ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the value of Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA), Simplified Acute Physiology Score Ⅱ (SAPS-Ⅱ), Oxford Acute Severity of Illness Score (OASIS) and Logistic Organ Dysfunction System (LODS) scoring systems for predicting ICU mortality in patients with sepsis.@*METHODS@#We collected the data of a total of 2470 cases of sepsis recorded in the MIMIC-III database from 2001 to 2012 and retrieved the scores of SOFA, SAPS-Ⅱ, OASIS and LODS of the patients within the first day of ICU admission. We compared with the score between the survivors and the non-survivors and analyzed the differences in the area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the 4 scoring systems. Binomial logistic regression was performed to compare the predictive value of the 4 scoring systems for ICU mortality of the patients.@*RESULTS@#In the 2470 patients with sepsis, 1966 (79.6%) survived and 504 (20.4%) died in the ICU. Compared with the survivors, the non-survivors had a significantly older mean age, higher proportion of patients receiving mechanical ventilation, and higher initial lactate level, creatinine, urea nitrogen, SOFA score, SAPS-Ⅱ score, OASIS score and LODS score ( < 0.05) but with significantly lower body weight and platelet counts ( < 0.05). The AUCs of the SOFA score, SAPS-Ⅱ score, OASIS score, and LODS score were 0.729 ( < 0.001), 0.768 ( < 0.001), 0.757 ( < 0.001), and 0.739 ( < 0.001), respectively. The AUC of SAPS-Ⅱ score was significantly higher than those of SOFA score (=3.679, < 0.001) and LODS score (=3.698, < 0.001) but was comparable with that of OASIS score (=1.102, =0.271); the AUC of OASIS score was significantly higher than that of LODS score (=2.172, =0.030) and comparable with that of SOFA score (=1.709, =0.088). For predicting ICU mortality in patients without septic shock, the AUC of SAPS-Ⅱ score was 0.769 (0.743-0.793), the highest among the 4 scoring systems; in patients with septic shock, the AUCs SAPS-Ⅱ score and OASIS score, 0.768 (0.745-0.791) and 0.762 (0.738-0.785), respectively, were significantly higher than those of the other two scoring systems. Binomial logistic regression showed the corrected SOFA, SAPS-Ⅱ, and OASIS scores, but not LODS scores, were significantly correlated with ICU mortality in patients with sepsis, and their ORs were 1.08 (95% CI: 1.03-1.14, =0.001), 1.04 (95% CI: 1.02-1.05, < 0.001), 1.04 (95% CI: 1.01-1.06, =0.001), 0.96 (95% CI: 0.89-1.04, =0.350), respectively.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The scores of SOFA, SAPS-Ⅱ, OASIS, and LODS can predict ICU mortality in patients with sepsis, but SAPS-Ⅱ and OASIS scores have better predictive value than SOFA and LODS scores.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper was to explore the mechanism of Shenxiong Glucose Injection antagonizing apoptosis of H9 c2 cells induced by H_2O_2. H9 c2 cells were pretreated with 1. 7%,3. 4% and 6. 8% Shenxiong Glucose Injection,and then H_2O_2 was introduced to induce apoptosis in vitro. Cell viability was detected by MTS assay,morphological changes of apoptosis were observed by AO/EB fluorescence staining,apoptosis rate was detected by Annexin/PI method,cell expression profile was detected by gene chip technology,the mRNA of PIK3 CA,Bcl-2,Bax,caspase-3 and GAPDH were detected by qRT-PCR,the protein expression levels of PIK3 CA,AKT,P-AKT,Bcl-2,Bax and caspase-3 were detected by Western blot,and the contents of LDH and MDA were detected by kit. The results showed that Shenxiong Glucose Injection of different concentrations significantly increased the viability of H9 c2 cells treated with H_2O_2( P<0. 01),and reversed H_2O_2-induced apoptosis( P< 0. 01). The microarray experiments showed that 138 genes were altered in H9 c2 cells after treatment with Shenxiong Glucose Injection. The differential expression fold of PIK3 CA associated with PI3 K/AKT pathway was 3. 59. The results of qRT-PCR and Western blot showed that Shenxiong Glucose Injection could down-regulate the mRNA and protein expression levels of caspase-3( P<0. 01),up-regulate the mRNA and protein expression level of PIK3 CA and Bcl-2( P<0. 01),and up-regulate the phosphorylation levels of AKT( P<0. 01) in H_2O_2-treated H9 c2 cells. The protective effect of Shenxiong Glucose Injection on H_2O_2 cells injury was significantly inhibited by LY294002,a PI3 K/AKT pathway inhibitor. The results suggested that Shenxiong Glucose Injection may inhibit H_2O_2-induced H9 c2 cells apoptosis by regulating PI3 K/AKT signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Purpose To evaluate the value of immunohistochemical stain (IHC) in the diagnosis of helicobacter pylori (HP) -associated gastritis with gastric biopsy tissue. Method239 cases of gastric biopsy were selected. All patients had14 C urea breath test (UBT) at the time of gastric biopsy. IHC for HP was performed with the biopsy tissues. The results were compared with gold standard results. Gold standard was established according to the Chinese Fourth National Consensus report on HP infection with modification. It was considered positive if two or more of the three test results were positive, including IHC, UBT, and HE. Results 239 gastric biopsy specimens fit the criteria. Compared with the gold standard, the sensitivity and specificity value of IHC stains were 97.3% and 100.0% respectively, higher than 91.1%, 81.9% of 14 C UBT, and 80.4%, 92.9% of HE stain respectively. The14 C UBT showed 9.6% false positive rate, and 4.2% false negative rate. Conclusion IHC is a valuable test in the diagnosis of HP-associated gastritis, and it should be recommended for routine histopathologic diagnostic workup if HP gastritis is clinically suspected or chronic active gastritis is identified in the biopsy tissue.

