ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to determine the similarity of nasolabial angle of our population with the standardized norms. A sample, selected on the basis of having a class I molar relationship, was radiographed and their Nasolabial angle was measured to find if a variation existed between our sample and the standard value. The mean value of nasolabial angle of our sample was 102° +/- 9°Compared to the standard value of 102° +/- 8°. Value of nasolabial angle in our sample was similar to the standard value given by McNamara in his soft tissue analysis, with no sexual dimorphism present

ABSTRACT

Maintaining anchorage in orthodontics has been a challenge for the orthodontists for centuries. In the recent past several different appliances have been introduced, which are claimed to be the replacement of extra-oral anchorage appliances. But time has shown that they all have failed to provide the anchorage needs. Currently micro implants have been introduced for use in orthodontics. They claim to provide absolute anchorage during orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this article is to review the history and current concepts of implants in orthodontics

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the change in the soft tissue profile following mandibular setback osteotomy in Angle's class-III cases. MATERIAL and METHODS: Twenty-Five patients with skeletal class-III malocclusion were treated by presurgical orthodontics and mandibular setback osteotomy. The study was carried-out on lateral cephalograms of the patients taken before surgery and six weeks after surgery. The amount and direction of soft tissue change after mandibular setback osteotomy was evaluated. Seven soft tissue parameters were used to study the change six weeks after surgery. A-A', B-B', UI-Ls, Pog-Pog', ULS, LLS, showed decrease but LI-Li displayed increase. Upper lip thickness decreased slightly while lower lip thickness increased non-significantly. The results are suggestive of the relaxation of the lower lip after IMF period

ABSTRACT

A 19 year old female patient presented at the Fatima Jinnah Dental College Hospital Karachi with a complaint of midline diastema and bilateral spaces distal to central maxillary central incisors. She wanted the alignment of the central incisors and closure of the spaces in the shortest possible timeframe. She had no complaints in the lower arch. Radiographic examination revealed the congenital absence of bilateral maxillary lateral incisors, maxillary second and third molars and mandibular left second premolar. The maxillary right permanent canine was conical. The maxillary left primary canine and mandibular left second primary molar was retained. She presented with a Class-I skeletal and dental relationship. The lower dental arch showed no malalignment except for the retained second primary molar. This molar had shorter roots but was in functional occlusion. Overjet and overbite were within normal limits

ABSTRACT

The goal of the orthodontic treatment is to create the balanced profile based on the norms that produce a pleasing face. There are numbers of soft tissues cephalometric aesthetics measurements that can be used. This study was conducted upon 100 aesthetically pleasing persons, who did not have apparent malocclusion the data included the photographs of 5 x 7 size of each. We took the frontal and lateral view of the face. Cephalometric analysis was performed on the photographs of the subjects. We concluded that significant similarity was seen in the results of analysis performed and certain criteria were found necessary to claim a beautiful face

ABSTRACT

To introduce a removable appliance in the field of Orthodontics, which has proved to be successful in treating difficult Class II, Div 2 malocclusions. Cetlin's ACCO appliance is modified to achieve a definite molar distalization and correction of incisor angulation simultaneously. This newly developed appliance is being used at Marmara University, Istanbul. Fatima Jinnah Dental College, Karachi. PNS Shifa, Karachi. ACCO appliance is being used in patient with Angle's Class-11, Division 2 malocclusion. This malocclusion is characterised with retroclined central incisors, proclined lateral incisors, deep bite, reduced overbite and low anterior face height. The translation of first permanent molars, distal drifting of premolars, proclination of central incisors, correction of deep bite. In combination with the ACCO appliance, patient needs to wear the cervical pull headgear for 6-8 hours during night only. The Molars are distalized upto 4-5 mm in 4-6 months of regular wear of ACCO and night time wear of headgear
