ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the effect of oral administration of dimethyl dimethoxy biphenyl dicarboxylate (DDB) on adjusting angiogeneic/inflammatory mediators and ameliorating the pathology of bones in rats with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Wistar rat model of CIA was set up using bovine collagen type II. Fifty rats were divided into five groups randomly: normal, CIA model, DDB treatment, methotrexate (MTX) treatment, and combined DDB+MTX treatment. Ankle joints of rats were imaged with digital X-ray machine to show the destruction of joints. Fore and hind paw and knee joints were removed above the ankle joint then processed for haematoxylin and eosin staining. Plasma levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), platelet derived growth factor, interleukin-8 (IL-8), IL-4, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) were quantified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Nitric oxide levels were detected by Griess reagent.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Compared with the CIA model group, a remarkable reduction in various angiogenic (VEGF and IL-8) and inflammatory mediators (TNF-α, IL-4 and COX-2) after treatment with DDB either alone or combined with MTX P<0.05 or P<0.01). Histopathological and X-ray findings were confirmatory to the observed DDB anti-arthritic effect. The DDB-treated group showed amelioration in signs of arthritis which appeared essentially similar to normal.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Our data shed light on the therapeutic efficacy of DDB in experimental rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared with a choice drug (MTX) and it may be offered as a second-line drug in the treatment of RA.</p>

ABSTRACT

Microscopic vascularity was studied in 15 cases of benign prostate tissue and 15 cases of prostatic carcinomas. H and E stain and immunohistochemistry by marking the vascular endothelial cells with antibodies to factor VII related antigen were used to detect microvessel profiles in tissue sections. In benign prostate tissue the capillaries are more dense near hyperplastic gl and s than cystic one and in perigl and ular stroma than the interlobular one. The data demonstrated the increased density of capillaries with more irregularity in prostatic carcinomas when compared with benign prostate tissues, also the capillaries have tiny lumens and irregular angular shape. Capillary densities were variable from tumor to tumor

ABSTRACT

One hundred and five [105] patients with bilhazial hepatic fibrosis and/or cirrhosis fullfiling the criteria of group A child's classification were subjected to thorough clinical examination, biochemical investigation and serological determination of Hepatitis B virus markers. Moreover an upper GIT endoscopy and liver biopsy were done for every patient in the studied group. From the present work hepatitis B serologic markers alone or in combination were present in 86/105[81.9%] of cirrhotic patients group A child's classification The prevalence of each hepatitis B virus serological markers among this group of patients was:HBs AG 18/105 [17.1%], anti-HBs 26/105 [24.8%], anti -HBC IgM 1/105[22.9%] None of the hepatitis Bvirus serological markers was detected in 19/105[18.1%]. HBV serological markers profile of past infection was detected in 21/105 [20%], HBV serological markers profile of chronic current infection in 56/105 [53.3%] and HBV serological markers profile of a recent current infection in 9/105 [8.6%] of cases. Pure bilharzial hepatic fibrosis accounted for 17/105[16.2%] of cases only, mixed cirrhosis for 26/105[24.8%], pure posthepatitic, most likely, due HBV infection in 53/105[50.5%], and undetermined etiology in 9/105[8.6%], of cases. According to the accepted criteria of active cirrhosis, 16.26[61.5%] patients with mixed cirrhosis and 10/53[18.7%] patients with pure cirrhosis showed biochemical and histopathological evidence of active cirrhosis thus we have assured a total incidence of active cirrhosis in 26/105[24.8%] of this group of patients

ABSTRACT

Our experience with 41 patients with vesical adenocarcinoma treated between 1969 and 1983, is presented. The operative mortality was 9.5%. The 5-year actuarial survival of cases treated by radical surgery was 38.9%. The relation between treatment failures, histologic types of adenocarcinoma [Non mucin, mucin producing and mucinous] and grade is outlined

ABSTRACT

The Available Findings showed that morphia induce dysfunction of the ultrastructure of the nerve cells by direct injury to the mitochondria which are intimately linked with the energy and oxidation metabolism. Serious disorders of the respiratory function in nerve cells cause accumulation of incompletely oxidised products, impairment of intracellular homeostasis and reaction of other cell organelles which are not directly related to energy prodution. So, great increase of lysosmal enzymes activity occur that taking upon themselves the function of removal of semide-composition products and fatal cases cell autolysis. The features of cellular reaction to morphine showed unequal vulnerability of different types of neurones and selective sensitivity of various C.N.S. Formations