ABSTRACT

Objective To establish a method to determine the contents of total flavonoids and shikimic acid in pine needles of Pinus massoniana Lamb.in Wudang Area.Methods Rutin was used as reference standard,and the content of total flavonoids in pine needles of Pinus massoniana Lamb. was determined by UV spectrometry at wavelength of 500 nm. The content of shikimic acid was determined by HPLC-DAD. The Fortis Xi C8 column (5 μm, 250 mm × 4.6 mm) was adopted with acetonitrile - 0.4% phosphoric acid solution (8:92, V/V) as mobile phase at the flow rate of 0.9 mL/min. The detection wavelength was 213 nm; the column temperature was 30 ℃; the injection volume was 20 μL. Results The linear range was 8.26-49.54 μg for rutin (r=0.999 4) with an average recovery of 99.2%, RSD=1.94%. The linear range was 10.26-61.56 μg for shikimic acid (r=0.999 4) with an average recovery of 99.5%,RSD=1.93%.The contents of total flavonoids in pine needles of Pinus massoniana Lamb.was 28.33 mg/g, and shikimic acid was 15.25 mg/g, respectively. Conclusion The method is simple, rapid, accurate and reproducible. It can be used for the content determination of total flavonoids and shikimic acid in pine needles of Pinus massoniana Lamb. in Wudang Area.

ABSTRACT

Aim To investigate whether the protection of rutaecarpine against myocardial ischemia / reperfusion (I/ R ) injury is mediated by Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/ NF-κB pathway,and whether these effects are related to the release of calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)in plasma. Methods Sprague-Daw-ley rats were subjected to 60 min of ligation of the left anterior descending coronary followed by 3h of reperfu-sion to induce I/ R injury. Rats were pretreated with rutaecarpine 10 min before the ligation,and some rats were pretreated with capsazepine 2 min before rutae-carpine administration. Myocardial infarct size,CGRP concentration in plasma and creatine kinase (CK)ac-tivity in serum were measured. The expression of TLR4 mRNA in myocardial tissue was determined by RT-PCR. The protein expression of TLR4 and NF-κB in myocardial tissue was analyzed by immunohistochemis-try. Results Rutaecarpine (100,300 μg · kg - 1 , iv)significantly reduced the infarct size and the serum CK activity concomitantly with the increase in plasma CGRP concentration (P < 0. 05). Importantly,the ex-pression of TLR4 (both mRNA and protein)and NF-κB (protein)was increased by myocardial I/ R injury, and dramatically inhibited by rutaecarpine pretreatment (P < 0. 05). All these effects of rutaecarpine were a-bolished by capsazepine (1. 5 mg·kg - 1 ,iv),a spe-cific antagonist for vanilloid receptor-1. Conclusion Rutaecarpine protects against myocardial I/ R injury by inhibiting TLR4 / NF-κB pathway,which is related to the increased release of CGRP.

