer reported key genes catalyzing the synthesis of α-amyrin in medicinal plants, and the yield and proportion of α-amyrin in the catalyzed products have always been a focus of research. In this study, ItOSC2, MdOSC1, AaOSC2 and CrAS, four enzymes capable of catalyzing the production of α-amyrin from 2,3-oxidosqualene, were cloned from Iris tectorum, Malus domestica, Artemisia annua and Catharanthus roseus, subject to sequence alignment and phylogenetic tree analyses, and transformed into Saccharomyces cerevisiae as plasmids. After 7 days of fermentation, the yield and proportions of α-amyrin, ß-amyrin and ergosterol were measured. Finally, AaOSC2 with the best ability to catalyze the generation of α-amyrin was filtered out, providing a key gene element for the later construction of engineered yeast strains with high production of α-amyrin and ursolic acid.

3-dB couplers, which are commonly used in photonic integrated circuits for on-chip information processing, precision measurement, and quantum computing, face challenges in achieving robust performance due to their limited 3-dB bandwidths and sensitivity to fabrication errors. To address this, we introduce topological physics to nanophotonics, developing a framework for topological 3-dB couplers. These couplers exhibit broad working wavelength range and robustness against fabrication dimensional errors. By leveraging valley-Hall topology and mirror symmetry, the photonic-crystal-slab couplers achieve ideal 3-dB splitting characterized by a wavelength-insensitive scattering matrix. Tolerance analysis confirms the superiority on broad bandwidth of 48 nm and robust splitting against dimensional errors of 20 nm. We further propose a topological interferometer for on-chip distance measurement, which also exhibits robustness against dimensional errors. This extension of topological principles to the fields of interferometers, may open up new possibilities for constructing robust wavelength division multiplexing, temperature-drift-insensitive sensing, and optical coherence tomography applications.

Benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC) is a naturally active bacteriostatic substance and κ-carrageenan (KC) is a good film-forming substrate. In the present study, a nanoemulsion incorporating BITC was fabricated with a particle size of 224.1 nm and an encapsulation efficiency of 69.2 %. Subsequently, the acquired BITC nanoemulsion (BITC-NE) was incorporated into the KC-based film, and the light transmittance of the prepared composite films was lower than that of the pure KC film. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy revealed that BITC-NE was compatible with the KC matrix. BITC-NE incorporation enhanced the tensile strength of the KC-based films by 33.7 %, decreased the elongation at break by 33.8 %, decreased the water vapor permeability by 60.1 %, increased the maximum thermal degradation temperature by 48.8 %, and decreased the oxygen permeability by 42 % (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the composite films showed enhanced antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, and Pseudomonas fluorescens. The developed KC-based composite films were applied to wrap raw beef, which significantly delayed the increase in total viable count, total volatile base nitrogen content, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, and prolonged the shelf-life of the raw beef by up to 10 days. These results indicated that the composite films prepared by incorporating BITC nanoemulsions into KC matrices have great antimicrobial application potential.

A novel bacterium designated as SSA5.23T was isolated from seawater. Cells of SSA5.23T are Gram-stain-negative, short, rod-shaped, and exhibit motility via numerous peritrichous flagella. The strain could grow at temperatures ranging from 15 to 35 °C (optimum at 25 °C), in a salinity range of 0-5.0% (w/v) NaCl, and within a pH range of 6.0-9.0 (optimum at pH 7.0). The predominant cellular fatty acid of SSA5.23T was C18:1 ω7c/C18:1 ω6c, and the major respiratory quinones were Q-9 and Q-10. Diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphatidylglycerol were identified as the primary polar lipids. The complete genome (5.47 Mb) of SSA5.23T comprises of a circular chromosome of 3.64 Mb and three plasmids, specifically sized at 59.73 kb, 227.82 kb, and 1.54 Mb, respectively. Certain genes located on the plasmids play roles in denitrification, oxidative stress resistance, and osmotic tolerance, which likely contribute to the adaptability of this strain in marine conditions. Core-proteome average amino acid identity analysis effectively identified the strain's affiliation with the genus Affinirhizobium, showing the highest value (89.9%) with Affinirhizobium pseudoryzae DSM 19479T. This classification was further supported by the phylogenetic analysis of concatenated alignment of 170 single-copy orthologous proteins. When compared to related reference strains, SSA5.23T displayed an average nucleotide identity ranging from 74.9 to 80.3% and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values ranging from 19.9 to 23.9%. Our findings confirmed that strain SSA5.23T represents a novel species of the genus Affinirhizobium, for which the name Affinirhizobium gouqiense sp. nov. (type strain SSA5.23T = LMG 32560T = MCCC 1K07165T) was suggested.

