To study the role of beta-adrenergic system in the regulation of collagen production, this work was carried out as a trial to clarify the effect of acebutolol, beta 1-adrenergic receptor selective blocker possessing partial agonist activity or intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, and atenolol, another beta 1-adrenergic receptor selective blocker lacking such an intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, on the collagen concentration of the lung. Total collagen concentrations were determined in the lungs of rats at the end of continuous daily treatment with the above-mentioned drugs for three, six and nine weeks, respectively. The comparison of their values with that of the control group revealed no statistically significant effect of these drugs on the lung total collagen concentrations. It was concluded that both drugs could be considered as relatively safe, at least from the viewpoint of their effect, on the lung tissue

The present study was carried out on adult male albino rats, experimentally made diabetics, to clarify whether some of the antioxidants exemplified by vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin C, had any effect on the elevated plasma and aortic histamine concentrations suggested to be [at least partially] contributing to the early development of atherosclerotic changes in diabetics. In addition, an investigation of their possible effect on the activities of the aortic enzymes, histidine decarboxylase [HDC] and diamine oxidase [DAO] was included as well. Diabetes was induced in rats using alloxan. The animals [confirmed to become diabetics] were treated with the above mentioned drugs for 2 months. Plasma and aortic tissue histamine concentrations, aortic HDC and DAO enzymes activities were determined. Results of the present study had shown a statistically significant alteration in these parameters in the direction of the values recorded in the non-diabetic normal animals groups

In this study, 240 adult healthy albino rats of both sexes were used. They were classified into control and drug-treated groups. Full thickness excised skin wounds were inflicted on the shaved dorsal aspect of the thoracic wall. The mean healing time, rate of wound contraction, the total and the saline soluble collagen concentrations in the healing wound area were measured. Loratadine did not significantly alter any of the wound healing parameters studied. Cimetidine has caused a statistically significant shortening of the mean healing time, acceleration of wound contraction rate, reduction of the total and increase in the saline soluble collagen concentration in the healing wound area 2 and 3 weeks post-wounding
