ABSTRACT

Speech therapists' work in educational contexts is essential for students presenting special educational needs. However, little is known about the influence of the amount of time granted by educational policy in speech therapists' professional practice. The present study did the first analysis in Chile of the experience of speech therapists with over 20 years of professional experience regarding the amount of time defined in public policy for speech therapists' practice carried out in educational environments. A qualitative study with a constructionist-narrative focus was done. Five semi-structured interviews were carried out with speech therapists who had over 20 years' professional educational experience via an inductive-type content analysis. Results showed that speech therapists' practice presents challenges arising from administrative, organizational and practical aspects emerging from a public policy which does not clearly define time assignment and its distribution in the functions pertaining to speechtherapists' educational role. The contribution of this pioneering research on the subject is that the speech therapists interviewed suggest changes to the policy implemented on the basis of the adjustments they have made in their professional practices after 20 years of work experience. It is necessary to continue research on the exercise of the role of speech therapists in educational contexts in order to improve professional practice and contribute to the educational policy implemented.

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated the effects of sanitary education administered to elementary and middle school foodservice employees with work experience. The subjects of this study were 360 school foodservice employees in Gyeonggi-do during August, 2010. Sanitary education and awareness were assessed using three major dimensions: food sanitation (six items), personal hygiene (five items), and environmental sanitation (three items). Each dimension was categorized according to several items in the form of a self-evaluated Likert 5 point scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS WIN Version 12.0 package. The results showed that employees who worked for 5~10 years in the foodservice industry scored better in three dimensions before sanitary education compared to other groups. After sanitary education, all employees scored better in food sanitation than before, and employees who worked less than 5 years scored better at personal hygiene dimension than other groups. For environmental sanitation, employees who worked for 5~10 years scored better than other groups. Employees who worked for more than 10 years scored worse before and after sanitary education but scored highest for sanitary awareness. Employees between the ages of 31 and 40 showed significantly different scores before and after sanitary education.

ABSTRACT

There can be a dual approach to every work situation. It is the place where a task is done, one which has been planned previously and which leads the worker to an intense intellectual activity. But it is also a unique moment in life, with its arbitrations. In this case, the task is no longer seen as the first. In fact, it enters the realms of the debate of rules that characterize the worker's activity from the critical perspective, the one of the choices a human being never ceases making. We believe these two perspectives correspond to Pierre Pastré and Yves Schwartz's views, respectively. They complement and enrich the analysis: the intersection between them gives rise, notably, to an unprecedented emphasis on the issue of skills.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the role that work plays in the change of vocational self-concepts of low-class young workers and in performing exploratory tasks according to Donald Super’s theory. The content analysis of interviews conducted with 2 young women and 4 young men between 17 and 20 years old, involved issues like interests, personal characteristics and skills, values and career choices. Vocational tasks were categorized by two specialist and the Kappa index of statistical agreeableness was of 87% (p<0,001). Work experiences were seen to favor changes in self-concept as well as learning attitudes and skills. They contributed modestly, however, towards their vocational development. The importance the young workers attributed to getting and maintaining an occupation help to understand those results.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand the job experiences of the medical aid client managers METHOD: The data were collected through an in-depth interview from twelve medical aid client managers. It was analyzed using the phenomenological method proposed by Colaizzi (1978). Their feedback was categorized into five items such as 'settlement in the unknown place,' 'exhaustion from work,' 'difficulties in dealing with people,' 'achievement of professionalism and accomplishment,' and 'vision on the new aspect.' CONCLUSION: Medical aid client managers played diverse roles and they had a role conflict due to unstable position amid feeling proud with new vision on their roles. The results of this study suggested that systematic development of job training programs and description on the duty are needed. Moreover, appropriate legal basis for the duty of medical aid client managers is to be established. Finally, based on this research, more acknowledgement from the Korean nursing society is needed for the new emerging professional job.
