RESUMO

The major challenges for Li-O2 batteries are sluggish reaction kinetics and large overpotentials due to the cathode passivation resulting from insulative and insoluble Li2 O2 . Here, a novel nanodot (ND)-modified electrolyte is designed by employing cobalt bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (Co(TFSI)2 ) as an electrolyte additive. The Co(TFSI)2 additive can react with discharge intermediate LiO2 and product Li2 O2 to form CoO NDs. The generated CoO NDs are well dispersed in electrolyte, which integrates both the high catalytic activity of solid catalyst and the good wettability of soluble catalyst. Under the catalytis of CoO NDs, Li2 O2 is produced and deposits on the cathode together with them. At the recharge process, these well dispersed CoO NDs help to decompose solid Li2 O2 at a lower overpotential. The Li-O2 cells with Co(TFSI)2 exhibit a long cycle life of 200 cycles at a current density of 200 mA g-1 under a cutoff capacity of 1000 mAh g-1 , as well as a superior reversibility associated with the Li2 O2 formation and decomposition. The study is expected to broaden the range of electrolyte additives and provide a new view to developing highly dispersed NDs-based catalysts for Li-O2 batteries.

RESUMO

Microscopic lasers represent a promising tool for the development of cutting-edge photonic devices thanks to their ability to enhance light-matter interaction at the microscale. In this work, we realize liquid microlasers with tunable emission by exploiting the self-formation of three-dimensional liquid droplets into a polymeric matrix driven by viscoelastic dewetting. We design a flexible device to be used as a smart photonic label which is detachable and reusable on various types of substrates such as paper or fabric. The innovative lasing emission mechanism proposed here is based on whispering gallery mode emission coupled to random lasing, the latter prompted by the inclusion of dielectric compounds into the active gain medium. The wide possibility of modulating the emission wavelength of the microlasers by acting on different parameters, such as the cavity size, type and volume fraction of the dielectrics, and gain medium, offers a multitude of spectroscopic encoding schemes for the realization of photonic barcodes and labels to be employed in anticounterfeiting applications and multiplexed bioassays.

RESUMO

Curriculum reform urges teachers to constantly reflect on existing identities and develop probably whole new identities. Yet, in the wake of the poststructuralist view of identity as a complex matter of the social and the individual, of discourse and practice, and of agency and structure, teacher identity is a process of arguing for themselves and hence ethical and political in nature. Drawing on Foucault's notion of ethical self-formation and its adoption by Clarke (2009a) "Diagram for Doing Identity Work" in teacher education research, this 2-year-long case study explores how two Chinese English-as-foreign-language (EFL) teachers engaged in identity work in a changing curricular landscape. The analysis of narrative frames and semistructured interviews reveals the relations between the relative stable and the evolving elements of teachers' identity work, and the essential role of teachers' ethical agency based on reflective and critical responsiveness to the contextual reality and the dynamic power relations during the reform. The findings argue for the importance of nourishing teachers' reflective identity work and ethical agency during the turbulence of educational change.

RESUMO

Chemical vapor deposition is a widely used material deposition technique. It commonly provides a uniform material flux to the substrate to cause uniform thin film growth. However, the ability to precisely adjust the local deposition rate would be highly preferable. This communication reports on a chemical vapor deposition method performed in a localized and programmable fashion by introducing an electrically charged and guided molecular flux. This allows for local adjustments of the deposition rate and three-dimensional shape by controlling the electric fields. Specifically, the precursor molecules are charged and then guided by arrays of electrodynamic funnels, which are created by a patterned dielectric layer, to predetermined deposition locations with a minimal spot size of 250 nm. Furthermore, nearest neighbor coupling is reported as a shaping method to cause the deposition of three-dimensional nanostructures. Additionally, the integration of individually addressable domain electrodes offers programmable charge dissipation to achieve an ON/OFF control. The described method is applicable to a wide variety of materials and precursors. Here, the localized and programmable deposition of three-dimensional copper oxide, chromium oxide, zinc oxide, and carbon nanowires is demonstrated.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Existing research shows that family members who suffer the loss of a loved one through suicide often experience self-blame and shame, and that this limits their grieving process. It can also lock them into stigmatized positions and the notion that either somebody or a dysfunctional family is to blame for the suicide. AIM: This article investigates from a narrative perspective how a theater play might counteract the stigma that surrounds suicide bereavement by contributing destigmatizing understandings of suicide. METHODS: A theater play was performed in a churchyard theater in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2019. Audience members were asked to write down their free reflections on a form distributed at the theater. In particular, they were asked to assess whether they found the play related to their own lives and, if so, how; and to describe what they had learned. Their written reflections [N = 41] were analyzed from a narrative methodological perspective to investigate their responses to the play. Three categories of audience member were identified from their responses: people with their own suicide bereavement experiences; people with similar but different experiences of stigmatized trauma; and people who did not report any experiences of suicide or stigmatized trauma. RESULTS: The suicide-bereaved generally reported familiarity with the thematic performed, in particular the "why question," the blame and shame responses and the silenced family communication. Most of these aspects were also shared by those affected by other types of stigmatized trauma. Respondents from all categories emphasized how they had learned that suicide is a desperate rather than a deliberated act, caused by overwhelming emotional pain or depression. Ultimately, suicide was perceived as an involuntary death caused by complex interacting factors linked to both inner vulnerabilities and stressful life events, for which no one was to blame. CONCLUSION: The results show that research-based theater isa time-limited and cost-effective method of introducing alternative meanings and identities to both individual mourners and the broader cultural context from which stigma originates, and how it can have destigmatizing effects on a stigmatized trauma such as suicide bereavement.

RESUMO

Abstract From the book Contribuciones a la fundamentación filosófica de la psicología y de las ciencias del espíritu,Edith Stein introduces intersubjectivity as a requirement for constituting the "I" and the "We". Accordingly, her definition of community enables us to understand conjugality in its constitutive aspects, highlighting it as one of the spaces of subjectivity formation, reminding us of themes like: self-formation, creativity, ethics, otherness, openness and individual and collective responsibility. The Stein's analyses, from the concept of person, also clarify that the formation process, specifically correlated to identifying and repeating intra-family and social models, is governed by the laws of sense and not limited to the psychological sphere, showing the possibility of self-configuration and reconfiguration of "oneself" and of conjugality.

Self-formation of colloidal oil droplets in water or water droplets in oil not only has been regarded as fascinating fundamental science but also has been utilized in an enormous number of applications in everyday life. However, the creation of three-dimensional (3D) architectures by a liquid droplet and an immiscible liquid interface has been less investigated than other applications. Here, we report interfacial energy-driven spontaneous self-formation of a 3D plasmonic optical structure at room temperature without an external force. Based on the densities and interfacial energies of two liquids, we simulated the spontaneous formation of a plasmonic optical structure when a water droplet containing metal ions meets an immiscible liquid polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) interface. At the interface, the metal ions in the droplet are automatically reduced to form an interfacial plasmonic layer as the liquid PDMS cures. The self-formation of both an optical cavity and integrated plasmonic nanostructure significantly enhances the fluorescence by a magnitude of 1000. Our findings will have a huge impact on the development of various photonic and plasmonic materials as well as metamaterials and devices.
