RESUMO

In this work the semen of 25 patients with initial motility 60% or less were subjected to Percoll gradient wash for sperm preparation for assisted reproductive technology. We have assessed the three motility parameters [percentage, types, longevity] before and after the wash. The mean sperm number was 50.9 +/- 16.4 million/ml. The initial sperm motility before the wash was ranging from 5% to 60% with a mean 41.12% +/- 16.44%. After percoll gradient wash sperm rnotility has been increased to 61.8 +/- 29.96% [P < 0.0025]. Percoll gradient wash eleminated sperms with motility grade O and grade 1. only sperms with motility grades 2,3 and 4 were present. We recommend the use of Percoll wash for sperm lipreparation especially in patients with asthenospermia whom will be treated by AIH

RESUMO

Forty-eight patients with unexplained infertility were subjected to 3 treatment protocols. They were randomly divided into 3 groups. Group I comprised 13 patients who were treated by induction of superovulation and timed intercourse through 17 treatment cycles. Group II included 16 patients who were treated by induction of superovulation and IUI using husbands washed sperm prepared by the swim-up technique through 19 treatment cycles. Group III. on the other hand, included 19 patients who were similarly treated but with IUI utilizing Percoll gradient technique, through 23 treatment cycles. The clinical pregnancy rates/treated cycles were 5.9% in the first group, 10.5% in the second group and 13% in the third group. Induction of superovulation and IUI with husbands capacitated sperm especially using Percoll gradient technique may he beneficial for treatment of patients with unexplained infertility

RESUMO

Three males and 16 females between the age of 20 and 70 years, who suffered from acne rosacea, were included in this study. Skin and venous blood samples were taken. Serum triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, choline esterase activity and blood sugar level were measured. Histopathology of those patients was studied with ordinary stains trying to find out any correlation between these biochemical parameters and histopathological changes. It was found from the present study that there is hypercholesterolemia in 56% of cases, triglyceridemia in 56%, high HDL-cholesterol in 6% of cases, high choline esterase activity in 37% of cases and hyperglycemia in 56%. Moreover, there is a relation hypercholesterolemia, triglyceridemia, hyperglycemia and telangiectasia, follicular plugging and necrosis. From another aspect, obesity of various degree was present in about 75% of Rosacea patients. From the present work, it is concluded that hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and hyperglycemia play a role in the pathomechanism of rosacea