ABSTRACT

A 27-year-old female patient was referred due to an edematous left lower extremity. Both saphenous veins had been ablated with an endovenous laser procedure used to treat varicose veins. Venography revealed that the left common femoral vein had been divided and that thrombosis was present at the site of division. No veins were available around the thighs. The patient was treated using a staged procedure. During the first stage, a ringed polytetrafluoroethylene graft was used to repair the common femoral vein, and an arteriovenous fistula was constructed from the femoral artery to the graft using a short segment of cephalic vein to increase graft patency. The edema was relieved postoperatively and the graft was patent. During the second stage, which was performed 6 months later, the fistula was occluded by coil embolization. The staged procedure described herein provides an alternative for venous reconstruction when autologous vein is unavailable.

ABSTRACT

Soil and Uncaria rhynchophylla in different functional areas were selected for the study,the content of heavy metals such as As, Cd, Cu, Cr, Pb, and Hg in soil and U. rhynchophylla was discussed, the characteristics of their accumulation in the U.rhynchophylla was analyzed, the contamination levels of heavy metals in soil in different functional areas was evaluated. The results showed that content of Cu, As, Pb and Cr in soil was being cropland>woodland>wasteland, content of Cd was being woodland>cropland>wasteland, content of Hg was being cropland>woodland>wasteland. According to quality standard of soil environment, soil Cd in woodland, cropland and wasteland all exceeded the state-level standards, soil Cd in woodland exceeded the secondary standard, soil Hg in cropland and wasteland all exceeded the state-level standards. According to technical conditions of green food producing area, soil Cd in woodland exceeded the limit value of standard. According to Green Trade Standards of Importing Exporting Medicinal Plants Preparations,the content of heavy metals of U.rhynchophylla in cropland,woodland and wasteland were correspond to the specification. From the single factor pollution index, the soil in woodland was polluted by Cd. From the comprehensive pollution index, the soils in different functional areas were not contaminated by heavy metals. The enrichment coefficient of heavy metals such as As, Cu, Cr, and Pb in hook of U.rhynchophylla was being wasteland>woodland>cropland, the enrichment coefficient of Cu in hook of U. rhynchophylla in wasteland was more than 1. Except Cu, the enrichment coefficient of other heavy metals was low.

ABSTRACT

Hematemesis is a rare manifestation of a ruptured bronchial artery aneurysm (BAA) in the mediastinum. It is difficult to diagnose a ruptured BAA presenting as hematemesis, because it can be confused with other diseases, such as Boerhaave's syndrome, variceal disease, or a perforated ulcer. In this report, we describe a case of BAA resulting in hematemesis and mediastinal hemorrhage.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the expression and significance of CD151 in pituitary adenomas.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty-six pituitary adenomas were collected immediately after surgery together with five normal pituitary tissue. Real time-PCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry analysis were performed to detect the expression of CD151 mRNA and protein in thirty-six pituitary adenomases and five normal pituitary tissues.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The expression of CD151 in all pituitary adenomases was observed to be significantly higher than that in normal pituitary tissues by Western blot, real time PCR, and immunohistochemistry analysis (P < 0.01). The expression levels of protein and mRNA in invasive pituitary adenomas were much higher than those in non-invasive pituitary adenomas (P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The results suggested that the expression of CD151 was closely correlated with malignant degree of pituitary adenomas, which indicated the expression of CD151 was intimately correlated with occurrence and development of pituitary adenomas. Detecting CD151 might be a vital index to predict prognosis of pituitary adenomas.</p>