The adsorption of Sb(V) and As(V) onto iron-loaded gasification slag composite material (Fe-GFS), as well as the possible mechanisms, was investigated. Batch experiments showed that in a single system, Fe-GFS sorbed As(V) to a greater extent than Sb(V) with the maximum adsorption capacity (pH 3.0) of 34.99 mg/g (0.47 mmol/g), while that of Sb(V) was 27.61 mg/g (0.23 mmol/g). In the composite system, the presence of low concentrations of Sb(V) reduced the adsorption efficiency of Fe-GFS for As(V), while the presence of high concentrations of Sb(V) actually promoted the adsorption of As(V). The presence of As(V) consistently inhibited the adsorption of Sb(V) by Fe-GFS. Compared to Fe-GFS, new peaks appeared in the FTIR spectra after adsorption, indicating the presence of Sb-O and As-O bonds on the surface after adsorption. XPS results showed that the adsorption of As(V) and Sb(V) led to a decrease in Fe-OH bonds, with a more significant decrease in Fe-OH bonds observed after the adsorption of As(V), indicating a stronger affinity of Fe-GFS for As(V) compared to Sb(V). Our results suggest that Fe-GFS is an efficient adsorbent with great potential for applications in water containing As(V) and Sb(V).

BACKGROUND: Neuronal ferroptosis is closely related to the disease of the nervous system, and the objective of the present study was to recognize and verify the potential ferroptosis-related genes to forecast the neurological outcome after cardiac arrest. METHODS: Cardiac Arrest-related microarray datasets GSE29540 and GSE92696 were downloaded from GEO and batch normalization of the expression data was performed using "sva" of the R package. GSE29540 was analyzed to identify DEGs. Venn diagram was applied to recognize ferroptosis-related DEGs from the DEGs. Subsequently, The Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis were performed, and PPI network was applied to screen hub genes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were adopted to determine the predictive value of the biomarkers, and the GSE92696 dataset was applied to further evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the biomarkers. We explore transcription factors and miRNAs associated with hub genes. The "CIBERSORT" package of R was utilized to analyse the proportion infiltrating immune cells. Finally, validated by a series of experiments at the cellular level. RESULTS: 112 overlapping ferroptosis-related DEGs were further obtained via intersecting these DEGs and ferroptosis-related genes. The GO and KEGG analysis demonstrate that ferroptosis-related DEGs are mainly involved in response to oxidative stress, ferroptosis, apoptosis, IL-17 signalling pathway, autophagy, toll-like receptor signalling pathway. The top 10 hub genes were selected, including HIF1A, MAPK3, PPARA, IL1B, PTGS2, RELA, TLR4, KEAP1, SREBF1, SIRT6. Only MAPK3 was upregulated in both GSE29540 and GAE92696. The AUC values of the MAPK3 are 0.654 and 0.850 in GSE29540 and GSE92696 respectively. The result of miRNAs associated with hub genes indicates that hsa-miR-214-3p and hsa-miR-483-5p can regulate the expression of MAPK3. MAPK3 was positively correlated with naive B cells, macrophages M0, activated dendritic cells and negatively correlated with activated CD4 memory T cells, CD8 T cells, and memory B cells. Compared to the OGD4/R24 group, the OGD4/R12 group had higher MAPK3 expression at both mRNA and protein levels and more severe ferroptosis. CONCLUSION: In summary, the MAPK3 ferroptosis-related gene could be used as a biomarker to predict the neurological outcome after cardiac arrest. Potential biological pathways provide novel insights into the pathogenesis of cardiac arrest.

