RESUMO

The wide excision of intramuscular hemangioma, which affects the quadriceps femoris muscle, usually is followed by inefficient knee extension, and patellar instability. The surgeons with this problem in their minds sub-totally excised it, and this is usually followed by high recurrence rate. Five patients with large symptomatic intramuscular hemangioma affecting the quadriceps femoris muscles, constitute the material of this study from September 1989 to June 2001; in 2 of them the hemagioma were previously incompletely excised and recurred. Three patients were males and two were females. Their ages ranged from 6 to24 with average 12.4 years. The right side was affected in 3 patients, while the left in 2 patients. The vastus medialis was affected in 3 patients and the lateralis in 2 patients. Wide excision with reconstruction of the extensor mechanism was done for every patient. The shortest follow up period was 3 years, and the longest was 15 years. The results obtained were excellent in all patients [100%], no good or poor cases [zero%]

The surgeons with this problem in their minds sub-totally excised it, and this is usually followed by high recurrence rate. RESUMO

Sixty-nine femoral shaft fractures constituted the material of this study. All the cases were treated by static undreamed interlocking nail from February 1996 to September 2002 in Damanhour Teaching Hospital. The study included 54 men [78.3%], and 15 women [2 1.7%] with ratio 3.6, their ages range from 19 to 67 with average 41.5years. The right side was affected in 42 patients [60.9%], while the left in 27 [39.1%]. Road traffic accident was the cause of the fracture in 66 patients, and severe fall in 3. Associated injuries were present in 7 patients. All fractures were fixed by Russell Taylor delta femoral interlocking nails. Union was achieved in all cases by the end of 24 weeks; all patients returned to the prefracture lifestyle

The results obtained in this work were excellent in 66 patients [95.7%], good in 2 patients [2.9%], fair in one patient [1.4%], and Zero poor. The complications met in this series were shattering of the proximal fragment during surgery in 2 cases[2.f]%], limb shortening in 8 cases[ll.6%], angulations at the fracture site in 6 cases[8.7%], mat-rotation in 5 cases[7.2%], break of the distal interlocking screws in 3 cases[4.3%], and deep vein thrombosis in 3 cases. However, none of these complications neither materially affects the results, nor need secondary procedures

RESUMO

Forty cases of recent displaced supracondylar fracture of the humerus in children were treated. twenty eight were boys [70 percent] and 12 [30 percent] were girls, the mean age was 6 years, the youngest 3 years, and the oldest was 12 years. The left side was affected in 26 cases [65 percent], the right in 14 cases [35 percent]. The commonest mechanism of injury was fall on outstretched hand with the elbow in extension in 38 child [95 percent], In 32 child [80 percent] there was ecchymosis around the elbow, in 28 child [70 percent] the ecchymosis was in the medial side, in 3 children [7.5 percent] it was on the lateral side, and posteriorly in one child [2.5 percent]. Under endotracheal anesthesia all cases treated by open reduction and wire fixation through medial approach. These cases were followed up clinically and radiographically for an average period 6 months. The results were excellent in 32 child [80 percent], good in 6 children [15 percent], and fair in 2 children [5 percent]