ABSTRACT

We report herein a case of benign cardiac schwannoma in the interatrial septum. A 42-year-old woman was transferred from a clinic because of cardiomegaly as determined by chest X-ray. A transthoracic echocardiography and chest computed tomography examination revealed a huge mass in the pericardium compressing the right atrium, superior vena cava (SVC), left atrium, and superior pulmonary vein. To confirm that the tumor originated from either heart or mediastinum, cine magnetic resonance imaging was performed, but the result was not conclusive. To facilitate surgical planning, we used 3D printing. Using a printed heart model, we decided that tumor resection under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) through sternotomy would be technically feasible. At surgery, a huge tumor in the interatrial septum was confirmed. By incision on the atrial roof between the aorta and SVC, tumor enucleation was performed successfully under CPB. Pathology revealed benign schwannoma. The patient was discharged without complication. 3D printing of the heart and tumor was found to be helpful when deciding optimal surgical approach.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Total arch replacement (TAR) is being more widely performed due to recent advances in operative techniques and cerebral protective strategies. In this study, the authors reviewed the relationship between TAR and early- and mid-term changes of the false lumen after TAR in acute type A aortic dissection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-six patients (aged, 54.7+/-13.3 years) who underwent TAR for acute type A dissection between June 2004 and February 2012 were reviewed. The relationship between the percentage change in the aortic diameter and the false lumen patency status was assessed by examining the early and late postoperative computed tomography imaging studies. RESULTS: There were two in-hospital mortalities, one late death, and three follow-up loses. The mean follow-up duration for the final 21 patients studied was 54+/-19.0 months (range, 20 to 82 months). The incidence of false lumen thrombosis within 2 weeks of surgery in the proximal, middle, and distal thoracic aorta, and the suprarenal and infrarenal abdominal aorta were 67%, 38%, 38%, 48%, and 33%, respectively, and 57%, 67%, 52%, 33%, and 33% for those examined at a mean of 49+/-18 months after surgery, respectively. The false lumen regressed in 11 patients (42.3%). The aortic diameters were larger in the patients with a patent false lumen than those with a thrombosed false lumen at all levels of the descending aorta (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: TAR and a more complete primary tear-resection can be accomplished with a relatively low-risk of morbidity and mortality. Enlargement of the distal aorta significantly correlated with the false lumen patency status.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Acute aortic dissection is a rare and life-threatening disease, requiring an immediate evaluation and treatment. In 2010, the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association suggested a new risk score system for the detection of an acute aortic dissection. This system was applied to our known patients with acute aortic dissection. METHODS: 155 patients with acute aortic dissection regardless of the types from January 2000 to June 2012 were examined. The known risk factors and 12 newly proposed risk factors were compared, based on the new guidelines, after dividing them into a delayed diagnosis group and early diagnosis group. The impact of the aortic dissection detection (ADD) risk score on the diagnostic process was assessed. RESULTS: The abrupt onset of pain was the most frequent symptom (65.2%) and only had an impact on an early diagnosis (p=0.021). 83 patients (53.5%) showed a widened mediastinum in the chest X-rays. The diagnosis was delayed in 21 patients (13.8%). According to the new guideline, 149(96.1%) were identified by 1 or more of the 12 clinical markers. 6(3.8%), 88(56.8%) and 61(39.3%) patients were classified as low, intermediate and high risk, respectively. Three of the 6 low risk patients showed mediastinal widening. CONCLUSION: The clinical risk markers and the ADD risk score system in the 2010 guidelines detected patients with high sensitivity. The new risk score system appears to be a valuable diagnostic index at the initial presentation.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effect of sea cucumber cerebroside(SCC) and its long-chain base(LCB) on lipid and glucose metabolism in obese mice.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The mouse obese model was established by feeding high fat diet. The mice were randomly assigned to 4 groups: control group, model group, SCC group and LCB group. After 4 weeks, the glucose tolerance test was undertaken. After 5 weeks, the body fat content, organic indexes, serum lipid level, glycemic index and liver lipid level were determined.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Compared with the model group, the glucose tolerance in the SCC group and LCB group was ameliorated significantly (P<0.01, P<0.05); glycemic index (P<0.01, P<0.01), the weight of adipose tissue (P<0.05, P<0.01) and the hepatic TG were reduced significantly (P<0.05, P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Sea cucumber cerebroside and its long-chain base can improve the glucose and lipid metabolism in obese mice.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the correlation of the common variant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) on chromosome 3 with the incidence and related risk factors of prostate cancer (PCa) in Chinese men.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Using the case-control meth- od, we included 124 PCa patients in the PCa group and 111 age- and gender-matched cancer-free healthy subjects as normal controls. We detected the distribution of allele and genotype frequencies of the SNP rs10934853 and rs2660753 with the polymerase chain reaction-high resolution melting curve (PCR-HRM) combined with gene sequencing, analyzed the cumulative effect of the risk genotypes of these two independent variants, and determined the correlation between different genotypes of these two SNPs and clinically related risk factors in the PCa patients.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>As for the genotypes of rs10934853, there were 28 cases of AA (22.8%), 46 cases of CC (37.4%), and 49 cases of AC (39.8%) in the PCa patients, as compared with 24 (22.0%), 34 (31.2%) and 51 (46.8%) in the healthy controls. As regards the genotypes of rs2660753, there were 13 cases of AA (11.0%), 59 cases of GG (50.0%) and 46 cases of AG (39.0%) in the PCa patients, in comparison with 9 (8.8%), 47 (45.6%) and 47 (45.6%) in the controls. No significant differences were found in the distribution of the genotype and allele frequencies of rs10934853 and rs2660753 between the two groups (P = 0.520 & 0.582). Analysis on the cumulative effect of the risk genotypes of rs10934853 and rs2660753 showed a slightly higher risk of PCa (OR = 1.831 & 1.968) in the two groups with risk genotypes than in the one with wild types (P > 0.05). Different genotypes of rs10934853 and rs2660753 were not correlated with clinically related risk factors of the PCa patients (P > 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>SNP rs10934853 and rs2660753 on chromosome 3 are not obviously correlated with PCa in Chinese patients, and may not be a genetic risk factor of PCa.</p>

