RESUMO

The removal of nitrogen via the ANAMMOX process is a promising green wastewater treatment technology, with numerous benefits. The incessant studies on the ANAMMOX process over the years due to its long start-up and high operational cost has positively influenced its technological advancement, even though at a rather slow pace. At the moment, relatively new ANAMMOX technologies are being developed with the goal of treating low carbon wastewater at low temperatures, tackling nitrite and nitrate accumulation and methane utilization from digestates while also recovering resources (phosphorus) in a sustainable manner. This review compares and contrasts the handful of ANAMMOX -based processes developed thus far with plausible solutions for addressing their respective bottlenecks hindering full-scale implementation. Ultimately, future prospects for advancing understanding of mechanisms and engineering application of ANAMMOX process are posited. As a whole, technological advances in process design and patents have greatly contributed to better understanding of the ANAMMOX process, which has greatly aided in the optimization and industrialization of the ANAMMOX process. This review is intended to provide researchers with an overview of the present state of research and technological development of the ANAMMOX process, thus serving as a guide for realizing energy autarkic future practical applications.

To better understand the migration behavior of plastic fragments in the environment, development of rapid non-destructive methods for in-situ identification and characterization of plastic fragments is necessary. However, most of the studies had focused only on colored plastic fragments, ignoring colorless plastic fragments and the effects of different environmental media (backgrounds), thus underestimating their abundance. To address this issue, the present study used near-infrared spectroscopy to compare the identification of colored and colorless plastic fragments based on partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), extreme gradient boost, support vector machine and random forest classifier. The effects of polymer color, type, thickness, and background on the plastic fragments classification were evaluated. PLS-DA presented the best and most stable outcome, with higher robustness and lower misclassification rate. All models frequently misinterpreted colorless plastic fragments and its background when the fragment thickness was less than 0.1mm. A two-stage modeling method, which first distinguishes the plastic types and then identifies colorless plastic fragments that had been misclassified as background, was proposed. The method presented an accuracy higher than 99% in different backgrounds. In summary, this study developed a novel method for rapid and synchronous identification of colored and colorless plastic fragments under complex environmental backgrounds.

Soil potassium is a crucial nutrient element necessary for crop growth, and its efficient measurement has become essential for developing rational fertilization plans and optimizing crop growth benefits. At present, data mining technology based on near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy analysis has proven to be a powerful tool for real-time monitoring of soil potassium content. However, as technology and instruments improve, the curse of the dimensionality problem also increases accordingly. Therefore, it is urgent to develop efficient variable selection methods suitable for NIR spectroscopy analysis techniques. In this study, we proposed a three-step progressive hybrid variable selection strategy, which fully leveraged the respective strengths of several high-performance variable selection methods. By sequentially equipping synergy interval partial least squares (SiPLS), the random forest variable importance measurement (RF(VIM)), and the improved mean impact value algorithm (IMIV) into a fusion framework, a soil important potassium variable selection method was proposed, termed as SiPLS-RF(VIM)-IMIV. Finally, the optimized variables were fitted into a partial least squares (PLS) model. Experimental results demonstrated that the PLS model embedded with the hybrid strategy effectively improved the prediction performance while reducing the model complexity. The RMSET and RT on the test set were 0.01181% and 0.88246, respectively, better than the RMSET and RT of the full spectrum PLS, SiPLS, and SiPLS-RF(VIM) methods. This study demonstrated that the hybrid strategy established based on the combination of NIR spectroscopy data and the SiPLS-RF(VIM)-IMIV method could quantitatively analyze soil potassium content levels and potentially solve other issues of data-driven soil dynamic monitoring.

Metabolomics is the study of low molecular weight biochemical molecules (typically <1500 Da) in a defined biological organism or system. In case of food systems, the term "food metabolomics" is often used. Food metabolomics has been widely explored and applied in various fields including food analysis, food intake, food traceability, and food safety. Food safety applications focusing on the identification of pathogen-specific biomarkers have been promising. This chapter describes a nontargeted metabolite profiling workflow using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for characterizing three globally important foodborne pathogens, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella enterica, from selective enrichment liquid culture media. The workflow involves a detailed description of food spiking experiments followed by procedures for the extraction of polar metabolites from media, the analysis of the extracts using GC-MS, and finally chemometric data analysis using univariate and multivariate statistical tools to identify potential pathogen-specific biomarkers.

