ABSTRACT

Biopsy specimens of secondary skin lesions of PR obtained from 20 patients were studied histopathologically and immunohistopathologically [using monoclonal antibodies directed against the dermal inflammatory infiltrate]. The tissue was paraffin embedded after fixation in BS and methanol 13 cases only gave positive results.Still the pattern of monoclonal expression in the stained cases varies. Our results suggest a possible role that may be mediated by the cellular immune reaction in the pathomechanism of such disease

ABSTRACT

72 Ginea pigs were prepared and randomized to demonstrate the adverse effects of long term therapy of cyclosporine A [Cy A] and other currentely used immunosuppressive drugs [methotrexate, azathioprine, prednisone of the spleen, liver and kidney and also to estimate the effects of these drugs on the brain monoamines content and plasma cortisol level. From our histopathological and biochemical findings, it was concluded that Cy A is the safest and least toxic drug as compared with the ordinary immunsupressive drugs. On the other hand, it was clear that Cy A is the only drug which rises the plasma cortisol level and brain monoamines content significantly and may had a role in the pathogensis of induced system ic hypertension and cushingoid features associated with prolonged administration of this drug, a point that may be taken in consideration in therapeutic uses of Cy A as a potent immunosuppressive agent in transplanted patients

ABSTRACT

60 lymph nodes were collected and diagnosed as pseudolymphoma they were grouped into 4 groups, follicular pattern forming 19 cases, sinous pattern 16 cases, diffuse pattern 15 cases and mixed pattern 11 cases. The histopathology of each variety was described, the follicular variety was the dominating one in children the causes of this pattern and its differentiation from follicular lymphoma was discussed. In the group of sinous pattern, a special attention was paid to malignant histocytosis and the various types of metastatic carcinoma and the differentiation of these two conditions. The causes and differential diagnosis of diffuse and mixed pattern was also discussed

ABSTRACT

Adriamycin [ADR] is an antitumor antibiotic, which is widly used in cancer chemotherapy Previous studies revealed cases of heavy proteinuria following single injection of 5 mg/kg ADR. Marked alteration in sodium and potassium contents were seen in cases of cardiomyopathy induced by chronic intoxication with ADR. We are interested to study the relationship between renal sodium and potassium content and proteinuria, in adriamycin treated rats [1mg/kg b.w. twice a week for 4 and 8 weeks], and the renal function and morphology The results showed impaired renal function as revealed by the significant increase in plasma creatinine and decreased urinary creatinine and creatinie clearance in ADR treated rats. ADR treatment also produced significant decrease in plasma proteins and proteinuria. Sodium content of the kidney was not significantly changed while potassium content was significantly decreased in ADR treated rats. These finding are consistant with the pathological examination which show glomerular sclerosis, cloudy swelling of the proximal convoluted tubules, dilated collecting tubules with protein casts and inflammation of the interstitial tissue. These changes are more marked in 8 weeks ADR treated rats. The study advise interrupted courses of ADR in the long treatment periods, with investigation for the kidney function

ABSTRACT

Primary splenic lymphoma is an uncommon disease, diagnosed pathologically during examination of the spleens removed in the course of treatment of hepatosplenic bilharziasis. 5cases were reported [2.5%]. All of them were non Hodgkin's lymphoma. 4 cases were in the form of well differentiated lymphocytic follicular lymphoma and one case was well differentiated lymphocytic lymphoma of the diffuse variety

ABSTRACT

The prevalence and morphological characteristics of mast cells were studied in experimentally induced acute inflammation. In this model, the inflammatory reaction was maximal at 24 hours as assessed by paw edema-meter and analgesymeter tests. Mast cell population was constant allover the study, although the number varied according to the used stains, being maximum with toluidine blue stain. Maximal degree of mast cell degranulation was established at the peak time of inflammatory reaction, that was associated with marked serum elevation of both histamine and serotonin. Hence these cells are undoubtly considered to be a factory for synthesizing and releasing chemoattractans. The association of these cells with eosinophils was obvious, suggesting simultaneous co-operation of both cells in mediating the inflammatory reaction. Beside the proved histogenous source of mast cells, the haematogenous origin is suggested, a point that needs further work

ABSTRACT

The oral antischistosomal drugs [vansil and biltricid] were investigated experimentally on albino rats with paracetamol induced hepato-renal toxicity. A biochemical and histopathological studies were done on such animals and were compared with normal and paracetamol treated ones. It is found that vansil is less toxic than biltricid as the last one causes more hepatorenal affection together with pulmonary congestion which is lacking in the vansil treated ones. Both drugs produce no testicular changes
