ABSTRACT

A series of coumarin derivatives carrying different biologically active side chains and heterocyclic substituents were synthesized from 8-acetyl-4-methyl-7-hydroxycoumarin. Among these side chains are alkylamino, semicarbazono- and N[4]-substituted thiosemicarbazonoethyl, I-hydrazonoethyl and substituted I-hydroximinoethyl groups, while heterocyclic substituents were derived from pyran, oxadiazole, thiadiazole and thiazolidinone rings. Also, some derivatives of pyrano [2,3-h]chromen-9-carbaldehyde were synthesized. Some of these new products were studied for their chemoprophylactic effect in Schistosoma mansoni infected mice

ABSTRACT

The tolerance and efficacy of triclabendazole CGP 23030, specially prepared for human use, were assessed in 50 patients in the chronic phase of fascioliasis. After clinical examination, investigation and ultrasonography of the liver and biliary system, triclabendazole 10 mg/kg, either as a single or split dose, was administered. The clinical picture was studied daily for six days and the investigations were repeated 6, 30 and 60 days after treatment. The drug was tolerated. Its side-effects, which included upper abdominal pain, mild fever and limited derangement of liver function, were considered negligible. The cure rate at 2 months was 94% when assessed by the disappearance of eggs in stools and 88% when assessed by both the absence of eggs in stools and of worms in the biliary system. The use of triclabendazole for the treatment of human fascioliasis was found to be justified

ABSTRACT

Lymnaea snails in Abis II Village were studied as regard to their species, monthly distribution, density and infection rates in different water bodies. The trematode parasites in L. cailliaudi, the only species of Lymnaea in Abis II Village were Xiphidio in 40% of snails and Fasciola in 10%. Echinostome cercariae were detected from few snails outside Abis II Village. The morphological characters of the different larval stages of the detected parasites were described

ABSTRACT

It has been reported that alpha, Beta-unsaturated ketones react with nucleophiles to give under different conditions either the open chain addition products or a new heterocyclic system by normal addition followed by cyclization. In the present investigation the authors introduce N-aryl-2-pyridone heterocyclic ring to investigate to what extent the a 6-unsaturated system can be affected by replacement that pyridone ring and to emphasize the general concept that the carbonyl group in alpha, Beta-unsaturated moiety is still kinetically reactive even if it is present together with the electrical localized carbonyl which inhibits the proton tautomeric effect by N-phenyl replacement

ABSTRACT

Reaction of Beta-9-anthroylacrylic acid [I] with benzene under Fried el-Crafts conditions gave the corresponding alpha-phenyl-Beta-9-anthroyl propionic acid [II]. Dehydration of II with Ac2O gave the butenolide III which reacts with amines to give anilides. IV. Condensation of II with hydrazines gave the corresponding hydrazones V and pyridazinone derivatives VI, and with hydroxyl-amine hydrochloride to give oxime VIII and dihydroxazinone derivative IX. Estrification of II using methanol and dry HC1 gave the methyl ester X. Reaction of X with hydrazines has been investigated

ABSTRACT

Several 2-[2-[p-chlorobenzoyl] vinyl] -4H-3, l-quinazolin-4-one derivatives have been synthesized by the reaction of 2-[2-p-chlo-robenzoyl] vinyl]-4H-3,l-benzoxazin-4-one with amino compounds. The action of hydrazines, hydroxylamine hydrochloride, urea, thiourea, and P2S5 have been also investigated