INTRODUCTION: Intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) with electrons has revealed to have higher rates of ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) than external beam radiotherapy in updated large-scale, randomized controlled trials in 2021. This study details the oncological outcomes of IORT with electron beams using our strict IORT policies. We have found new and important observations regarding the location of recurrence. METHODS AND MATERIALS: This is a single institution registry of early-stage breast cancer patients who underwent lumpectomy and electron beam IORT with appropriate cone size. All patients met our pre-excision requirements. The primary endpoint was 5-year IBTR rate, with secondary endpoints being 5-year locoregional failure rate, 5-year distant metastasis rate, 5-year overall survival and, importantly, the failure patterns. RESULTS: Between January 2011 and December 2022, 124 patients were recruited. The median follow-up was 6.7 years. The 5-year IBTR rate was 1.87% (95% CI 0.47-7.29%), which is much lower than the ELIOT trial and comparable with other accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) techniques. The 5-year locoregional failure rate was 3.68% (95% CI 1.40-9.52%), and the 5-year distant metastasis rate was 0.88% (95% CI 0.13-6.12%), while the 5-year overall survival rate was 97.52% (95% CI 92.44-99.19%). Six patients experienced IBTR. All recurrences were in surgical area, occurring superficial to the tumor bed and within 1 cm of the skin dermis. This failure pattern is very unique and might be explained by our hypothesis of the non-irradiated area beneath the skin. CONCLUSIONS: IORT with electron beams with strict patient selection criteria and strict large cone size is still an acceptable treatment for select patients with early-stage breast cancer. However, our new findings support extreme caution in the non-irradiated area beneath the skin around the tumor cavity. Given the constraints of our sample size, these findings should be interpreted cautiously and warrant further investigation in larger, more comprehensive studies.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical performance of implant-assisted removable partial dentures (IARPD) with surveyed crowns, also known as implant-crown-retained removable partial dentures (ICRPDs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Electronic searches of MEDLINE/PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the Web of Science, and the Korea Citation Index were performed according to the established search terms for ICRPD. A literature search was conducted for studies published in English or Korean until September 2023, using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. RESULTS: A total of 216 journals were searched, and 31 eligible studies were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. One systematic review included five case reports of ICRPD. Nine retrospective studies evaluated implant survival/success rate, implant failure cases, marginal bone loss, periodontal status, clinical complications, and patient satisfaction. Twenty-one case reports published in Korea showed good prognoses. CONCLUSION: According to the findings of this systematic review, ICRPD has a reasonable survival/success rate, minimal bone loss, and high patient satisfaction.

BACKGROUND: This review aimed to investigate the surgical, functional, and oncological outcomes of transoral laser microsurgery supraglottic laryngectomy (TOLM-SGL) for cT1-T3 laryngeal cancers. METHODS: PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library were searched by two independent investigators for studies investigating the surgical, functional, and oncological outcomes of TOLM-SGL using the PRISMA statements. A bias analysis was carried out with MINORS. RESULTS: Twenty-four studies were included (937 patients), including 206 (25.9 %) cT1, 467 (58.7 %) cT2, and 123 (15.4 %) cT3 cases. Most patients were cN0 (63.9 %). The mean hospital stay of TOLM was 10.1 days. Aspiration (5.5 %), and bleeding (5.3 %) were the most prevalent complications. The laryngeal preservation rate was 93.7 %. Temporary tracheotomy was performed in 18.0 % of patients, with a mean time of decannulation of 6.8 days. A feeding tube was placed in 59.9 % of patients. The oral diet restarted after 6.4 days. Definitive gastrostomy was necessary in 2.4 % of cases. The 5-year OS and DFS were 70.1 % and 82.0 %, respectively. Distant metastasis, local, and regional recurrence occurred in 4.6 %, 11.6 %, and 5.1 % of patients. There was an important heterogeneity between studies for inclusion criteria, patient profiles, TOLM indications, and details of surgical, functional, and oncological outcomes. CONCLUSION: TOLM supraglottic laryngectomy is a safe, and effective procedure associated with adequate functional, surgical, and oncological outcomes. Future studies are needed to define the place of TOLM in advanced LSCC; the role and timing of concomitant bilateral neck dissection, the indications of tracheotomy and feeding tube.