Down-polyethylene film material has been introduced for the first time as an excellent non-frame sound absorber, showing a distinctively outstanding performance. It contains down fiber adjacent to each other without firm connection in between, forming a structure of elastic fiber network. The unique structure has broadband response to sound wave, showing non-synchronous vibration in low and middle frequency and synchronous vibration in middle and high frequency. The broadband resonance in middle and high frequency allows the structure to achieve complete sound absorption in resonance frequency band. Moreover, down-polyethylene film material possesses forced vibration, corresponding sound absorption coefficient has been obtained based on vibration theory. The down-film sound absorption material has the characteristics of light weight, soft, environment-friendly, and has excellent broadband sound absorption performance.

Heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) are the main carcinogens produced during thermal processing of protein-rich foods. In this paper, a composite aerogel (TOCNFCa) with a stabilized dual-network structure was prepared via a template for the in-situ synthesis of UiO-66 on cellulose for the adsorption of HAAs in food. The dual-network structure of TOCNFCa provides the composite aerogel with excellent wet strength, maintaining excellent compressive properties. With the in-situ grown UiO-66 content up to 71.89 wt%, the hierarchical porosity endowed TOCNFCa@UiO-66 with the ability to rapidly adsorb HAAs molecules with high capacity (1.44-5.82 µmol/g). Based on excellent thermal stability, adsorption capacity and anti-interference, TOCNFCa@UiO-66 achieved satisfactory recoveries of HAAs in the boiled marinade, which is faster and more economical than the conventional SPE method. Moreover, TOCNFCa@UiO-66 could maintain 84.55 % of the initial adsorption capacity after 5 times of reuse.

Heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs), arising as chemical derivatives during the high-temperature culinary treatment of proteinaceous comestibles, exhibit notable carcinogenic potential. In this paper, a composite aerogel (AGD-UiO-66) with high-capacity and fast adsorption of HAAs was made with anchoring defective UiO-66 (D-UiO-66) mediated by lauric acid on the backbone of cellulose nanofibers (CNF). AGD-UiO-66 with hierarchical porosity reduced the mass transfer efficiency for the adsorption of HAAs and achieved high adsorption amount (0.84-1.05 µmol/g) and fast adsorption (15 min). The isothermal adsorption model demonstrated that AGD-UiO-66 belonged to a multilayer adsorption mechanism for HAAs. Furthermore, AGD-UiO-66 was successfully used to adsorb 12 HAAs in different food (roasted beef, roasted pork, roasted salmon and marinade) with high recoveries of 94.65%-104.43%. The intrinsic potential of AGD-UiO-66 demonstrated that it could be widely applicable to the adsorption of HAAs in foods.

The dynamic change of redox conditions is a key factor in emission of elemental mercury (Hg0) from riparian soils. The objective of this study was to elucidate the influences of redox conditions on Hg0 emission from riparian soils. Soil suspension experiments were conducted to measure Hg0 emission from five Hg-contaminated soil samples in two redox conditions (i.e., treated with air or with N2). In four of the five samples, Hg0 emission was higher in air treatment than on N2 treatment. Remaining one soil, which has higher organic matter than other soils, showed no distinct difference in Hg0 production between air and N2 treatment. In soil suspensions subject to N2 treatment, the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and Fe2+ concentrations were 3.38- to 1.34-fold and 1.44- to 2.28-fold higher than those in air treatment, respectively. Positive correlations were also found between the DOC and Fe2+ (r = 0.911, p < 0.01) and Hg2+ (r = 0.815, p < 0.01) concentrations in soil solutions, suggesting Fe2+ formation led to the release of DOC, which bound to Hg2+ in the soil and, in turn, limited the availability of Hg2+ for reduction to Hg0 in N2 treatment. On the other hand, for remaining one soil, more Hg2+ might be adsorbed onto the DOM in the air treatment, resulted in the inhibition of Hg0 production in air treatment. These results imply that the organic matter is important to prevent Hg0 production by changing redox condition. Further study is needed to prove the role of organic matter in the production of Hg0.

