ABSTRACT

We have examined the morphology and distribution of lysosomes in Von Ebner's salivary gland utilizing TMPase as a marker. TMPase reactivity was detected basally, laterally and in the center of the cells. They include AV, Rb, MVBs and dense bodies. TL was detected for the first time in between the secretory granules and in the lateral parts of exocrine acinar cells. They were parallel to RER. In addition direct continuity between TL and MVBs and dense bodies was observed. The new locations and relations of TL support their role in pinocytotic processes and cellular regularity processes

ABSTRACT

The effect of intraperitoneal injection of Vinblastine sulfate on rat periodontal ligament was studied. Cells still synthetize collagen after 2 hours of the injection with evidence of loss of extracellular collagen fibers orientation. Tubular lysosome could not be detected after 2 hours with formation of lysosomal clusters in the cell center. After 4 hours of administration, evidences of cell degeneration were observed. The present study has shown that Vinblastine produces effect on fibroblasts as early as two hours after injection

ABSTRACT

Thirty patients with renal transplantation and receiving Sandimmun therapy were studied to detect the effect of the drug on their mixed saliva and gingiva. The saliva was analyzed biochemically for the determination of creatinine, urea and uric acid concentrations. Clinical and histological examinations of the gingiva were carried out. The results showed that gingival hyperplasia was induced in about 1/3 of the patients. The concentrations of urea and uric acid were increased in the saliva of the patients while the level of creatinine did not change

ABSTRACT

Ten diabetic patients, old denture wearers, have been selected from the ten diabetes institute, Cairo. The patients were divided into two groups [5 patients each]. The first group used denture adhesive continuously without any instructions, while the second group, the patients did not use denture adhesive at all. Biopsy was taken from each patient of the two groups, from the mucosa covering the lower ridge at the premolar region. The results obtained from this study showed that there were pathological changes in the mucosa supporting the denture in both epithelium and lamina propria, together with decrease in mucopolysaccharides and proteins, in the first group of patients who misused the denture adhesive, while in the second group of patients who did not use adhesive at all there were no marked pathological changes