Population dynamic and eco-evolutionary responses to environmental variation and change fundamentally depend on combinations of within- and among-cohort variation in the phenotypic expression of key life-history traits, and on corresponding variation in selection on those traits. Specifically, in partially migratory populations, spatio-seasonal dynamics depend on the degree of adaptive phenotypic expression of seasonal migration versus residence, where more individuals migrate when selection favours migration. Opportunity for adaptive (or, conversely, maladaptive) expression could be particularly substantial in early life, through the initial development of migration versus residence. However, within- and among-cohort dynamics of early-life migration, and of associated survival selection, have not been quantified in any system, preventing any inference on adaptive early-life expression. Such analyses have been precluded because data on seasonal movements and survival of sufficient young individuals, across multiple cohorts, have not been collected. We undertook extensive year-round field resightings of 9359 colour-ringed juvenile European shags Gulosus aristotelis from 11 successive cohorts in a partially migratory population. We fitted Bayesian multi-state capture-mark-recapture models to quantify early-life variation in migration versus residence and associated survival across short temporal occasions through each cohort's first year from fledging, thereby quantifying the degree of adaptive phenotypic expression of migration within and across years. All cohorts were substantially partially migratory, but the degree and timing of migration varied considerably within and among cohorts. Episodes of strong survival selection on migration versus residence occurred both on short timeframes within years, and cumulatively across entire first years, generating instances of instantaneous and cumulative net selection that would be obscured at coarser temporal resolutions. Further, the magnitude and direction of selection varied among years, generating strong fluctuating survival selection on early-life migration across cohorts, as rarely evidenced in nature. Yet, the degree of migration did not strongly covary with the direction of selection, indicating limited early-life adaptive phenotypic expression. These results reveal how dynamic early-life expression of and selection on a key life-history trait, seasonal migration, can emerge across seasonal, annual, and multi-year timeframes, yet be substantially decoupled. This restricts the potential for adaptive phenotypic, microevolutionary, and population dynamic responses to changing seasonal environments.

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders (SSDs), which are characterized by social cognitive deficits, have been associated with dysconnectivity in "unimodal" (e.g., visual, auditory) and "multimodal" (e.g., default-mode and frontoparietal) cortical networks. However, little is known regarding how such dysconnectivity relates to social and non-social cognition, and how such brain-behavioral relationships associate with clinical outcomes of SSDs. METHODS: We analyzed cognitive (non-social and social) measures and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data from the 'Social Processes Initiative in Neurobiology of the Schizophrenia(s) (SPINS)' study (247 stable participants with SSDs and 172 healthy controls, ages 18-55). We extracted gradients from parcellated connectomes and examined the association between the first 3 gradients and the cognitive measures using partial least squares correlation (PLSC). We then correlated the PLSC dimensions with functioning and symptoms in the SSDs group. RESULTS: The SSDs group showed significantly lower differentiation on all three gradients. The first PLSC dimension explained 68.53% (p<.001) of the covariance and showed a significant difference between SSDs and Controls (bootstrap p<.05). PLSC showed that all cognitive measures were associated with gradient scores of unimodal and multimodal networks (Gradient 1), auditory, sensorimotor, and visual networks (Gradient 2), and perceptual networks and striatum (Gradient 3), which were less differentiated in SSDs. Furthermore, the first dimension was positively correlated with negative symptoms and functioning in the SSDs group. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest a potential role of lower differentiation of brain networks in cognitive and functional impairments in SSDs.

