ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the clinical application and surgical effect of minimal invasive liposuction system (MILS) method in the thighs liposuction. Methods:From July 2019 to March 2021, 868 patients were selected for thigh liposuction. Local anesthesia and intravenous anesthesia were used in all operations. The preoperative design and intraoperative procedures were carried out according to the requirements of MILS ? method. There was an average of 2 154.4 ml fat aspirated, and the average operation time was 156.8 min. Results:After 2-18 months of follow-up, 83.3% of the patients were discharged on the day of operation. The thigh line curve of the patients was fluent and the perimeter of upper thigh was significantly reduced. The satisfactory rate was 92.3%, and the incidence of complications was 2.8%. No severe complication occurred. Conclusions:MILS method is a safe and effective procedure to partition thighs liposuction area scientifically and finely. The MILS method makes the lumbar abdominal liposuction operation standardized, reduces unnecessary operation, shortens the liposuction learning curve, reduces the occurrence of complications, and achieves the best aesthetic effect.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To explore the correlation between age, OCT characteristics and the efficacy of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)drugs in the treatment of macular edema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion(CRVO).
METHODS: Retrospective case-control study. From July 2017 to July 2019,47 eyes of 47 patients with CRVO were included and divided into group A(elderly group, age>50y, n=27)and group B(young and middle-aged group, age≤50y, n=20). All patients were received anti-VEGF therapy(3+PRN)and followed up for at least 12mo. The best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), the number of hyper-reflective dots(HRD), the average retinal thickness(ART)and central retinal thickness(CRT)were observed before and after treatment. The number of injections, the recovery rate of outer membrane(ELM)and ellipsoidal zone(EZ)were compared between the two groups, and the related indexes affecting visual prognosis were analyzed.
RESULTS: After anti-VEGF treatment, BCVA was improved, the number of HRD decreased, CRT and ART thinned in both groups. During the follow up of 12mo after treatment, the frequency of injection of anti-VEGF drugs in the elderly group was higher than that in the young and middle-aged group(8.4±2.1 times vs 7.3±1.7 times, P=0.047), but there was no difference in the recovery rates of ELM and EZ between the two groups. BCVA in the elderly group was correlated with the age, HRD, ELM and EZ(all P<0.05). BCVA was correlated with age, ART, HRD, ELM and EZ in young and middle-aged patients(all P<0.05).
CONCLUSION: Intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF drugs can effectively treat macular edema secondary to CRVO and the prognosis of young and middle-aged patients is better than that of elderly patients. Age and OCT indexes such as HRD, ELM and EZ are related to visual prognosis.

ABSTRACT

In the current study, we sought to investigate whether T-type Ca channels (TCCs) in the brain are involved in generating post-anesthetic hyperexcitatory behaviors (PAHBs). We found that younger rat pups (postnatal days 9-11) had a higher incidence of PAHBs and higher PAHB scores than older pups (postnatal days 16-18) during emergence from sevoflurane anesthesia. The power spectrum of the theta oscillations (4 Hz-8 Hz) in the prefrontal cortex was significantly enhanced in younger pups when PAHBs occurred, while there were no significant changes in older pups. Both the power of theta oscillations and the level of PAHBs were significantly reduced by the administration of TCC inhibitors. Moreover, the sensitivity of TCCs in the medial dorsal thalamic nucleus to sevoflurane was found to increase with age by investigating the kinetic properties of TCCs in vitro. TCCs were activated by potentiated GABAergic depolarization with a sub-anesthetic dose of sevoflurane (1%). These data suggest that (1) TCCs in the brain contribute to the generation of PAHBs and the concomitant electroencephalographic changes; (2) the stronger inhibitory effect of sevoflurane contributes to the lack of PAHBs in older rats; and (3) the contribution of TCCs to PAHBs is not mediated by a direct effect of sevoflurane on TCCs.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the accuracy of different anatomic landmark methods in determining the size of nasopharyngeal airway. Methods Fifty-two patients of both sexes, aged 16-60 yr,of American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status Ⅰ to Ⅲ,with body mass index of 18-30 kg/m2,scheduled for elective awake craniotomy for supratentorial tumors under sedation-awake-sedation anesthesia, were included. For each patient, the distance from the apex of nose to the right tragus (NT),distance from apex of nose to the right mandibular angle (NM),and thyro-mental distance (TM) were measured and marked on a transnasal tube correspondingly. The patients were placed in supine position without pillow, topical anesthesia (nasal mucosal surface) was performed with 2% lidocaine, and patients were sedated with midazo1am,propofol and dexmedetomidine. When Observer's Assessment of Alertness/Sedation Scale score was 2 or 3 points, the tube was transnasally inserted to each marked depth. When the three marked depths mentioned above were reached, the positions of the tube's tip were checked using a fiberoptic bronchoscope and recorded as:above epiglottis (the tip of the tube was placed between the epiglottis and the free edge of soft palate) or below epiglottis (the tip of the tube placed at or beyond the epiglottis). Results When the depth reached the NT mark, the tube's tip was above epiglottis in 14 cases (27%),and the tube's tip was below epiglottis in 38 cases (73%).When the depth reached the NM mark, the tube's tip was above epiglottis in 31 cases (60%),and the tube's tip was below epiglottis in 21 cases (40%).When the depth reached the TM mark, the tube's tip was above epiglottis in 52 cases (100%).Compared with the NM and NT methods, the TM method had a higher probability with the tube's tip above epiglottis when used to determine the depth of insertion (P<0.01).Conclusion TM anatomic landmark method provides higher accuracy in determining the size of nasopharyngeal airway.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo evaluate remineralization efficacy of an arginine containing dentifrice on initial enamel carious lesions in vitro.

