RESUMO

Luminescent mono(pentafluorophenyl) cycloplatinated complexes [Pt(C^N-κC,N)(HC^N-κN)(C6F5)] [HC^N = Hthpy (2-(2-thienyl)pyridine) 2a, Hbt (2-phenylbenzothiazole) 2b, Hpq (2-phenylquinoline) 2c] have been prepared by CH activation of a HC^N ligand in the corresponding [Pt(HC^N-κN)2(C6F5)2] (1a, 1b, 1c) complexes. Complexes 2 evolve in DMSO solution into solvate complexes and we present here successful routes for the synthesis of [Pt(C^N)(C6F5)(DMSO)] (C^N = thpy 3a, bt 3b). They have been fully characterized (X-ray for 1a, 1c, 2b, 3a and 3b), their electronic absorption and emission properties have been investigated and DFT and TD-DFT calculations for 1a, 1c, 2b and 3a have been carried out. Complexes 3a, 3b and [Pt(ppy)(C6F5)(DMSO)] 4 (Hppy = 2-phenylpyridine) show remarkable stability in a mixed DMSO-cellular medium and their cytotoxicity towards the human lung tumor (A549) and bronchial epithelial non-tumorigenic (NL20) cell lines has been evaluated by MTS assays. Their cellular localization in A549 and NL20 human cells and in mouse embryonic fibroblasts obtained from lungs (LMEFs) has also been investigated by fluorescence microscopy.

RESUMO

The reaction of (NBu(4))(2)[Pt(C triple bond CPh)(4)] with Cd(ClO(4))(2).6H(2)O in a 1:1 molar ratio yields a white solid [PtCd(C triple bond CPh)(4)](n) 1 (75% yield) together with yellow crystals of a very unusual decanuclear platinum-cadmium cluster [Pt(4)Cd(6)(C triple bond CPh)(4)(mu-C triple bond CPh)(12)(mu(3)-OH)(4)] 2 in low yield. Slow diffusion of acetonic solutions of the starting materials under aerobic conditions only produces crystals of 2 which have been shown by an X-ray analysis to be composed of a big hexanuclear cation [Cd(6)(mu(3)-OH)(4)](8+) and four [Pt(C triple bond CPh)(4)](2-) anions, held together by Pt.Cd and pi.Cd acetylide interactions. On the other hand, treatment of the insoluble product 1 with 1 equiv of NBu(4)X yields tetranuclear mixed-metal soluble complexes (NBu(4))(2)[[Pt(mu-C triple bond CPh)(4)](2)(CdX)(2)] (X = Cl A, Br 3, CN 4), which contain two platinate fragments connected by two CdX units through Pt.Cd and mainly Cd.C(alpha) interactions. All complexes are strongly emissive in the solid state at room temperature.

Enhanced reactivity is shown by uncoordinated C identical withC bonds in the proximity of a metal in phosphanylacetylene complexes. cis-[Pt(C(6)F(5))(2)(thf)(2)] reacts with [M(C(6)F(5))(2)(PPh(2)C identical withCPh)(2)] (M=Pt, Pd) to form binuclear complexes containing the novel 2,3-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)-1,3-butadien-1-yl bridging ligand. Substitution of the solvent ligands with, for example, PPh(2)H (see picture) provides species that could be characterized by X-ray crystallography.

RESUMO

In this comparative study, we carried out liposuction on 20 patients randomly divided in two groups to find an alternative medication to epinephrine that would not result in secondary effects at the cardiovascular level but would offer a similar vasoconstricting capacity. Also, a variation of the wet technique is described that decreases blood loss secondary to liposuction. The area to undergo liposuction is infiltrated with a cannula of our own design. Epinephrine is not used as a vasoconstrictor but rather L-ornithine 8-vasopressin at a concentration of 0.01 IU/ml chilled saline. With this new technique, the amount of blood removed is minimal, even in the case of extraction of large volumes of fat.

RESUMO

Dynamic cardiomyoplasty is a technique for ventricular assistance indicated for the correction of left ventricle aneurysm and for cardiomyopathies in which heart transplantation is contraindicated. In this article, our first four patients to undergo cardiomyoplasty (from February 1991 until April 1992) with a left latissimus dorsi island flap, rotated into the thorax after a 3-week training period, are reviewed. Therapeutic indications were cardiomyopathy with contraindication for heart transplant in patients 1 and 4 and associated to surgery for left ventricle aneurysm for patients 2 and 3. Patient 1 died 4 months after surgery because of a cerebral embolism when he was at functional class II. The other three patients remain at functional class I, carrying out normal activities. All the data were evaluated with the paired t test. Ejection fraction values (obtained through echocardiography and scintigraphy studies) and maximum minute flow rate of blood (measured with an echo-Doppler) have increased significantly (p < 0.001, p < 0.05, and p < 0.01, respectively) after heart surgery. Clinical improvement has been found after cardiomyoplasty, which correlates with an increase in ejection fraction and maximum minute flow rate of blood.