BACKGROUND: Open partial nephrectomy (OPN) has previously been considered the gold standard procedure for treatment of T1 localized renal tumors. After introduction of robot assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) as an alternative method to OPN, OPN was gradually abandoned at our department. The aim of the study was to retrospectively compare the results of patients treated with either OPN or RAPN for suspected renal carcinoma. METHODS: Patients who underwent either open or robotic assisted partial nephrectomy between January 1st 2010 and December 31st 2020 were retrospectively included in the study. Each tumor subjected to surgery was scored preoperatively by the RENAL nephrometry score. Complications within 30 days were assessed according to the Clavien-Dindo classification system. RESULTS: A total of 197 patients who underwent partial nephrectomy were identified; 75 were subjected to OPN and 122 were treated with RAPN. There were no significant differences between the groups with respect to age (OPN: 63 years ± 11, RAPN: 62 years ± 10), gender (OPN: 71/29%, RAPN: 67/33%), body mass index (OPN: 28 ± 5, RAPN: 28 ± 5), ASA score (OPN: 2.4 ± 0.6, RAPN: 2.2 ± 0.5), or nephrometry score (OPN: 6.6 ± 1.7, RAPN: 6.9 ± 1.7, p = 0.2). The operative time was significantly shorter in the OPN group (81 min) compared to the RAPN group (144.5 min, p < 0.001). Mean perioperative blood loss was 227 ± 162 ml in the OPN group compared to 189 ± 152 ml in the RAPN group (p = 0.1). Mean length of stay was shorter in the RAPN group (3 days) compared to the OPN group (6, days, p < 0.001). Positive surgical margin rate was significantly higher in the OPN group (21.6%) compared to the RAPN group (4.2%, p < 0.001). There were no differences in the number of Clavien-Dindo graded complications between the groups (p = 0.6). CONCLUSIONS: The introduction of RAPN at our department resulted in shorter length of stay and fewer positive surgical margins, without increasing complications.

Glomus tumors are rare mesenchymal tumors involving cells from the glomus body, smooth muscle, and vasculature, typically found in distal extremities' skin. This case describes a 54-year-old woman with a history of hypothyroidism and hyperlipidemia, incidentally discovered to have a four-centimeter calcified renal tumor. Surgery was performed due to suspected malignancy. Immunohistochemical staining confirmed a renal glomus tumor, positive for muscle actin and smooth muscle actin (SMA). The tumor was benign, and no adjuvant therapy was needed. The patient remained recurrence-free during follow-up. Renal glomus tumors are predominantly benign, with surgical resection as the primary treatment.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to compare the deviation of hypermobile teeth in partially edentulous dental arches during impression taking using digital and conventional techniques. METHODS: A partially edentulous mandibular model with three target hypermobile teeth (including the left first premolar, #34; left second molar, #37; and right first premolar, #44), was used as the simulation model. After reference data were acquired using a desktop scanner, impressions of the simulation model were obtained using a digital intraoral scanner (IOS) and two conventional techniques (hydrocolloid material with a stock tray and silicone material with a custom tray as impression data (n=12/group). The three-dimensional accuracy (root mean square value) and two-dimensional accuracy (mesiodistal and buccolingual displacements) of the target teeth in each impression dataset were calculated based on the reference data. The comparison among three impression techniques was statistically performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test (α=0.05). RESULTS: For #34 and #44, the three- and two-dimensional accuracies of the impressions fabricated through data acquired through digital scanning (digital impression) were significantly superior to those of the hydrocolloid impression (P < 0.05), whereas no significant difference was found between the digital and silicone impressions. For #37, no significant difference in the accuracy of the impression data for the target teeth was observed among the three impression techniques. CONCLUSIONS: Digital impression acquiring using an IOS is recommended over using a conventional hydrocolloid impression to prevent the deviation of hypermobile teeth in partially edentulous dental arches. Hypermobile tooth deviation in digital impression data depends on the tooth location.

Many clinical trials involve partially clustered data, where some observations belong to a cluster and others can be considered independent. For example, neonatal trials may include infants from single or multiple births. Sample size and analysis methods for these trials have received limited attention. A simulation study was conducted to (1) assess whether existing power formulas based on generalized estimating equations (GEEs) provide an adequate approximation to the power achieved by mixed effects models, and (2) compare the performance of mixed models vs GEEs in estimating the effect of treatment on a continuous outcome. We considered clusters that exist prior to randomization with a maximum cluster size of 2, three methods of randomizing the clustered observations, and simulated datasets with uninformative cluster size and the sample size required to achieve 80% power according to GEE-based formulas with an independence or exchangeable working correlation structure. The empirical power of the mixed model approach was close to the nominal level when sample size was calculated using the exchangeable GEE formula, but was often too high when the sample size was based on the independence GEE formula. The independence GEE always converged and performed well in all scenarios. Performance of the exchangeable GEE and mixed model was also acceptable under cluster randomization, though under-coverage and inflated type I error rates could occur with other methods of randomization. Analysis of partially clustered trials using GEEs with an independence working correlation structure may be preferred to avoid the limitations of mixed models and exchangeable GEEs.