The iron-modified coal gasification slag (Fe-CGS) material has excellent performance in purifying heavy-metal-contaminated water due to its good surface properties and adsorption capacities. However, it is unclear whether it can provide long-term simultaneous stabilization of Cd and As in composite-contaminated soils in extreme environments. This study investigated the long-term stabilization of Cd and As in acidic (JLG) and alkaline (QD) soils by simulating prolonged heavy rainfall with the addition of Fe-CGS. Multiple extraction methods were used to analyze the immobilization mechanisms of Cd and As in soil and their effects on bioavailability. The results indicate that the stabilization efficiency was related to the dosage of Fe-CGS. The concentrations of Cd and As in the JLG soil leachate were reduced by 77.6% (2.0 wt%) and 87.8% (1.0 wt%), respectively. Additionally, the availability of Cd and As decreased by 46.7% (2.0 wt%) and 53.0% (1.0 wt%), respectively. In the QD soil leachate, the concentration of Cd did not significantly change, while the concentration of As decreased by 92.3% (2.0 wt%). Furthermore, the availability of Cd and As decreased by 22.1% (2.0 wt%) and 40.2% (1.0 wt%), respectively. Continuous extraction revealed that Fe-CGS facilitated the conversion of unstable, acid-soluble Cd into oxidizable Cd and acid-soluble Cd. Additionally, it promoted the transformation of both non-specifically and specifically adsorbed As into amorphous iron oxide-bound and residual As. Fe-CGS effectively improved the soil pH, reduced the bioavailability of Cd and As, and blocked the migration of Cd and As under extreme rainfall leaching conditions. It also promoted the transformation of Cd and As into more stable forms, exhibiting satisfactory long-term stabilization performance for Cd and As.

Arsenic (As) is a widespread metalloid with well-known toxicity. To date, numerous studies have focused on individual level toxicity (e.g., growth and reproduction) of As to typical invertebrate springtails in soils, however, the molecular level toxicity and mechanism was poorly understood. Here, an integrated transcriptomics and metabolomics approach was used to reveal responses of Folsomia candida exposed to As(V) of 10 and 60 mg kg-1 at which the individual level endpoints were influenced. Transcriptomics identified 5349 and 4020 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in low and high concentration groups, respectively, and the most DEGs were down-regulated. Enrichment analysis showed that low and high concentrations of As(V) significantly inhibited chromatin/chromosome-related biological processes (chromatin/chromosome organization, nucleosome assembly and organization, etc.) in springtails. At high concentration treatment, structural constituent of cuticle, chitin metabolic process and peptidase activity (serine-type peptidase activity, endopeptidase activity, etc.) were inhibited or disturbed. Moreover, the apoptosis pathway was significantly induced. Metabolomics analysis identified 271 differential changed metabolites (DCMs) in springtails exposed to high concentration of As. Steroid hormone biosynthesis was the most significantly affected pathway. Several DCMs that related to chitin metabolism could further support above transcriptomic results. These findings further extended the knowledge of As toxic mechanisms to soil fauna and offer important information for the environmental risk assessment.

The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), a rice-specific pest, has risen to the top of the list of significant pathogens and insects in recent years. Host plant-mediated resistance is an efficient strategy for BPH control. Nonetheless, BPH resistance in rice cultivars has succumbed to the emergence of distinct virulent BPH populations. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a pivotal role in regulating plant-environment interactions; however, the mechanisms underlying their insect-resistant functions remain largely unexplored. In this study, we conducted an extensive genome-wide analysis using high-throughput sequencing to explore the response of rice circRNAs to BPH infestations. We identified a total of 186 circRNAs in IR56 rice across two distinct virulence groups: IR-IR56-BPH (referring to IR rice infested by IR56-BPH) and IR-TN1-BPH, along with a control group (IR-CK) without BPH infestation. Among them, 39 circRNAs were upregulated, and 43 circRNAs were downregulated in the comparison between IR-IR56-BPH and IR-CK. Furthermore, in comparison with IR-CK, 42 circRNAs exhibited upregulation in IR-TN1-BPH, while 42 circRNAs showed downregulation. The Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis revealed that the targets of differentially expressed circRNAs were considerably enriched in a multitude of biological processes closely linked to the response to BPH infestations. Furthermore, we assessed a total of 20 randomly selected circRNAs along with their corresponding expression levels. Moreover, we validated the regulatory impact of circRNAs on miRNAs and mRNAs. These findings have led us to construct a conceptual model that circRNA is associated with the defense regulatory network in rice, which is likely facilitated by the mediation of their parental genes and competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. This model contributes to the understanding of several extensively studied processes in rice-BPH interactions.