ABSTRACT

In European populations, 7 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on chromosome 17q, 3 SNPs on 17q12, and 4 SNPs on 17q24.3 were recently identified to be closely related to the risk of prostate cancer by a genome-wide association study. In Japanese populations, the correlation between 2 SNPs on 17q and the risk of prostate cancer and tumor aggressiveness was also confirmed by a large-scale experiment. However, whether 17q is associated with prostate cancer and its clinical manifestations in Chinese populations is still unknown. Therefore, we conducted a case-control study in a northern Chinese population and tested 2 SNPs, rs4430796 and rs1859962, on 17q in 124 prostate cancer patients and 111 controls using polymerase chain reaction-high resolution melting curve (PCR-HRM) combined with sequencing. We analyzed the association of the 2 SNPs with the risk of prostate cancer as well as patients' lifestyles, onset ages, Gleason scores, PSA levels, and pathologic stages. We found a significant difference in the G allele of SNP rs1859962 (P = 0.035, OR = 1.51, 95% CI = 1.03-2.21) but not in the rs4430796 genotype frequency or allele frequency distribution between prostate cancer patients and the controls (P > 0.05). Neither of the SNPs was significantly associated with the onset age, Gleason score, PSA level, pathologic stage, or other clinical indicators of patients with prostate cancer (P > 0.05). Our results show that polymorphism of the G allele of SNP rs1859962 is associated with the risk of prostate cancer in a Chinese population.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effect of sea cucumber cerebroside (SCC) on the lipid metabolism in rats with orotic acid-induced fatty liver.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) model was established by adding orotic acid to the diets in rats. The rats were randomly assigned to four groups:control group, NAFLD group, NAFLD + low SCC group and NAFLD + high SCC group. After 10 days of feeding, the serum and hepatic lipid concentrations and the aminopherase activities were measured; the composition of hepatic fatty acids was also analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>The serum TC and TG levels reduced significantly in the NAFLD group as compared with the controls (P<0.05), while the sea cucumber cereborside feeding raised the serum lipid concentrations (P<0.05). The hepatic TC and TG levels dramatically increased in the NAFLD group in comparison with the controls (P<0.05, P<0.01), while the hepatic lipid accumulations decreased in both SCC groups (P<0.05, P<0.01). The ALT and AST activities in the NAFLD group increased markedly when compared with the controls (P<0.05, P <0.01), while the sea cucumber cerebroside feeding attenuated the hepatic injury levels (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the control group, the stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) activity increased significantly in the NAFLD group (P<0.05), but decreased in SCC groups (P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Sea cucumber cerebroside can attenuate the rat fatty liver induced by orotic acid.</p>