Although anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox) is considered a promising process due to its high efficiency and low energy in nitrogen removal, nitrite inadequacy was one of the bottlenecks for the application of anammox. However, endogenous partial denitrification (EPD) has been emerging as a stable pathway to provide nitrite for anammox. Furthermore, denitrifying glycogen-accumulating organisms (DGAOs) are believed to be associated with EPD. In this study, firstly, GAOs were gradually enriched in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with the dual strategy of influent phosphorus limitation and withdrawal after the anaerobic stage. DGAOs were successfully induced by adding sodium nitrate solution at the end of the anaerobic stage, resulting in NO3--N concentration increasing from 15 to 30 mg/L. During a typical SBR cycle, DGAOs contributed up to 96% of the conversion of intracellular carbon sources and up to around 95% of nitrate reduction during the anoxic stage. The maximum nitrate-to-nitrite transformation ratio (NTR) of the system reached 80%. Microbial community analysis demonstrated that the Ca. Compatibactors were the dominant functional bacteria for EPD, with a relative abundance of 31.12%. However, the relative abundance of phosphorous-accumulating organisms (PAOs) was only 1.02%. This study reveals the important role of DGAOs in the EPD process, which can provide a stable nitrite for anammox.

Partial great toe transfer is widely used in finger reconstruction. Although satisfactory results have been reported at the recipient's hand, the donor foot still presents with many problems due to the large amount of tissues harvested. In this study, the Ilizarov technique was utilized to enlarge the great toe in order to minimize the amount of tissue sacrificed of the donor foot. In this retrospective study, 23 patients (30 toes) underwent transverse distraction of the great toe for finger reconstruction from September 2020 to December 2022. The width of the contralateral normal finger was set as the objective width gained of distraction. At the last follow-up, the changes of bone, toenail, plantar skin, vessel, and nerve of the great toe were measured, and postoperative complications were assessed. The time for active distraction was 46.1 ± 8.3 days, with a widening rate of 0.41 ± 0.08 mm/day. Counting in the time for latency and consolidation, the time of treatment with external fixation was 84 ± 11.9 days. At the last follow-up, the average width of the distal phalanx of the great toe increased from 13.1 to 28.1 mm (p < 0.001). The width of the toenail increased from 15.8 to 30.3 mm (p < 0.001), and the width of the plantar pulp increased from 25.6 to 38.8 mm (p < 0.001). Computed tomography angiography (CTA) and Doppler ultrasound confirmed that the digital arteries and nerves of the great toe were intact after distraction surgery. Two patients needed revision surgery due to complications of pin loosening or premature consolidation. With the help of the Ilizarov technique, the great toe is effectively enlarged after transverse distraction. Multiple tissues of the great toe, including bone, nail, and plantar skin, are regenerated, and more tissues were preserved after toe-to-hand transfer. To the best of our knowledge, this is a novel method to enlarge the donor site for finger reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: A novel approach using single-fraction preoperative partial breast irradiation (PBI) for low-risk breast cancer is under study. We sought to investigate the rate of pathologic response (pR), toxicities and cosmetic results related to this new treatment strategy. METHODS: Women of 65 years or older with stage I unifocal luminal A breast cancer were eligible for inclusion in this phase I prospective trial. Patients received a single 20 Gy dose of PBI followed by breast-conserving surgery (BCS) 3 months later. The primary endpoint was the pR rate, and the secondary endpoints were radiation therapy-related toxicity and cosmetic results. RESULTS: Thirteen patients were treated, with a median age of 71. Eleven patients (84.6 %) had pR with a median residual cellularity of 1 % (range: 0-10 %). At median follow-up of 48.5 months, no recurrences or cancer-related deaths were recorded. Acute radiation therapy-related toxicity were limited to grade 1 dermatitis and breast pain. At the 1-year follow-up, there were one grade 2 fat necrosis and two grade 3 toxicities (wound infection and hematoma). Only grade 1 toxicities remained at 2 years, but one grade 2 toxicity (fibrosis/induration) developed by the 3-year follow-up. Three-year patient-reported cosmetic outcomes were good or excellent in 60 % of patients. CONCLUSIONS: Single-fraction preoperative PBI preceding BCS for low-risk breast cancer is feasible, relatively well tolerated and leads to a high level of pR. The 3-month interval after PBI seems to place surgery in a post-radiation inflammatory phase. Further delay between PBI and surgery could improve pR and cosmetic outcome. NCT03917498.