METHODSHuman enamel blocks with early lesions were prepared and randomly divided into three treatment groups: negative control group (distilled and deionized water), positive control group (fluoride containing dentifrice and 0.14% sodium monofluorophosphate), and test dentifrice group (8.0% arginine and 0.14% sodium monofluorophosphate). The lesions were subjected to a pH-cycling regime for 10 days. Surface enamel microhardness of the enamel blocks from each group was measured before and after pH cycling, and the surface microhardness recovery was calculated. Then, specimens were analyzed for enamel fluoride uptake (EFU) through acid etching method, after which they were treated in demineralization solution for a 2 h period of acid challenge. The other specimens were sectioned and examined through polarized light microscopy.

RESULTSIn the test dentifrice group, microhardness recovery and EFU were significantly higher than those in the negative control and positive groups. The test dentifrice group was significantly resistant to the acid challenge compared with the other groups. Conspicuous remineralization of enamel subsurface lesions was observed under polarized light microscopy among samples treated with test dentifrice, whereas the control groups showed no significant changes on enamel subsurface lesions.

CONCLUSIONThis study presents the potential superiority of Pro-Argin dentifrice over conventional fluoride dentifrice in promoting the remineralization of initial enamel lesions.

ABSTRACT

Tooth bleaching agents may weaken the tooth structure. Therefore, it is important to minimize any risks of tooth hard tissue damage caused by bleaching agents. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of applying 45S5 bioglass (BG) before, after, and during 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) bleaching on whitening efficacy, physicochemical properties and microstructures of bovine enamel. Seventy-two bovine enamel blocks were prepared and randomly divided into six groups: distilled deionized water (DDW), BG, HP, BG before HP, BG after HP and BG during HP. Colorimetric and microhardness tests were performed before and after the treatment procedure. Representative specimens from each group were selected for morphology investigation after the final tests. A significant color change was observed in group HP, BG before HP, BG after HP and BG during HP. The microhardness loss was in the following order: group HP>BG before HP, BG after HP>BG during HP>DDW, BG. The most obvious morphological alteration of was observed on enamel surfaces in group HP, and a slight morphological alteration was also detected in group BG before HP and BG after HP. Our findings suggest that the combination use of BG and HP could not impede the tooth whitening efficacy. Using BG during HP brought better protective effect than pre/post-bleaching use of BG, as it could more effectively reduce the mineral loss as well as retain the surface integrity of enamel. BG may serve as a promising biomimetic adjunct for bleaching therapy to prevent/restore the enamel damage induced by bleaching agents.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To determine the rules that apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) changes with time and space in cerebral infarction, and to provide the evidence in defining the stage, guiding treatment or judging the prognosis in infarction.@*METHODS@#Eighty-eight work-ups in 69 patients with cerebral infarction (8 hyperacute, 35 acute, 20 subacute, and 25 chronic infarctions) were imaged with both conventional MRI and diffusion weighted imaging. The average ADC, the average relative ADC (rADC), and the ADC or rADC from the center to the periphery of the lesion were calculated.@*RESULTS@#The average ADC and the average rADC of hyperacute and acute infarction lesion depressed obviously. The average ADC and the average rADC of subacute infarction lesion were significantly higher than those of hyperacute and acute infarction lesion (P < 0.05), and some approached the values of uninjured side which appeared "pseudonormal values" at 10 to 14 days. The average ADC and the average rADC in chronic infarction lesion were the highest (P < 0.05). The longer the prognosis, the higher the average ADC and the average rADC of infarction lesion. The ADC and the rADC in 7 hyperacute and 26 acute lesions had gradient signs that these lesions increased from the center to the periphery. The ADC and the rADC in 15 subacute lesions had adverse gradient signs that these lesions decreased from the center to the periphery.@*CONCLUSION@#The ADC and the rADC of infarction lesions have evolution rules with time and space corresponding to the pathophysiological foundation. The evolution rules with time and those in space can be helpful to decide the clinical stage and pathophysiological phase of infarction, and to provide the evidence in guiding the treatment or judging the prognosis in infarction.
