[Identification of fungi in tissues and cultures: the importance of argirophilic substances on its cellular walls]. / Identificación de hongos en tejidos y cultivos: importancia de sustancias argirófilas en su estructura.

An experimental development based on the combination of microwaves action with one of the methods of silver staining by Del Río Hortega is presented. Material from pathological tissues and culture of fungi were studied. Besides morphological studies, were considered the causes of reduction from ionic to metalic silver, some characteristics of the silver reagent and its relationship with histochemical constitution of cellular walls. It is pointed the rapidity in fungi demonstration, the satisfactory definition of affected tissues, the advantages of working with a stable reagent, the omission of carcinogenetic substances, the possibility of stain fungical structures in previously stained materials with anilinic techniques, and the extent of the method to cultured materials without necessity of previous formaldehidic fixation.

Microwave-enhanced of a method of silver impregnation applied in dermatohistopathology

Materials from normal and pathological tissues were studied. The stuff were fixed in 10 formalin and received a paraffined embedding. The impregnation was made with ammoniacal silver carbonate in a domestic microwave oven during twelve seconds at 375 w. As a result of this, a time shortage of the technique, the high degree of definition of the nuclear, cytoplasmatic and extracellular matrix (collagenus fibbers with an unsteady reticular representation) details and the easy visualization of mitosis was observed. Also, omitting the reduction, they were clearly evidenced the argirophilics granules (melanin pigment)

Asociación de paracoccidioidomicosis con lepra lepromatosa: presentación de un caso / Lepromatous leprosy associated with paracoccidioidomycosis: a case

Se describen los signos clínicos de paracoccidioidomicisis (PCM) y la lepra lepromatosa observados en un hombre de 58 años de edad, procedente de la zona endémica argentina de ambas patologías. El diagnóstico se confirmó por exámenes micológicos, bacteriológicos e histopatológicos y el paciente falleció sin haber podido comenzar el tratamiento. Este caso constituye la primera asociación de lepra y PCM observada por este equipo de trabajo, se destaca que en las publicaciones consultadas no se constató dicha coexistencia pese a la superposición de las endemias en Sud América

[Mixed tumors of the salivary and cutaneous glands. Studied by silver technics]. / Acerca de los denominados "tumores mixtos" de las glándulas salivales y cutáneas. Caracterización con técnicas argénticas.

The authors study salivary and cutaneous mixed tumors in a comparative way. They use silver impregnation techniques, specially those developed in spanish and argentine schools. As a result, they obtain a morphological richness using those techniques. One of these, specially Del Rio Hortega-Polak allow to document the preponderant role of the myoepithelial cells in the genesis of these tumors.