Discharge from psychiatric treatment has been established as an emotionally intense and vulnerable time for patients; however, to date no studies have investigated symptoms directly preceding discharge and the impact on post-discharge outcomes. Our primary aim was to assess the prevalence of elevations in depression and anxiety symptoms prior to discharge from a partial hospitalization program (PHP). Our secondary aim was to assess whether these pre-discharge elevations predict post-discharge outcomes. We analyzed daily depression and anxiety symptom severity from 4211 patients attending a PHP. Two subsamples (n = 113 and n = 70) completed post-discharge outcome measures of symptom severity, well-being, and/or functional impairment at two-weeks, one-month, and three-months post-discharge. Approximately two-thirds of patients demonstrated a significant increase in depression (p < .001) and anxiety (p < .001) symptom severity prior to discharge. These pre-discharge elevations did not significantly predict post-discharge measures when controlling for symptom severity at discharge. Our results suggest patients experience an increase in symptom severity preceding discharge, even after improvement; however, these elevations do not provide additional prognostic information. Clinicians may consider sharing these results with patients to normalize the experience of symptom elevation prior to discharge and highlight that it is not a prognostic indicator.

RESUMO

Breast conserving surgery followed by adjuvant radiation to reduce the risk of ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence is the mainstay of treatment for early-stage breast cancer (ESBC). However, improved understanding of the heterogeneity of the clinical and molecular characteristics of ESBC have led to greater efforts to personalize approaches to treatment. Further, advances in the understanding of the radiobiology of breast cancer have led to several practice-changing trials on the effectiveness and tolerability of moderate and ultra-hypofractionated radiation. Here, we review the recent evidence and ongoing research in the radiotherapeutic management of ESBC, including the use of boost for high-risk disease and opportunities for accelerated fractionation, partial breast irradiation, and radiation omission for low-risk disease. We also discuss how molecular profiling can inform decision-making and new opportunities for primary radiotherapy and reirradiation.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the current study was to assess the natural course of partial remission (PR) phase of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and to highlight the putative association between vitamin D receptor (VDR) (Fok1) gene polymorphism and PR phase. METHODS: Ninety participants with newly diagnosed T1D were followed up for a total of 12 months. The VDR (Fok1) rs2228570 gene polymorphism was genotyped using allelic discrimination (AD) assay. RESULTS: Fifty-four patients (60 %) reached PR with an average duration of 5.63 ± 2.9 months. Among remitters, the frequency of CC "FF" genotype and allelic frequency of C "F" were significantly higher (p<0.001). Furthermore, participants expressing "CC" genotype had earlier onset of PR and spent a significantly longer duration in remission (p<0.001). Younger age (p<0.001; OR 41.6; CI 12.12-142.99), absence of DKA (p<0.001; OR 16, CI 4.36-50.74), higher C-peptide levels (p<0.001; OR 19.55; CI 6.52-58.63), and presence of CC "FF" genotype of VDR (p<0.001; OR 6.74; CI 2.41-18.86) best predicted the overall occurrence of PR. CONCLUSIONS: Younger age, less extent of metabolic derangements, and expression of a CC "FF" genotype were found to influence the occurrence of PR. Data from the current study showed that the "C" allele could have a protective role on preserving residual ß-cell mass and could predict both onset and duration of PR among newly diagnosed T1D. These findings support the growing concept of future tailored precision medicine.