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to predict the possible tertiary structure alterations of p53 protein after point mutation of p53 gene condon 282 in lung cancer cells based on the latest 3D structure analysis platform series of Phyre software. It was found that the p53 gene condon 282 mutation (Arg/Leu) may destabilize the H2 helix and DNA binding in the major groove by compromising the contacts of p53 protein with the beta-hairpin of DNA binding surface.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effects of mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction pathways on heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) gene expression in endothelial cells exposed to benzo(a)pryene (BaP).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Porcine aortic endothelial cells were pre-treated or by PD98059 (10 micro mol/L) or SB203580 (20 micro mol/L) for 1 hour, then treated with different concentrations of BaP (0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 5.0 and 10.0 micro mol/L) for 24 hours respectively;Expression levels of three phosphorylated MAPKs [extracellular signal regulated protein kinase (ERK), c-Jun amino-terminal kinase (JNK), and p38] and HSP70 were determined by Western-blot.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The three phosphorylated MAPKs expressional levels especially p-ERK1 had different extents of changes with dose-response relationship under BaP exposure. BaP inhibited the expression of HSP70, which significantly decreased in medium and high dose group (>or= 1.0 micro mol/L) but did not decrease in control group (P < 0.05). Although the inhibitor of ERK (PD98059) could partly weaken the inhibited effects of BaP on HSP70 expression, HSP70 expression levels of endothelial cells pre-treated with PD98059 were still significantly lower than that of control cells (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>ERK1 pathway might play some roles in HSP70 gene expression in endothelial cells exposed to BaP, and other unknown signal pathways might also have some effects on this process.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>Quantitative determination was made of ethyl-p-hydroxybenzoate in Dracaena cochinchinensis extracted with two technologies.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>The sample was resolved with methanol and isolated by TLC, purged with methanol. Tge sample solution was chroma to graphed on a C18 column with acetonitrile-1% acetic acid (31:69) as mobile phase, detecting at 257 nm and content was calculated with external standard method.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>The standard curves of ethyl-p-hydroxybenzoate were linear in the range of 0.206-4.12 ng, r = 0.9998. The average recovery was 97.2% and RSD was 1.4%.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The content of ethyl-p-hydroxybenzoate in D. cochinchinensis extracted with heating-tree technongy is higher than that with traditional technology.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the effect of benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) on the expression and the activities of cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) of porcine aortic endothelial cells.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Porcine aortic endothelial cells were cultured in vitro, and treated with different concentrations of BaP (0, 0.5, 1.0, 5.0, 10.0 micro mol/L) for 24 hours, CYP1A1 expression was determined by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. At the same time, the ethoxyresorufin-o-deethylase (EROD) activities were measured by spectrofluorometer.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>By Western blot, the expression of CYP1A1 of control cells was not found, but the expression of CYP1A1 of cells treated with BaP was found; By immunohistochemistry, only part of endothelial cells treated with BaP had positive expression of CYP1A1. The peak activities of EROD induced by BaP was at the concentration of 0.5 - 1.0 micro mol/L.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>BaP could induce part of endothelial cells to synthesize CYP1A1. BaP of 0.5 - 1.0 micro mol/L could induce peak activities of EROD.</p>
